Also, don't forget that it is doable with other priests in the party. For example, one priest would be moving to heal the peasants as they walk their way towards the safe zone while the other # of priests will stand at whatever location they please to heal the incoming peasants that walk to the exit. The priest that is only able to move is the one who started the quest.

The spawn timer was reduced by a significant amount, presumably to around 10 minutes now. I'm not sure on this, though.

You NEED the EoD, it was changed a patch or two ago. While I can't find it mentioned specifically but was probably stealth nerfed in 1.11.2 when they fixed another issues with Spectral Essence: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/patchnotes/patch1p11.html http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/patchnotes/patch1p11.html as I couldn't see them with my Spectral Essence equipped.

The quest is fairly easy to do. I recommend failing it once so you get a feel for what's going on. It's basically a more complicated version of the triage quest you did to get your bandaging up.

There are several methods that are available online for how to complete this quest, but let me say what worked for me:
1) 60 Feral Druid in bear form at the cave entrance who was kind enough to go /afk there while he made dinner
2) In order: Full rank renew on purples, abolish greens, ~half rank renew on injured.
3) If your bear form druid friend is taking significant damage, through him a heal or full rank renew.

When the skeletons attack you, there are significantly fewer arrows flying through the air. By leaving the bear at the entryway, he will pick up all of the skeletons and keep them for quite a while making keeping up the peasants significantly easier.

Using this method, I blew 1 mana potion and the Mar'li's Eye. I was in all 5-man blues, except for 1 piece of prophecy and my wonderful green gloves (and Mar'li's Eye... and the friendly ring of the Bronze Dragonflight)

Few things that helped me complete the quest on my 1st try.

1) Get tinytip: an addon that allows you to see the health bars when you scroll your mouse over the peasants. For some reason you can'y use V, shift-V, or control-V to see the health bars anymore. I've read Dev's posts that say the will address it in an upcoming patch, but they haven't yet.
2) Oil of Immolation: there's no cooldown & with these the Skellies go down quick.
3) Holy Nova rank 3: in case you run out of Oil of Im, but it drains much needed mana. Mana conservation was the toughest part for me
4) Renew Rank 5, Flash heal Rank 4: You don't need full ranks for peasants they don't have much health
5) Well placed PychScream: If you get overwhelmed by Skellies & you need mana for peasant heals
6) Wand: Takes down single skellies in 1 hit usually
7) Respawn of quest NPC, if you fail, is much quicker now : used to be over an hour. Now it's no more than 30mins.
8) Net videos of the quest: found lots of great ones
9) Cure 1st Heal 2nd: Make sure you cure the peasants 1st, then heal. The diseases they get will wipe them out quick.
10) Peasants will die: Don't worry if you loose 1 or 2 in each group.
11) Have a couple mana potions & use the 1st one as soon as your mana is @ 50%: That way your cooldown will be up when/if you run out of mana

Okay, first, I used only four spells. Holy Nova Rank 6 for the skellies, Flash Heal Rank 4, and Renew Ranks 9 and 6.

The Peasants: You cannot use the ""V"" key to see their health bars. I tried this every which way. Instead, I use the AF Tool Tip mod. This brings the tooltip (with hp) to your mouse pointer, so you can scan across the wave of peasants and see their health without moving your eyes to the lower right corner. The gauntlet of skeletal archers tend to focus on 1-3 targets, and you can see their arrows sticking out so that helps you decide who to heal as well. Begin healing with Renew unless the peasant is very close to death. Use Renew 9 if they're getting beat up a lot/diseased, especially if they are members of a ""fresh"" wave. Use Rank 6 renew for ""stale"" peasants who are diseased or hurt. I used Flash Heal only if they were very low (followed up with a Renew 9) or if they were being fired out by lots of archers and diseased, etc. I think I used disease cure only twice out of nervousness, so I'm sure it's not very necessary. Use your best judgement once you get a feel for the event.

The skeletons: I used Crystal Charge, made from the red and yellow power crystals in Un'Goro crater. I didn't use Oil of Immolation because I wasn't sure if they were on the same cooldown as Major Mana Potions, so I didn't risk it. When they are grouped up, a crystal charge or holy nova is great. When my cooldown for the Crystal Charge (1 min) was still going down, I was forced to use Holy Nova. I used Rank 6, but Rank 5 MIGHT work. Wanding is key. It took usually 1, sometimes 2 hits from my Bonecreeper Stylus (which is why I say that Holy Nova Rank 5 just might do enough damage). This works especially great if you can see a lone skelly running down to you and the overall health of the peasant wave is good and you can just wand him as he comes. Resists stink, and sometimes you have to let a skelly wail on you while you throw some renews around.

Extras: I used 3-4 Major Mana Potions, I honestly can't remember. Use them early, so the cooldown ticks while you fight. I also used Lesser Mana Oil (8mp5) on my weapon. I'm sure some Nightfin Soup (8mp5) would be a big help as well. I didn't use Demonic or Dark Runes, but I'm sure those would help too.

Good luck!

