Scarlet Diversions

Proceed to the Scarlet Crusade's base camp between Felstone Field and Dalson's Tears and destroy their command tent.

Place the Scourge banner at the camp, and then return to High Executor Derrington at the Bulwark, Western Plaguelands.
  •
Destroy the command tent and plant the Scourge banner in the camp
Provided Item:
Scourge Banner

Description

Before Andorhal, we must tackle the advancing Scarlet Crusade menace from Hearthglen. They've made camp between Felstone Field and Dalson's Tears, making us risk conflict against both the Scourge and the Crusade at once.

My plan is to play them off of each other by sending you to destroy the command tent they've set up; use some Flame in a Bottle from this box of incendiaries. Once razed, plant this Scourge banner by the tent. With some luck, they'll ignore us and focus on the Scourge for vengeance.

Reward

Also, you get: 80

Completion

Finely executed, <name>. Your attack on the Scarlet Crusade will buy us time. I have sent one of my best scouts out to watch over the camp and make sure that the Crusade forces that come to reinforce the position will take the bait.

With the pressure on us lessened, we should now finally be able to risk a mission into Andorhal itself, and an important one at that. I'd very much like it if you'd perform this one as well, based on your success to date.

This quest is quite irritating, make sure to get the Flame in a Bottle from next to the quest giver after you pick up the quest.

The camp like the quest says is in between Felstone and Dalson's. It contains Hunter and Mage Scarlet Mobs primarily. Pick off the mobs individually as fighting more than one can get bad fast. Keep up a fast pace as they respawn fairly quickly. When all of them are killed burn the tent and place the flag.

Though this quest is very annoying it leads into a chain dealing with the fields in WPL and their cauldrons that give really fast and awesome EXP. Doing the whole chain line is about 70k exp and doable in about an hour. Don't get discouraged by this first quest.

I had real problems with this quest with my 53 warrior. I wasn't able to kill them fast enough before they respawned.

Finally I cleared out enough on the west side so I could get close enough and torch the tent and plant the banner.

If you're a meele class just use your gun or pull by presence, be careful tho since you might get more than you can handle.

oh, and one more thing. You don't have to kill EVERYONE to set the tent on fire. The two first guys I killed spawned after I had killed the rest. They were a bit far away so I just went in and put the tent on fire. Piece of cake.

I was able top just barely complete this quest at level 50 and a couple of points on this that were able to make it possible for me to finish. First off, setting the tent on fire can be done while mobs are beating on you. I had one mob shooting arrows at me and was still able to set fire to the tent. It is treated the same as a spell meter and would just slow down when I got hit. Also, you have to both set the tent on fire and plant the banner, but not at the same time. I burned the ten, was murdered by a medic (oh, the irony) and was able to come back and plant the banner a bit behind the respawned tent and got the completed message. Hope that helps anyone who might be a little too low to be able to sneak in and complete quest.

Overall, a very difficult quest. Perhaps the most difficult in the game (relative to level and Blizzard's expectations).

- Casters' Arcane Missiles are very high damage to take in.
- Hunters have pets to deal with.
- Medics can heal themselves and others.
- Mobs are bunched together, so pulling often results in aggro-ing several and running for your life.
- VERY fast respawn timers.
- Cannot plant flag in combat.

I completed the quest as a well-geared, level 51 pom-pyro mage without dying (although I ran for my life several times). Here's how I did it:

1) Make sure to take the Fire in a Bottle from behind the quest giver before you leave!
2) Use any means necessary to get to the tent and set it ablaze (by right-clicking it). You can do this in combat, and damage only slows the process down (it does not stop you from setting it on fire). I simply pulled a side towards me, casted frost nova, and ran in and set it on fire (while getting hit slightly). Then I ran for my life.
3) Approach the camp from the north, killing as fast as you can. The tent will respawn from being on fire, but don't worry about it. Keep killing until you can stand right next to the dirt patch near the tent without being in combat.
4) Use the tent given to you by the quest giver, and run for your life again.

This quest is NOT hard if you are a ranged class.

Pull from far away.
If you do pull more than one, kill medics first, then invokers, then hunters.
You can stand on the table and burn the tent, you dont have to kill the mobs behing the tent.

Did this without breaking a sweat as a level 52 fire mage.

When I went to do this q another group had just burnt the tent as I arrived. Turns out that as long as you plant the flag while there's no tent, then the q counts as completed.

No fighting of annoying mobs for me :)

Some helpful hints if your paladin, or partying with one. Try to pull one mob at a time, and judge seal of justice to prevent the mob from running and aggroing more enemies. When fighting the mages, I assume our arcane defense is pretty bad, so after judging justice, don't use seal of light to heal yourself, they will out damage it. Instead, spam concentration and use seal of righteousness. Kill before being killed is the main princapal for this quest.

