Description

Tauren take pride as the protector of these lands. Undoubtedly you can guess why I am alarmed with the number of harpies that dwell here in Stonetalon.

The Bloodfuries are the source of the increasing number of harpies in Kalimdor; they encroach upon all likes of life preventing the innocent from leaving their boundaries.

I need you to cull the harpies, <name>!

Reward

Also, you get: 20

Progress

Do not be weary of Charred Vale; many evil creatures reside in those hills. Stay strong <name>, and you shall prevail over this threat to our people. Go now and strike hard - our children shall never know of the evil of what was.

Completion

This is most excellent news! Tell me again how you cast fear into the cold hearts of those vile harpies. The Bloodfuries have been dealt a serious blow!

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 210 experience (12 60 at max. level)
  • 250 Reputation with Thunder Bluff

In Stonetalon is a place called the Charred Vale (coords: 35, 58).

You can find the harpies in there ^_^

You can also get there from a shortcut path at Sun Rock Retreat (coords: 44, 64).

Roguefeathers and slayers are together in the same camps in the south western half of charred vale. The harpies and ambushers are in the north western portion of charred vale. The ambushers seem to be 1 or 2 to a camp shared with 2 or 3 windcallers.

Charred Vale Entrance is at 43,42 west of Mirkfallon Lake

I did this as a level 24 mage.

They can all be found in the charred vale (32, 68)

The Harpies and Ambusher's are around level 23-24 (lots around 30, 60)

The Rougefeather and Slayers (28, 68 and 36, 68) vary between level 24 through to 27 be cautious as they all hang around in packs, and you may end up pulling 5 at once...

Can be grouped with the two quests mentioned above.

You can type '/target Bloodfury whatever' in the middle of Charred Vale to find em'!
Should make it a bit easier when you are trying to finish the quest.
On my warlock I also used pet attack then pet follow to see which direction they were in.

unless you want to die countless times you're going to have to do a bit of farming. the slayers and roguefeathers are grouped EXTREMELY tightly together, and theres always a storm witch or 2 willing to make your life hell. find a nice good clear area (or clear it out yourself beforehand) and do your best to pull enemies to that area becaue if you stand and fight you will be surrounded by 5 enemies screaming ""WTF"" at your computer. lvl 27 paladin took me 20 minutes.

The easiest way I've found to complete this quest is to hunt down all of the red harpies first, since this guarantees you are killing the right one's (they constitute three of the four you need). Usually, I can finish killing enough of the three red harpies by simply making a single circuit around the valley. Afterwards I go looking for the Ambusher's (usually in the northern end of the valley).

If you are a rouge then there is a rather easy (though slightly time consuming) way to get this done. If you go down the path from Sun Rock there are lots of Rougefeathers/Slayers to kill. Stealth to find them, unstealth when you aren't in aggro range of any, and then use Throw to lure one of them away from the crowd and kill them right near the path. If you ever aggro more then one on accident just sprint up the path and the guards will scare them away (saved my butt so many times). A few of them are really easy and if you don't mind waiting for them to respawn then you can get it done without dying too much.

The other two were slightly more annoying to kill. But I found this great spot between a mound and a circle ring of trees at 31.6, 65. Stand there stealthed and then around the other side of the trees will be Harpies and the occasional Ambusher. Unstealth, throw, and get one of them to come to you. That spot between the mound/trees is rarely crossed by anything so it's easy to kill them one by one. This way you aren't killing a bunch of extra Windcallers that cover that area as well.

Hate, hate, HATE the Charred Vale. I realize there are ridiculous amounts of XP associated with these quests, but there is also a ridiculous amount of aggro and close-knit mobs. If you really want to take your chances, go ahead, but I'd rather do other quests instead. I like keeping the small amount of sanity I've got left, thank you.

Of course, I might come back with a higher level character just to take my anger out on these guys. Did I mention that I hate the Charred Vale...?

Not sure where people got their coordinates for the path.

It is not hidden, there is a sign, and it's at precisely 44.7, 61.4

This quest really drives me mad. Only 1 Slayer seems to spawn at a time. Had to wait 15 mins to complete this quest. this has been the same for 3 toons over 2 years. :(

This is probably one of the most frustrating quests i've had the displeasure to try. So many patroling mobs sweeping the area everywhere and on top of that, more than half of the harpies youll meet will NOT be one of the 4 you have to kill. Add up to that the fact that there is TWO color skins for 7-8 types or harpies and you get a very frustrating experience. Oh and in about 45mins of trying to complete the quest, I didn't encounter a single Slayer. Avoid at all costs if you're trying to level fast.

level 26 warlock... this quest shouldn't be hard, but it is. vigilance is required! there are so many types of harpy and towards the end it becomes a pain to find the ones you want without attracting much unwanted attention (there are chimeras, flame spirits, basilisks, treants and stone spirits in the area ranging to about lvl 28, so if you're focusing on this quest it gets annoying). It should be done easily, yet ive died once and fled twice using sacrifice/hearthstone, as well as once having managed to fend of 5 of them including 2 storm witches, which are probably the worst. This is because they fly so close to each other, and have seemingly random flight paths! very frustrating, but if you can keep the fights isolated/ limited to 2-3 mobs at a time, it should be ok.
