A Strange Red Key

Search through Jaedenar to discover what the Blood Red Key is used for.
Blood Red Key
Provided Item:
Blood Red Key

Description

The small red key seems to be made of some kind of bone material. It is heavy in your hand, but appears very fragile. Why would a member of the Shadow Council have such a thing? Perhaps there is something within Jaedenar that this strange key unlocks.

Progress

I begin to wonder if I'll ever escape this cage.

It's only a matter of time before they sacrifice me to whatever demons they worship. The monsters!

Completion

The key, you've found it! Please, give it to me and I can finally escape!

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 565 experience (33 90 at max. level)

This key opens the cage holding the captive Night Elf. Be warned, the Night Elf wants to recover his gear and heads deeper into the complex. Do not solo unless over leveled.

As always, right-clicking on the key starts the quest. My key dropped inside Shadow Hold while killing mobs to do ""Dousing the Flames of Protection.""

Arko'narin can be found inside Shadow Hold. See Toabo's post for the location.

Once inside the Shadow Hold, the location of Arko'narin shows up as yellow dot on the mini-map. So, finding her is not a problem.
Completing this quest leads to Rescue From Jaedenar.

Watch out the key will go INTO your keyring bag. I thought I picked it up but i could not find it in my bags so I spent the next hour trying to find another. It goes into your Key ring!

You can't fail it.. to do this quest you only have to go talk to her.. And if you were referring to the follow-up escort quest.. Just cancel it in your quest log and redo it. (Same for all escort quests.)

spirit spawned at the end is no longer elite mob (presumably as of 2.3.0)

As always, Blizzard hooks us up with some Pop-Culture goodies.

When she finally gets her equipment, she will spin around and say, ""All I need now is a golden lasso."" Both of which are an obvious reference to Wonder Woman.

This quest and its followups do count for the Loremaster of Kalimdor achievement.

Agreed about the level suggestion. I tried it with my 49 druid and did pretty well until the elf got her gear. At that point, three level 55 fel giants spawn. They hit hard, have about 3400 hp, and stun about every 10 seconds. Very tough. Don't try to solo this one unless you're about level 55 at least.

I soloed this as a 57 healer druid. The hardest part was the three Jaedenar Legionnaires who spawned after she got her sword. I gathered aggro from all three who kept stunning me. My instant-heals and occasional Regrowth kept me alive, and my Moonfires (insta-nukes), Thorns, and she finished them off (since my dps sucks). Then without pausing to loot, I popped a Morning Glory mana-refreshing drink, and regained enough mana to catch up with her and save her from the next encounter.

After defeating the mob just outside the tunnel, she exclaims how nice it is to breath fresh air, and dances a cute little dance.

The Spirit of Trey Lightforge appears, calls her 'BETRAYER' (be-Trey-er?), and attacks.

After Trey Lightforge, she complained that it was all her fault, and ran off past some Jaedenar outside who ignored her. I tried to follow, but was mobbed and killed. Fortunately, as it turned out, the quest was marked Complete, even though I didn't get any reassuring message at the time.

Jeez, whats the drop rate on the key? Been down here for half and hour collecting like 30 corrupt sould shards but not a single key (also checked key ring just in case)

Drop rate is low took me 30-45mins of grinding.
Also, people note that if someone else starts the quest before you get to the cage you will have to wait 5-10mins for the NPC to respawn.

If you're above 53-ish it should be no problem. I did it as a 55 enhance shammy, nothing difficult. Only the 3 mobs at the gear collection part made me pop a potion but otherwise cake

Here is the way that it works.

You are killing monsters in the cave where the big blue guys hang out (the northern one). Any one of the mobs will drop the key. But you have to pay attention when you get it because it doesn't go into a bag, but a keyring.

But there is one more step...

Open you key ring, and one of the keys will have an ""!"" over it. You right-click on it to allow it to work.

You can then free the NPC from the cage, and not before.
