Soloed it as a Level 50 Hunter.

First kill the guards of the casters around the pool, can be easily pulled one by one.
The casters (idolaters) are buggy, The thrird counter clockwise is the only one that really attacks you if you get to near. So after you killed their guards just pull them one by one.
The guards that are at the plateau respawn very fast so be carefull.

The altar where you put the artifact once you have obtained it in order to complete the quest is right next to the Dying Archaeologist who gave you the quest in the first place, he is located at 41.2, 25.7 inside the mountain.

Is there any way to reset the idolaters aggroing you after they do it the first time? That buggy one on the south-west corner aggroed when I attacked a mob over there, and now I can't get near the damned thing. I tried to kill off the idolaters one by one, but they're chain-aggroing now.

Soloed as a lvl 51 shadow priest. Killing the elites wasn't that difficult (for my class), but took a decent amount of time and a lot of mana for each one. I had to eat and drink after each pull. I couldn't kill all the mobs around the lava in time, since they respawn very fast. When I was almost about to give up as I ran out of food, I got the mobs around the lava down to one. I mind-soothed this mob and hoped for the best. Luckily I was able loot the artifact without agroing the mob. I wouldn't recommend this to be soloed around this level, unless you know that you can take down the elites quickly and without mistakes.

As of new patch 2.3 assumingly, the mobs aren't elites. Easily solo as lvl47 shadow priest. Grabbed the artifact while levitating.

All good advice here so far, but its all mixed up into bits and confusing pieces, hopefully this clarifies it all into one post.

Exit the cave. Should be easier to head east uphill to leave.

Head back towards Thorium Point, continue past it to about 24, 29. It loooks a bit like a cobblestone path. Follow the torches a bit to your right until you see the lava pool. Clear the mobs. Stand on the Twighlight Artifact in the middle of the lava pool and click it. Lava gives a lot of damage, so be sure to do this.

Return to the cave where you got this quest. I found it easiest to drop down from about 49,44 which lines you up with the cave that easiest to go back to.

The Altar Of Suntara is next to where you got the quest. Click on it. 5,800 XP as of patch 2.3.

Quest continues with Rise, Obsidian, which requires you to stand there for a minute, they spawn right in front of you and that quest is returned to Ironforge for 8,650 XP.

Since I died so many times, I found a good way to get to the artifact. As you go down the hill from thorium point and head right towards the cave. When you see a wagon and a fire beside it, turn right and go up the path.

What a pain this one was! Took forever to find the path up. Clearing the way to get to the artifact wasn't too bad, but getting it wasn't easy. Unless you have precision jump skills, which I don't, its probably easier just to die in the pit (make sure you clear the mob around it), then run back and rez. But, position yourself on the artifact first so when you rez you won't take any hit damage from the lava. Once you have it, grab it and run. the mob I killed was respawning just as I was getting out.

I've found that with the new container opening speeds, I can open the ""artifact"" item between lava ticks, so you can effectively run in and out now.
(You will need at least 1.6k health though, I had 2.3k as a rogue)

Once you clear the mobs, all you need to do is just jump out next to the artifact, wait for the first shock of lava, then open and jump out, i did soloed this quest at lvl 44 shaman, with about 2200 health, its not that difficult, the next part however....not so much.

Just as a heads up. Be careful you don't right-click the altar when you're looting. It will summon both of them again.
