Centipaar Insect Parts (5)

Description

All right now, these reports about the bugs... what we know is that they are draining the water pools that used to be where the Noxious Lair is. What we DON'T know is, well, everything else.

Let's figure out who our enemy is first! I want you to head into the Noxious Lair and get some parts off of those critters. Get five from the Centipaar there and bring them to Alchemist Pestlezugg for him to dink with. With him on the case, we'll figure out what they are!

Reward

Also, you get: 50

Progress

You're Junior Surveyor <name>, yes? Quickly now, there is a dire situation at hand! Do you have the insect parts that Fizzledowser said you would?!

Completion

Good work - I'll start my analysis on these now! I can tell you right from the start though... these are nothing like any insect form I have ever seen. It's almost as if these bugs are being controlled by an outside force or something.

You need to go talk to Fizzledowser right away; apparently there is an emergency that he needs your help with on the double! I'm not sure, but I think it involves more of the bugs in the Tanaris desert!

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 315 experience (18 90 at max. level)
  • 150 Reputation with Gadgetzan

to find these Bugs, you go south of the pond where you finished the first part of the quest to the Noxious Lair (36,40 to 32,51 ish)

any of these bugs drops the carapace but it is not 100% drop chance.
i don't exactly remember, but i think the bugs lvls are 45 to 50.

Incredibly low drop-rate..
Not worth the time/effort if you have other quests available.

This quest can be done at the Noxious Lair (37,36). The drop rate isn't that bad, about 1 in 2, I got all 5 Centipaar Insect Parts in 12 kills.

You definitely should watch out for those Silithid Swarms especially if you have no AOE capabilities. I tend to keep away from the Centipaars with a Swarm near them.

I did this quest with my lvl 45 warrior last night - it is doable but you have to be careful. The bugs are lvl 47-50 and although the drop rate is high, it is not 100%. I was getting one drop out of three kills. I was killing lvl 47-48 bugs.

A word of caution:

The lvl 50 bug has a VERY small minion. You can mistake it for one of the critters Blizzard put in the game - it is not. Around the lvl 50 bug, look to the ground. It is very small. You might not even be able to click on it that easily, but it is a minion. Their walkpaths are not that similar either. Those two bugs might be far apart from each other. Do not aggro it since it will bring the big one running.

yeah you guys are either really lucky or im really unlucky. im don it right now as a 44 mage and ive killed over 50 of these bugs and i have 3 of the insect parts. for those without coords the noxious lair is the very west part of tanaris in the middle.

I suggest not doing AOE spells too much while you're in there, lest you like getting attacked by a ton of the little bug dudes' friends.

Looking at the drop rate, it looks like the kinds of bugs that fly and look like wasps have 50%, the crawling bugs have much lower rates. So look for flying bugs.

The Noxious Lair is located around 37,39. The quest items drop from all of the insects around the Noxious lair, and have a drop rate of around 20%. This quest is even doable around level 46-47, if you know what to do.

You'll find a variety of mobs around there, including:
- Centipaar Swarmer
- Centipaar Wasp
- Centipaar Sandreaver
- Centipaar Worker
- Centipaar Stinger

The Sandreaver and the Wasp are just easy fights, without any adds.
However, the Swarmer calls in ads, which also damage you, and if you're a caster will prevent you from casting. If you can, lay down an AOE every 5 or 10 seconds to wipe all these little mobs. They have around 5 HP, and should be oneshotted with one AOE hit. I'm a hunter myself, and I used Volley to get rid of all the insects in one shot. Also Multi Shot works. For Paladins, try to use Consecration, Mages use Arcane Explosion. Any class that can't do AOE shouldn't try to engage these mobs around level 45-47, but wait untill level 49-50 or so.

However, they can do the other mobs found around the area.
Done this quest with a warlock, hunter, paladin, mage and a rogue myself now, and I've only had trouble with the rogue around level 46, for the other classes it was easy.

Centipaar Wasp 47 - 48 49% Drop rate
Centipaar Stinger 48 - 49 49% Drop rate
Centipaar Swarmer 49 - 50 47% Drop rate
Centipaar Sandreaver 49 - 50 38% Drop rate
Centipaar Worker 48 - 49 37 % Drop rate
Centipaar Tunneler 47 - 48 26% Drop rate

Obviously you want to aim for the Wasps since their level is lower and they have the greatest drop rate. As stated before it is advisable to solo this to get the best drop rate
However a little XP never hurt anyone.

Althoght this quest is soloable even at around lv47, the quest level is wrong. Doubtlessly it should be a level 50 quest. You have to kill many lv47-50 bugs, depends on your luck. And these bugs are tough, have many adds, wide-area patrols, long-term poison, and they chase you a very long way (guess becuase of their wide range patrol). You may want to skip this quest because it is not worth doing and you may have to spend a long time killing if you have bad luck. And the drops are poor. I have killed more than 100 of them with multiple alts but didn't get a single uncommon drop, nor any valuable item.

""This quest is really screwy. Some people are reporting amazing drop rates while others are giving up after 2 hours of solid grinding. Blizzard needs to get their crap together. This quest isn't worth it.""

Well that was my first impression of this quest. After sticking with it for about 10 more minutes, I had all the insect parts I needed. I read one post that he had a better drop rate off of the wasps. I can confirm that. I killed about 10 of the other types of bugs in that area and got nothing useful. I killed about 10 of the wasps and had all 5 pieces for the quest. So my suggestion is hunt the wasps down and finish this quest in about 15 minutes.

Good way for shamans to finish this quest is using magma totem when fighting scarabs. when fighting the wasps just make sure to have remove poison on.

Doing this quest for the first time as a hunter, I got run over like I was being hut by a track when I overagro'd a swarmer from my pet. Took me out in 2-3 seconds, didn't realise they spawned those irritating little buggers. Thunderclapping them, and whirlwind if you are a warrior works wonders, and thorns aura as a druid. What worked best for me as a hunter was laying an explosive trap before a pull, then letting my pet tank him in the trap, soon as the little buggers spawn, they die instantly. Took me 2 corps runs to figure that out, but after that, 5 minutes, and I was done.

Just a little advice to those that report abysmal droprates. Try killing the insects at the NOXIOUS LAIR (western Tanaris) instead of the GAPING CHASM (southeastern Tanaris).

Drop rates will go up considerably when you are at the place you are supposed to be and not half an area away. I just cleared half of Gaping Chasm and wondered why i get no drops at all. When i changed to Noxious Lair (where the quest clearly indicates one should do it) the 5 parts dropped in about 5 minutes.

Did on a lvl 45 warlock, best bet put VW on passive and run around the edges till you find anything not a swarmer, dot it and run to make sure you don't aggro anything else then put your dude on defensive and kill, rinse and repeat.

ROFLMAO!

Lvl: 44
Class: Druid
Spec: Feral Combat
Difficulty: EASY
Lag: 2k+ latency but 25 fps
time: 15-20 minutes
tips: If you stay on the outer edge you will rarely come across a 50 - and the Little 'critter bugs' have 1 hp.

So as you can see - its kinda easy - and i had alot of lag spikes during it.
