Master Elemental Shaper Krixix does not need to be Mind Controlled anymore, Infact, all you have to do is tank him away from the 3 additional adds in the room and then kill Master Elemental Shaper Krixix. He will then drop the smelting Pattern which can only be learnt by Miners, So make sure you take a miner if you are going there!

in patch 4.3.0 its still working. but i think droprates are less than 4% of both parts for this quest to get it.

As of patch 3.1.1 this quest chain can be started by any class.
Since solo farming Molten Core every week is pretty easy these days, you may get one of the BoP bindings. If you are going to be going to MC anyway, you might as well try for the other one and complete a legendary sword.

The quest is quite long, First you must get 1 of the 2 (left or right) half of the Bindings of The Windseeker from Molten Core (Garr or Baron Geddon)
Once you have them you take the Binding to the High Lord in Silithus who gives you the quest.
The requirements to the quest that leads up to this is (Thunderaan The Windseeker):
10 Elementium bars (made of 10 elementium Ore, 100 arcanite bars, 10 fiery cores, 30 Elemental Flux)
1 Essence of the Firelord (Quest drop from Ragnaros when you kill him)
1 Binding of the Windseeker (Left)
1 Binding of the Windseeker (right)
Once you have all of the materials you take them back to the High lord who uses all the items to complete the Vessel of Rebirth.
IIRC you use the binding to Free Prince Thunderaan (Boss class mob) and you fight him (probably requiring a 40 man raid):

To make the elementium bars you need 10 elementium Ores which are drops in Blackwing Lair. I know 1 mob that drops them there and that is the ""Master Elemental Shaper Krixix"":

Krixix also drops the plans to smelt Elementium

So thats pretty much all I know about it at this point. I've gotten all of the materials for the Elementium Bars except for the Elementium Ore, and I have the other 3 Legendary pieces for the quest.
