Mok'thardin's Enchantment

Bring an Aged Gorilla Sinew to Far Seer Mok'thardin in Grom'gol.
Aged Gorilla Sinew

Description

What I need from you now will be very difficult to obtain.

To hold all these feathers, claws and the pristine fang in place I require a magical tether. Only an aged gorilla sinew will work.

You will only be able to find one on an Elder Mistvale Gorilla. They are known to forage to the east of Booty Bay.

The sinew must be perfect. It might take quite a few kills for you to find exactly what I need but it will be well worth the hunt.

Progress

Has fortune been on your side, <name>? Were you able to obtain an aged gorilla sinew?

Completion

A most ideal sinew, <name>. Your efforts will pay off soon.

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 245 experience (14 70 at max. level)
  • 250 Reputation with Orgrimmar

Once again, another quest with a wild drop rate. The gorillas are found east off the road coming from Booty Bay. From the tunnel leading to BB, it's maybe a 30 second run, if that. You can also find another half dozen gorillas west of the road. Good luck on this one...the place is usually camped. I have seen this quest take an hour before the sinew drops, so be prepared.

While you're there, you can triple up on quests. The gorillas drop the giblets needed to finish the quest ""Scaring Shaky"" in Booty Bay, and they also drop Gorilla Fangs, ten of which you'll need to start ""Stranglethorn Fever"". The fangs also sell well to vendors if you finish that quest (or have no interest).

It took me about 45 minutes to make it drop. If you are on a PVP server, avoid fighting at the road around 30,68. You will likely get ganked. Luckily the corpse run won't take long.

39 Pieces of Heavy Leather
27 Gorilla Fangs
17 Coarse Gorilla Hair
3 Chipped Gorilla Teeth
2 Heavy Hide
4 Large Fangs
4 Medium Leather and 15 Thick Leather later....

Took about an hour and a half to get.
Got about two bars of xp at lvl 45.

I found it in the location of 34,65 near the mountain. The Gorilla ran up to me out of the blue actually. Try for any Gorilla's behind the trees near the mountain around this area.

Wish you the best of luck!

A lot of anecdotal evidence here for a higher drop-rate based on the location of where you killed the gorillas. So I guess I'll throw mine in as well, although against the case.

I just completed this quest for the second time between two of my characters. Out of those two characters I simply randomly killed the gorillas without a preference to close or far away. Out of those two times the first drop was from a kill that was one of the farthest from BB, and the second drop on my other character was from a kill around the middle of where the spawn points are. Also, taking into account others who have reported their drops with coordinates that were given at seemingly random locations and not ""nearer"" to BB.. I would say there is probably no correlation between the location you kill an Elder Mistvale Gorilla and when the quest item will drop.

When things like this occur people tend to report the hits and ignore the misses. Another thing is people will kill just the gorillas near BB, so when it does finally drop it seems like it is confirming the superstition. Anyway, please don't take this argument as an insult or anything. I know we're all pattern-seeking humans and we'll look for patterns even when there aren't any (I've been guilty of this myself!).

90 kills. 90! (assuming MobHealth is tallying things correctly).

Mine came from one of the gorillas well up the road from Booty Bay, certainly not one of the closer ones. I think this really is just random with an incredibly and annoyingly low drop rate. But it was good grinding if you are into that sort of thing. And at level 41 my skinning skill is now up to 284/300, thanks in part to this quest.

90 apes killed and skinned. I'm expecting Jane Goodall to be knocking my door down anytime now.

I'm pretty sure it's perfectly random.

Got mine after about 20 kills, which means I was medium lucky.
People with 100+ kills are just unlucky as hell.

It may be painful to kill these damn dirty apes hour after hour with no drop, but just remember - every one you kill that doesn't drop it gets you no closer to the one that does.

Over 4 bars exp (level 39) six stacks of heavy leather.
One stack of thick leather (20) ....
I quit skinning when I ran out of room
At this point I'm not going to finish this quest. I'll leave it in my quest bag until I leave BB.
However, right now, my luck could not get much worse. :(

122 kills in and it has finally dropped, at least the quest gives you an OVERWHELMING feel of relief after the item has dropped.. nearly makes all of that pointless grinding seem worthwhile :)

Hey, this might be just me - but I couldn't get it off the gorillas ""just outside"" of booty bay, you need to go out just a little bit more and you will see a zone name change - (I forget what its called but its not ""written"" on the map) - go up towards where the shaman npc guy for the other gorilla quest is, and you'll see a little valley opening back up towards the road - the second I went past there the area-name changed and I got it first drop - this happens sometimes, where you need to be in a different ""zone name"" to trigger drops. Give it a try if you are having a hard time with this quest!

Can i flag this as one of the most annoying quests ever? A terrible droprate in my case... I have killed the whole population of elder mistvale gorillas twice...and no drop. No skinning either.
I give up...

I went around killing those gorillas for about an hour and still no drop.... I eventually got so frustrated that I just left, haven't gone back yet. So hopefully it'll drop again soon.

But damn, I wanted to nuke those gorillas after throwing every conceivable cuss word at them, hahaha.

Edit: So I went back a couple days later, took me 6 kills to get the sinew.

Spent about a good oh....HOUR killing gorillas and getting pwned by alliance. Such a wonderful quest, and not to mention the armor repair bill afterward. Found mine when I said enough and was leaving the area. Damn ape right where you run in...got 9 bars with 38 lock and lvl 39 once turned in. If I got 1 silver for every swear word I said after about the 20th one I could prolly buy a lvl 60 mount!

Seriously, I get some very variant results with this quest.

Did it on my rogue about 3 months ago, got it on my 8th kill, this time around on my paladin it took me roughly 67 kills to get.

It took me about 30 minutes when I did it. I got something like 15 gorilla hairs, 5 teeth, 1 large fang. I started reading the different posts, figuring it would take a while. I went up to the den and ran back down and attacked the gorilla I found at the bottom of the slope and boom! there was the sinew....it was easy in my opinion. I was a lvl 43 at this point (barely into 43) and got almost 3 bars of xp for the kills of this quest.

Good Luck!

This quest took around 2 hours of constant killing of gorilla's. Finally found one that dropped the item at 31,67. Got around 5 bars of xp at level 41. Tried to take on 3-4 gorillas at a time (Bld El. Pally).

Another horrible drop rate quest (And I thought https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=552 Helcular's Revenge was bad!). After about 40+ kills I finally got it. If you have patience and like grinding then this is the quest for you. Otherwise move on.

I may have skinned over 100 Heavy Leather from grinding for this quest, simply because an alliance party was killing all of the gorillas and not skinning any of them. This may have added a considerable amount of time onto what I spent getting the sinew, and I think my eventual kill count was around 30. As for pattern seeking, I used to do it while grinding for gear on Vagrant Story, so I know not to go down that road again, it only leads to the dark side.

Droprate 'might' have inproved looking at the stories here. I killed the entire valley once, and it dropped for me on the last mob. Maybe luck, or they increased the drop chance.