How to do it after patch 3.0 at level 60:

Patch 3.0 removed downranking of spells, so instructions that tell you to use lower ranks of spells are now pointless. Good thing that came with 3.0 is achievements, because of them guilds are running pre-tbc raids again for fun, and I just used that opportunity to get Eye of Divinity for my freshly leveled level 60 priest.

Reagents needed: none. This quest is extremely easy, no need for any potions and extra buffs.

Gear needed: anything will do, but I suggest to stack as much spirit as you can. I did it in level 57-60 tbc greens ""of the owl"" and ""of the prophet"".

Spec needed: I did it as discipline with few points in holy without any problems. Key talent is 3/3 Meditation to regenerate as much mana as possible, Improved Renew might also help.

Now, the quest. Go to EPL, find NPC that gives quest. Press ""Shift-V"" on your keyboard, so you could see friendly health bars, it will help you a lot.

During the quest you will get few waves of friendly peasants, all are level 51-53, being shooted at by undead archers, also sometimes groups of undead spawn and run to melee peasants. Peasants also have diseases that does damage over time. You need to escort peasants from cave entrance to their despawn point, which is a little bit behind quest giver. When wave of peasants is close to despawn point, next wave of peasants will spawn.

Things to do:
- Whenever a new wave spawns, run towards the cave. Quickly heal up peasants that are on low health and put Renew on them.
- Abolish diseases only from peasants that are getting attacked. Don't bother with diseases on other peasants, its a waste of time and mana as diseases don't do much damage.
- If a peasant is being attacked by one archer, put Renew on it.
- If a peasant is on low health, use Flash Heal to heal it, don't bother with longer heals as Flash Heal is more than enough to heal a peasant to 100%.
- When a wave of melee undead spawns, stand close to peasants and do a Holy Nova once. That's enough to kill undead.
- When peasants has passed quest giver npc, quickly heal them up and put Renew on those who are getting attacked, then forget about them and run back towards the cave to deal with next wave.
- Don't worry about saving mana, as every time a wave despawns you get lots of mana back.

I did this today, failed on the first time though ...

I had bear helping, encountered 4 skeletons in total.
Since Blizzard removed downranking and made buffing stupid, renew isnt very useful here.
I used only flash heal and cure disease. Heal all who go ~50% health and cure all as possible.
I based my gear on manaregen, in total I had ~700 spellpower and 210 mp5 in combat.

Edit: I didnt use any addons here, just wanked shift+v to see green clouds and their healthbars.
Only sad thing about their hpbars was that they bounced alot.

It's a very bad idea to bring friends to help on this quest. I tried it solo a couple times and kept going oom. When my friends showed up to help, ""The Cleaner"" spawned: 666k health, was hitting me for about 3-4k each swing. Ended up dying instead of simply failing the quest.

You will constantly see peasants with half health walking along, but resist the urge to heal them unless you see those bars dropping. If they arent being hit, they won't die and do not need to be healed. Don't waste your mana. Only heal critically injured mobs.

It's okay to let a couple die, you shouldn't exceed more than about 5 fatalities with the above strategy.

As a side note, for disc priests, flash heal is far cheaper than renew, especially if you have the glyph of flash heal. HOWEVER, on the two peasants who are surrounded by the purple glow at the beginning of each new wave.. renew them. They're gonna take damage the whole time and you'll end up having to flash heal them more than once. Just renew.

Took me two tries, I failed on the first one due to going OOM because I didn't know what to expect.

By the way, ""https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=14503 The Cleaner"" showed up when I had finished the quest and stood on the path ominously. I didn't know what it was, so I shielded and attempted to holy fire it. Big mistake. He rushed me (I'm a level 76 disc priest) and then immediately tore through my Power Word: Shield in a single hit, but most of that hit was absorbed. I then immediately shielded again and ran. He sprinted to me again and slammed through the shield in another shot, and I managed to bail off the side of the cliff, barely escaping with my life.

Moral of the story: Do not ^&*! with https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=14503 The Cleaner.

We decided to do a MC for fun, and the eye dropped, naturally we had to get our lovely priest her Benediction.

Went to strath, talked to the questgiver and started. The first try was a pretty horribly failure with party members summoning the Cleaner and general chaos'n confusion. I asked them all to leave me be for a moment as I waited for the NPC to de-spawn.

About the fights.

Several villagers will emerge from the cave entrance, basically you wanna keep them alive.
I only used: Flash heal (This was my main resource of keeping those scrubs alive), Renew (Just to keep villagers topped off as a new group spawned), Abolish disease and Holy nova for those pesky skellies.

Yes, the villagers are under constant attack from skeleton bow-men/women, so you wanna keep them topped off with flash heals, it can be hard to see who needs healing, so I shift+V'ed periodically to keep better track of it. You don't wanna let Shift+v nametags up constantly though, as it makes it very hard to spot who needs Abolish disease, so I would tab it on and off about every 2 seconds to abolish those who needed it. Don't be cheap with those abolish diseases, its only 400 mana, and if you don't dispell it, the dot will finish them off in a short amount of time.

So yea, you keep up the villagers with flash heals and abolish, follow them a little while as they will move out of range if you remain near the cave. Some skeletons will spawn, attacking the villagers, if its 1-2 skellies, wand them, if not just 1 holy nova will finish them off.