I don't know what you guys are talking about... I pulled the mobs one by one using lightning on my 51 shaman, and the most I ever agroed was 2... Here are some things I did which might help other shamans:
  • After you pull one of the mobs, run back about 10 steps and then start attacking, this way if the mob decides to run you can easily kill it before it grabs more mobs. Also if the target is attacking you from range they will have to run towards you to get within range again, which takes them away from the others.
  • If you have more than one mob on you and one of them is a mage, make sure you earthshock it every time the CD is up, this ensures the mage won't attack you for at least another 2 seconds. (will also make the mage run towards you if its far away)
  • Pulling is all about geometry, I approached this from the south side, and honestly if you just make sure that the mob won't run diagonally into other mobs you should be fine.
  • Don't fight the hunter's pet first, kill the hunter ASAP. Also even if you're a caster, get within melee range of the hunters, they hit much lower with their melee weapons...
  • And if you ever screw up, just earthbind and ghost wolf for your life (and make sure you don't run into the farm next door, it can get ugly).
  • Grounding Totem only takes in 1 of the mage's arcane missile hits, but its still pretty useful so use it ;P
Oh and I'm not sure about this, but the mages seemed to have a bigger agro range than the other mobs... Hope this helped :S

I died twice clearing the camp, and went to light the tent and had no flame in a bottle. DON'T FORGET TO GRAB THE FLAME IN A BOTTLE FROM THE BOX NEXT TO THE QUEST GIVER. Ran out of water the second time and couldn't clear the mobs fast enough without it. Lighting the tent can be done in combat and is an instant cast. Planting the flag is a 2 second cast and is interupted upon entering combat. I had to go back to uc to buy more more water and clear a third time to plant the flag.

First off, I'd like to say that this quest is very challenging and confusing.
GRAB THE FIRE IN A BOTTLE IN THE BOX NEXT TO THE QUEST GIVER
Once you find the camp, which is around 42, 52 for coordinate users.

Pull off the mobs one at a time, it's a lot easier to do it from the north of the camp.

Once all the mobs are out of the way, right click on the tent to burn it down.
After that's out the way, right click on the flag to plant it. Make sure the tent is gone.

Once again, it's a very challenging quest, but the quests that it leads to are very good for the EXP that they deliver.

Yeah a very frustrating mission for my 52 feral druid. As stated in other posts, you can set the tent on fire while getting beaten on but if you try to plant the banner while getting hit, it'll be interupted. I had to clear the 3 mobs on the north side of the tent along with the mob outside the tent before I could plant it without interuption. The mobs are so close together that they often chain aggro with 2-3 at a time. After lots of bearing up and running away, I found I was able to pull them one at a time with star or moon fire if I got lucky but be prepared for 2 or more at a time. Best done with a group or a pet.

If you have two people and are still having trouble... Don't party. Have one run in and grab aggro while you do your thing and then do the same for the other person. Easiest way.

53 Hunter and I still had a problem with it solo. The burning the tent isn't the problem... It's just planting the flag out of combat.

First go around, this quest was very difficult. Tried running through, killing as quickly as possible, but still ended up getting swarmed. My level 51 Hunter went in with a level 51 priest, decent armor, but not the greatest.

Figured out a fantastic way around having to kill all the men that surround the tent:
- Make sure you have both the flame and the flag.
- Must have two players; both must be mounted.
- One person streaks through the camp on their mount, left to right. Passing between the tent and the table seems best, as the casters are to the left and the hunters to the right. Following only a little ways behind, the second person can burn the tent. Back off until all the men return and then go through again, the same way, this time placing the flag.

If you don't get knocked off your mount, you should be able to keep a tight train and not pull aggro to the person burning and flagging. A PRIEST was able to act as diversion for me to flag and burn, so this should work for any combination of classes.

After working with this method, we were able to complete this quest in about 30 minutes. It only took this long because there is a short learning curve.

Right next to quest giver there is a box. You must open it in order to take https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=12814 Flame in a Bottle. The camp is at https://vanillawowdb.com/?maps=28:400510 40:51 in https://vanillawowdb.com/?zone=28 Western Plaguelands. It is not too difficult. Just kill some of the mobs to get to the tent, than use Flame in a Bottle and after that use https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=12807 Scourge Banner. after that all you can go back to quest giver https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=10837 (Hight Executor Derrington).

I completed this as a 53 Demon Lock.

Its rough because all the enemies are tightly packed together. But they can be pulled away and separated if you work carefully. However you my die once or twice in the process.

For locks, put your pet on passive. Since there are a lot of casters, use the felhunter.

Make sure you have the Fire in the Bottle and the flag.

I approached from behind the tent. Pulled the invoker there, let him chase me then set the felhunter on him. After finishing him, I took down one of the hunters. Then worked my way around the left side of the tent, the side with all the Medics. The Medics can be pulled one by one. But watch out, at the end they run in fear and pull other medics. After clearing a small patch, I set the felhunter on the invoker in front of the tent. After getting rid of that enemy, I set the tent on fire and planted the flag.

Don't loot the bodies, these enemies rez fast. Be careful with the use of fear. You may send an enemy straight into the middle of the camp. Keep Curse of Tongue up on the casters at all times. It will slow them down a bit.

If you are an alchemist, Lifeblood is extremely valuable. You can cast it and completely heal during a fight.

If you have a high level character on the same server, log the lower level character off near the camp, log on your high level character and clear the camp. Although the mobs respawn quite fast, you'll have enough time to relog on your lower level character and complete the quest. This is an unusually tough quest for the level it's available, as mobs are quite packed, many are ranged and you must be out of combat to complete the quest.
