Corruption

Find the Black Guard Swordsmith in Stratholme and destroy him. Recover the Insignia of the Black Guard and return to Seril Scourgebane.
Insignia of the Black Guard

Description

If I am short with you, it is for a reason. The plans for the creation of the great blade, Corruption, have been stolen by the Black Guard: Elite skeletal units of Baron Rivendare.

Yes, Baron Rivendare of Stratholme.

The Black Guard swordsmith now guards those plans with his... undeath.

Slay him and return proof of this deed and I shall grant you the knowledge required to create a blazing rapier!

In order to complete the swordsmithing quest you have to open the blacksmithing plans by the first Ziggurat on the undead side of Stratholme, just after you fight the abominations. The Baroness is at the top of the stairs. The plans are up against the wall directly to the right of the Ziggurat's stairs. When you click on them an elite named mob, the Black Guard Swordsmith, spawns that you have to kill and loot an item from, the Insignia of the Black Guard. Return that item to Seril Scourgebane in Everlook, Winterspring and you're done.

If you're only doing this to become a Swordsmith, you can just talk to the NPC and he will teach you Master Swordsmithing without doing a quest. This is new in The Burning Crusade, as far as I know.

I learned swordsmithing in Winterspring without doing this quest, but I want the plan for the Blazing Rapier, then I have to do this quest, right?

I'm a hammersmith and was able to go back today and pick this up for a rogue I was leveling up. I'm guessing any weaponsmith, at least, can pick up this quest. Possibly any blacksmith.

I've all but given up on this quest. It wouldn't be so bad but the mobs there are just ridiculously close and they have roaming patrols everywhere near the end of this quest. I've tried twice with a druid and 3 times with a warrior, but always failed. Then I decided to read the comments here and I see that you dont even need to do it now if you only want swordsmith (which is me). Urgh. 3P1C F41L

Just in case anybody was wondering, you need to have at least Neutral reputation with Everlook before the quest becomes available.

These three quests:

https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=5305 Sweet Serenity
https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=5306 Snakestone of the Shadow Huntress
https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=5307 Corruption

used to be required to learn hammersmithing, axesmithing, and swordsmithing respectively. While they are no longer required, blacksmiths of skill leve 250 or greater can still pick them up and complete them if they choose.
