Guardians of the Altar

Protect Ranshalla while she attempts to reactivate the Altar of Elune. Report your findings to Erelas Ambersky in Rut'theran Village.

Description

At the very top of the ridge lies what I believe to be an altar of the goddess Elune. From what I can tell, we need to light the five torches in each cave, and then we will be able to access the altar directly.

I transcribed some incantations carved into the stone in the ancient ruins of Kel'Theril, which I believe are the secret to unlocking the altar. I'll need your help to light each torch, while I recite the spell.

If we are successful, you'll be able to report our findings to Erelas!

This escort quest ends in a pretty cool lore event concerning the history of the wildkin, check it out.

One tip on completing this quest, let Ranshalla aggro the owlbeasts. She can take a hit or two, and if she isn't the one to aggro them, sometimes she just keeps walking while you're in battle, and can get into trouble by aggroing more of them.

You never have to fight more than one wildkin (level 56-58) at a time, so it's a pretty easy escort quest. It takes about 17 minutes for the whole script, for what it's worth.

At around 56-57, you start running out of quests to do before hitting Outland content; most of them require you to run back and forth across the world a lot.

This one is probably one of the easier quests around that level range; you start at the house near the dock in the village by the Darnassus portal, you go to Winterspring and pick up ten easy-to-get feathers anywhere in the zone, you go back to the village, then back to Winterspring for an escort quest where there are no random spawns and you fight one mob at a time, then go back to the village again, and into Darnassus to finish.

While doing this escort, like an above poster mentioned, do the Enraged Wildkin quest chain that starts in Starfall Village. To the west of this escort quest, there's a camp with two objects to pick up, and you don't have to kill more than two or three oomkins to get them, then you just kill the oomkins that you were going to kill anyway while doing this escort for the amulet.

Total exp:

5650 for the feathers
3000 for finding the escort
4800 for finishing the escort
6000 for finishing the chain

on top of

13k from Enraged Wildkin roughly

fair bit of exp from the oomkins themselves

a somewhat cool cutscene

There is a Horde quest line (https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=4883 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=4883 and https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=4721 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=4721) that requires killing a lot of moonkin, but there's only a hint that the moonkin are guarding something important and that we'll learn more about it later (we never do).

So, for the Hordies, does anyone want to post a spoiler on what happens in this escort quest?

This may take your health down some so when whe is channeling at the torches she will continue to until u right-click it. This is a good time to eat/drink.

If you aggro the wildkins(like any other mob on an escort quest) while standing close to her, she will get in combat as well and run over to beat on it. There's no need to wait for her to attack it, so ranged can just start nuking while making sure to stand next to her.

Make sure that you DO NOT light the torches before she starts channeling. I did this and she just gets glitched and stands there channeliing so you have to restart the quest.

If you are a rogue and you don't want to wait until lvl 57 or 58 just stealth and wait for her to aggro the wildkins. After that try to keep them stunned and also try not getting the aggro on yourself... Did it as a lvl 53 rogue. The quest is really cool i recommend doing it mostly because of the ending.

Running around on my Horde toon when I saw her being escorted by an Ally. Remember if your on a PvE server not to attack Ranshalla as she IS flagged for PvP. Show some curtsey Hordies since being an escort quest it's probably long and I doubt the Ally doing it would want to be doing it again just cos a renegade Horde decided to plow his axe into this lovely's head. There's people behind the toons. ;)

...slice her to ribbons tho if your on a PvP server, and the Ally escorting her. :D

Stumbled upon this chain, and did this part as a 58 balance druid. This is a great little quest; not difficult, enjoyable, and best of all includes some interesting little snippets of lore about the origin of wildkin. I felt like I was pursuing an understanding of my moonkin druid's ancestral past :). There's five caves, you have to right click on a torch in each cave as she's casting, then do the same for the altar at the top. Highly recommended.

Nice lore quest but does anyone else find it odd/funny/disturbing that basically you go through this whole quest and find out that the Wildkin are sacred guardians and you just got done slaughtering all of them?

Of course she moves slow, it's an escort quest.
On another note, if you pick this quest up and lose track of her it doesn't flag as failed but will not work.
You will have to abandon and pick it up again.
