Dark Ceremony

Rok Orhan in Camp Mojache wants you to find a Gordunni Orb.
Gordunni Orb

Description

These seem to be plans for some sort of dark ceremony, <name>. From what I can make out, this ritual is conducted by the Gordunni mage-lords.

Find one of these mage-lords, and from him, gather an orb.

The orb of a mage contains great power, and will help us discover more about this ceremony and the magic that the Gordunni wield.

Progress

We must discover more about why the Gordunni are here, <name>.

Completion

This orb will provide us with more information about the Gordunni... which we will then use in planning their downfall, <name>.

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 405 experience (24 30 at max. level)
  • 250 Reputation with Orgrimmar

the mobs share spawn points. So if you don't see many Mage-Lords start killing everything around there.

There were only 3 when i got there then I started killing all the battle masters and then alot of mage-lords started spawning.

Is it bugged in 2.3? I honestly killed 70+ Mage-Lords and not one dropped it. For a 6% drop-rate that's a little ridiculous.

I gave up just now, I wouldn't suggest going out of your way to find it.

Honestly, nothing posted here has shown a bug of any sort exists. Perhaps the earlier posts gave everyone the impression the drop rate is high, but if you look at the Gordunni Orb's drop rate, it is actually only 7% (as I type this, there are 18,799 documented kills on wowhead, so it's probably fairly accurate). You would in fact be quite lucky to receive it on your first or second kill.

It is not improbable for a streak of 35 kills without a drop to occur when the drop rate is only 7%. In fact, it is a 0.93^35 = 0.078868 or approximately 7.89% chance you'll kill 35 mage-lords without a drop. It is actually more probable to have a dry streak of 35 than for the orb to drop on the first kill.

A streak of 70 without a drop is indeed quite unlikely but not impossible. Ignoring the fact it might have been exaggerated, one single story of an improbable 0.62% chance does not indicate a bug exists. At best it suggests one exists, although I highly doubt it. Further testing would need to be done. One would need to repeatedly destroy the orbs with and without /script LeaveParty() and document the corresponding probabilities. I personally neither care enough nor have the patience to test this myself. Plus I completed the quest a few minutes ago.

If you want to know what I think (and I do admit guessing is pointless), Triggerclaw might have left a raid before questing, yet the game still considered his character to be in a raid. Perhaps the GM saw this and gave him the script command to leave the ""ghost raid."" If this were the case, the bug is actually a raid related bug and not quest specific. There is also the distinct possibility the GM was clueless and proposed a placebo.

Obviously I cannot completely rule out the possibility of a bug, but nothing presented here has really suggested it exists.

Seems to be pot luck now. I can't get the orb to drop from any of the mage lords after some 30 or so kills. Looking at the follow up... I figured I spend my time on something else.

Whatever was ""fixed"" wasn't fixed.
I killed every one spawned, got nothing.

Did the 'script' trick, it dropped the next one. Coincidence? For ALL the people posting it? Hm?.....
