My suggestion, first complete Crystals of Power (https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=4284 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=4284). Then pick up the unlocked quests, Western Crystal Pylon, Northern Pylon, and Eastern Pylon. Now head over to the Northern Pylon @ https://vanillawowdb.com/?object=164955 https://vanillawowdb.com/?object=164955, that same area is where you will find your 10 Pterrodax. Now once you've finished there, head over to the Eastern Pylon @ https://vanillawowdb.com/?object=164957 https://vanillawowdb.com/?object=164957. Continue on towards the Western Pylon @ https://vanillawowdb.com/?object=164956 https://vanillawowdb.com/?object=164956. (Side note: I suggest you cut through The Marshlands with all the Ravasaurs for time, but once you hit the Slithering Scar stick to the wall of Un'goro until you reach the Western Pylon, you'll find a few Frenzied Pterro's along the way.). Much like the Northern Pylon you'll find that the same hill which has the Western Pylon is a wonderful spot to kill most of the 15 Frenzied Pterrodax required by the quest. Their levels range from 31-33 and you don't have to worry about large roaming elites. There you go, knocked out 4 quests :].
Edit: Watch out, Pterrodax fear.

Soloed this quest with some difficulty as a level 51 warrior. The main danger with the Frenzied Pterrodaxes (found mainly to the western side of the volcano, north of Terror Run) is that they tend to be near other mobs that aggro -- other pterrodaxes and diemetradons especially. I died several times from aggro. The diemetradons have a harsh strength/agility debuff, which was extremely bad for me as a warrior. Also be careful to watch for Devilsaurs, since several patrol the area as well.

The regular Pterrodaxes can easily be found in the area near the northern pylon (https://vanillawowdb.com/?object=164955 https://vanillawowdb.com/?object=164955) but there are not enough there to complete the quest. If you kill off every pterrodax there, you will find about 5 or 6 of them. It's helpful to kill half of what you need the first time, then come back on your way back to turn in quests and get the other half.

Lets make this easier:

Pterrodaxes at Northern Pylon: cords 57,14 to where you want to start going up, (its kinda up in the mountains) I only found about 4-5 but best place to farm them, just wait for respwn

Frenzied Pterrodaxes: 38,32 ish, right in that area, just west of that river there. Run around in a big circle and you should find them.

Good to do this quest with Shizzle's Fyler. You can get the sclaes off all these guys you kills AND the Diemetradon (any type of these) that you find around them.

After i killed all pterrordax (6) i waited for respawn at 56,10 (northern pylon) After at least 20 minutes only 1 respawned...
10 minutes passed, still no respawn (writing this while waiting) I even took al small walk away from the spot into the crater (hoping it would help)
15 minutes, still no respawn. Also the crystals and soil i found there does not respawn.

Conclusion: waiting is a waste of time come back later.

Note: i killed all 6 of them in less then 3 minutes.

Confirmed that as of 2.4.2 the respawn rate is still on the lines of 1/2 hour up at the northern pylon.

It didn't used to be like that on the other two times I did this quest on 2 other characters last year.

Far by the poorest quest in Un'goro the respawn rate of pterrordaxes at 56,12 is horrable, i killed the mobs 30min ago, went farming on other quests in un'goro, went back now (30min wait) and yet no respawn..

I suggest you skip this quest if you are in a hurry=)

If you are on a higher population server, I would recommend going to the southern spawning point. The Northern one seems to have an extremely slow respawn rate and it is being camped quite often. This quest took me quite some time to complete because of how sparse the Pterrordax were.

Possibly the best way to this is by first killing the 5 pterrordaxes at Northrern Crystal Pylon and then go completing other quests, as the respawn time seems to be rather long. Good choice would be to go kill Frenzied ones in western parts of Un'Goro, which are much easier to find that the normal pterrordaxes.

Word of warning to prot-paladins: Do NOT try to take multiple pterrordaxes as once to speed up, just stick to killing them one by one, as they spam fear, and you will be much likely fear-spammed even with 2 of them. Frenzied ones act well for AoE-farming.

And that fear is rather annyoing, considering it cancels auto-attack and changes your facing to opposite direction from the Pterrordax.