Mana WAS an issue, I did oneshot it after that first try, but only with 1000 mana left when it said ""completed"". I have a mix of T8 and T9 gear, disc specced. I imagine this fight is alot easier as shadow, dispersion would have made it easy to just spam those flash heals, the villagers don't need any real healing (Max hp of 3k). Bring some Mp5 food, maybe a flask, and just try it a few times to learn the battle.

Hope this helps any future priests.
(PS, level 80 ofcourse)
(This SHOULD be an achievment! My hands are still trembling from the stress of keeping those worthless villagers from meeting their early demise)

Completed this yesterday on my priest. He was wearing all heirloom items, some outland quest blues with the best enchants I could get.

One-shotted it as Shadow, used one mana pot and dispersed twice. However I feel I was very close to failing, in all fairness. Probably had RNG in my favour. As mentioned use renew on low hp peasents, and cure the diseased ones. I used holy nova when skeletons spawned, that seemed to kill them in one hit.

Very quickly, for the quest to protect the NPC, it goes much faster if you have the talent https://vanillawowdb.com/?spell=63543 Empowered Renew. While it is true if you cast https://vanillawowdb.com/?spell=48068 Renew tick DOES scale down due to their level, the empowered renew DOES NOT SCALE DOWN, think of it as a instant heal for them.

Easy as anything in 3.3.2 as discipline. Just bubble every mob and cleanse diseases. After the first set of bubbles wear off, apply a new set then run to the front for the next wave. Glyph of PW:S fully healed the mobs for me

Then again, I was running with 3.3k spell power, a regen flask and 29k mana, but didn't pot or hymn. Holy novaed skelles. You can toss fiend out an aggressive and it works fine to get like 6-10k back.

I tried this renewing, flash healing and dispelling/curing multiple times. Then I realized I was a disc priest and my best spell is shielding them!

Its instant, costs just a little more mana then flash heal and if glyphed for it will heal when you cast as well as making it great if they are just about to die. And of course it prevents them from taking more damage for almost the entire length of their walk. You can still dispell/cure or throw a renew when needed but shielding was by far the easiest way I found. Did run out of mana just as I completed the quest, but a random mob from below hit me in the middle of Hymn of Hope otherwise I would have been fine.

Some mobs do come up from the side if you dont kill them prior, but they seem to evade as soon as they really get close to me so just ignored them. Skeles that spawn you can easily round up and kill with a Holy Nova blast.

Alright, after dying two times because some damn mobs had spawned beneath the worlmap and continued attacking me from where I couldn't reach them, I organized myself an 80 Paladin who consecrated them away (it worked through the floor, nothing else did).

That Paladin also was the perfect trick to get the quest done.

I'm a lvl 60 holy Priest, with some dungeon blues (everything from Vanilla, it's a classic char) and a hand full of epics from MC and BWL. So mana was my main problem (healing AND killing the skeletons).

So here's what I dwowhead:1,id:
I used ""Elixir of Draenic Wisdom"" (Guardian) and ""Elixir of Healing Power"" (Battle) plus some random +spirit bufffood and Blessing of Wisdom from a Paladin. This way I had a regen of roughly 300.

Then I grouped up with my 80 Paladin lad and he placed himself next to the cave, with Retribution Aura activated.

This way the event was actually quite easy.
I had no problem healing the ghosts (used only renew and cure), although I had to use a mana potion. Maybe it would have worked without one, but I wanted to be safe. Now, everytime skeletons spawned, they hit mit once, got damage through the pally aura thus aggro from my 80 pal and attacked him, dying from the aura.

(I was, however, attacked once by five mobs who came out of the floor - must have been a bunch that had spawned there below the map. Thankfully, the paladin could kill them without causing the Cleaner to spawn, I guess, because it weren't mobs from the event)

Not having to deal with the skeles, I could cancentrate on healing and tada, quest done.
Good luck to everyone out there doing this quest! Despite dying because of buggs, I actually quite enjoyed it ^_^

Lvl 65 Human Priest
Holy Crap. I tried this quest probably 10 times with the advice here (renew, abolish, flash heal) and I always got close, but never could finish before 15 died. So I browsed the disc priest tree and decided to simply pop PW: Shield on everyone and Holy Nova the skeletons when they pop up. And every time you get close to the end of the run, she'll restore a good chunk of your mana. Its a good alternative that works if you're having trouble with the process you see through the comments here.

Completed this using only renews and holy novas. Main spec is shadow so I have mostly no-spirit gear but put on as much as I could find (+397) and switched to disc spec for the meditation. I felt like I had to constantly hit renew to keep guys alive so I wouldn't have wanted to lose time on dispersion.

Once renew was ticking it easily healed through diseases, so I wouldn't bother with curing.

Ran out of mana near the end and if I needed another wave I probably would've lost. With more spirit I think I would've been find. I also could've been more conservative with holy nova and made sure to get at least 3 adds with it every time (wand/melee anything less than that).

Didn't occur to me that shields would work on these guys, but that seems like a good option too if they're valid targets - instant protection and lasts for most of their escape.
