<Thorius' face turns white.>

This... this cannot be. My own brother? He set this all up?

<Thorius' face contorts in anger.>

When you talk to the dying archaeologist a dwarf appears and speaks before turnign into Lorthic the Black and activating Obsidion. Thes guys hit very hard and can take a lot of damage. I did manage to take them once at a time, by first accepting the quest fromt eh archaeologist and then as the dwarf is taunting you running toward the ramp that leads upward. I was far enough away that it agro'd just Obsidion after dealing with him I was easily able to take on the dwarf elite.

As of 2.3 this quest is super easy. I remember dying several times on my main trying to do it....

Obsidion now has about 2800 health (down from 16k pre-patch). Lathoric the Black has about the same. Easily soloable by anyone in the appropriate level range.

Be sure to let the quest play out. Do not try to summon them with the altar or you will have to deal with two Lathorics

I already thought the assassination was a bit weird, wasn't to surprised with Dorius raising out of 'death'

If you're a caster or attack with a ranged weapon, I'd strongly recommend backing as far away as possible as soon as Dorius shows up. I had to do this quest twice as a 46 hunter because I aggroed both Lathoric and Obsidion at once. Hit Obsidion first, he doesn't attack as hard. If you can't heal make sure you have pleanty of potions and bandages handy. It becomes quite frustrating if you're not able to heal yourself.

As a side-note, I believe that if you die during this quest you have to abandon it and get it from the Dying Archaeologist again. When I ran back to my corpse after dying during the first attempt, Obsidion was there but Lathoric was nowhere to be found. I killed Obsidion, thinking that Lathoric would respawn afterwards, but he never did. I ended up having to abandon it and go through Dorius's speech all over again before I was able to complete it.

A person had just activated the final part of this quest before I showed up on the scene and died fighting Obsidion, and now I can't interact with the Altar or the Archaeologist. Pretty buggy.

When you accept this quest Dorius appears and does the following

Dorius : Bravo, bravo! Good show. What? You thought I was dead?
Dorius : Fools, I knew that if I played on my brother's feeble emotions, he would send 'rescuers.'
Dorius : How easy it was to manipulate you into recovering the last Suntara stone from those imbeciles of the Twilight Hammer
Dorius : When I stumbled on the Suntara stones at the Grimesilt digsite, the power of Ragnaros surged through my being. It was Ragnaros that gave me a purpose.
Dorius : It was the will of Ragnaros that Obsidion be built. Obsidion will destroy the Blackrock Orcs of Blackrock Spire, uniting us with our brethren in the fiery depths.
Dorius : And, ultimately, it was Ragnaros that named me when I was reborn as an acolyte of fire: Lathoric... Lathoric the Black.
Dorius' laughter trails off
Lathoric the Black : Your task is complete. Prepare to meet your doom.
Lathoric the Black : Obsidion, Rise and Serve your Master!

Then Lathoric and Obsidion both activate and attack you.

Don't know has this happened to anyone else before but:

After turning in the quest, Dorius a.k.a Lathoric the Black appears. BUT...

If you activate the altar after you have turned in the quest, there will come another Lathoric the Black. It seems to be a bit buggish, i had to fight as 49 sub rogue against Obsidion and 2 Lathorics.

Anyone know why is this so?

Hmm.....No comments in 5 months.....And it says at the top of the Wowhead page in red letters, ""This quest was marked obsolete by Blizzard and cannot be obtained or completed.""

Well I just got this quest a few days before posting this. As of now this quest is very much alive, though different in some ways. So how do you do the quest? Previous comments don't really go into detail on that, so I will.

First of all, you have to go to the Slag Pit. The easiest way to do this is to go to the eastern-most tower on the northern side of the Cauldron (the big crack in the ground).

Stand on the left side of this tower and look down. You will see a metal platform. Jump down, and jump down again onto the metal walkway. Behind you is the entrance to the Slag Pit.

Go in there and walk across the metal bridge on the left side of the cave. Continue and go through the opening straight ahead. This will put you on a metal ramp where you can see the altar down below (sparkling) and Obsidion who just fell to the floor.

As you start down the ramp you will see the quest turn-in NPC on your right, who also deals with two other quests you may have. The instructions at the top of this page telling you to turn in the quest at Ironforge are no longer correct.

So you continue down the ramp and over to the altar. You put your cursor on it and the little gear appears. Click and here we go! You will have to fight a 49 elite and at least two other 49's. That's it. Turn in the quest to the NPC on the ramp or continue with the other two quests in that area if you have them.