Edit: Now that only Frenzied Pterrordaxes are needed for the quest, this is a pie.

that's where i found then pter's the regular ones. I've done this quest 3 times on various toons and always the normal ones are the hardest for me to find. hope that helps. Both locations have a decent of about of the pter's incase one or the other has already been farmed out.

The respawns are really really slow,
killing the frenzied ones are easy,
but the normal ones is a very slow process.
theres only like 4 in one spot and repawn slow as.
it takes ages especially if your not the only one killing them :(

Get this quest early and constantly be on the lookout for normal Pterrordax on the Eastern half of UnGoro.

I don't have coordinates but there are TWO places along the southern edge where they spawn. One is just south of Slithering Scar and the other is just a little east of that. In fact, there may be a THIRD place, just west of that but the two times I checked there was nothing there ... which with these horrendous respawn timers, means nothing.

Good luck.

The best way to do it is to run down the southern wall, and go up whenever there is a trail up, there are 3 or 4 sites with 2-7 Pterrordaxes in there per. I ran across, and got my 10 in probably 5-10 minutes

This has got to be one of the worst quests i WoW.. I'd rather run around collecting Basiliskbrains than to do this again. Waiting on my last Pterrordax now. Been waiting for around 30 minutes at the northern site. I'd abandon this quest a long time ago if i knew that the respawnrate were so low. this is one of my last quests in this zone. Found some north and some south, but missing the last. Tip to everyone, if you didn't get all your pterrordax in the first run around the zone, abandon the quest. No point standing like an asshat waiting for the way to long spawntime.

The best place that I found to find the regular Pterrordax's would be south east of the Slithering Scar in the mountains. If you go along the mountain you won't find anything. I don't use any sort of quest helper accept when I absolutely can't find the quest items. When I came on here, none of the advice I saw would help because I can't see coordinates or anything else. Just a plain map with the places on it. So I ran around for about 30 minutes and finally found tons of them.

I found the first ones (Pterrordax's) at 2 locations.

1: At the Northern Pylon (Around 56,12)

2: South east of Fire Plume Ridge. (Around 56|88). Just follow the slithering scar south, then when you hit the cliffs take east until you come to 56|88.

Maybe a little easier to understand than Mackenzee, you decide...

*EDIT*
I ran west of nr 2 (56|88) followed the cliffs until i got to 44|88.
If you got The Western Pylon quest, go to 56|88 (Nr 2) then follow the cliffs to the west.
I did and i ran into a bunch of them.

I just gotta say that i am pretty sure Blizzard did something with this or it's bugged.
All the areas mentioned in comments, shown on wowhead and shown on questhelper, is really not spawning much anymore.
Ive been running around in the northern spawn area in the mountains for about 15 minutes. No Pterrerdax.
South, I found two in the eastern part of the spawn location. No more.
Typing /who Un'Goro displays only me and I rlly doubt there is plenty from the opposite faction doing that quest every time I log on my druid.
Please reply if you figure out anything.

I've never really had much problem with this quest myself. Un'goro is one of my favourite areas and once you get use to it, it's a nice place to quest.

I simply pick up all quests in Un'goro. Head to the area where they spawn to the north (I dont have co-ords sorry but should be somewhere in these posts), and take out the few there. Then carry on around the crater doing the other quests and eventually you'll head to the south to do https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=3883 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=3883.
After doing that you can take the little ramp in the south and clear that area out.

Then continue running around the crater finishing off the the quests you have in it, and then simply alternate between the north and south. The frenzied ones are a little easier (to find anyway) and seem to be in the west of the crater mixed in with the elites. Usually by the time i've gotten around the whole crater i've found enough, and not much waiting around needed, I beleive some of the normal Pterrodax are also inside the crater itself.

Because Pterrordax are so hard to find, I ended up just making a macro /tar Pterrordax and would just click it as I ran around the zone completing other quests. I probably got half of what I needed this way, and the other half I got after cycling through the ""nests"" in the north and south sides of Un'goro.

This quest seems to have changed, I'm assuming as of 3.2.

The regular Pterrordax mobs don't have to be killed anymore, it's just the Frenzied Pterrordax now, and they're abundantly available, especially to the east of Un'Goro, so it's a much easier quest to finish now.

For my fellow altoholics who never read quest text anymore: as of patch 3.2 you only need 10 Frenzied Pterrodaxes to complete this quest. Don't go driving yourself nuts looking for regular ones anymore!
