Description

Would you like a taste of Chen's namesake? Ahh, the stormstout is a mighty brew. Chen taught the recipe to my mentor, and my mentor passed it on to me. I'll need you to get me a few things, but I can tell you this: the kick is worth it.

Bring me 5 savannah lion tusks from any savannah lion, 5 plainstrider kidneys from any plainstrider, and 1 thunder lizard horn from any species of thunder lizard. That should do the trick nicely.

You can find these ingredients throughout the Barrens.

Progress

How's the search going?

Completion

Haha... I never thought I'd make more of this stuff ever again.

You've stirred in me a great sense of nostalgia, <name>. Kind of reminds me of the last time I blacked out from too much trogg ale. Thank you. The memories warm my stomach.

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 135 experience (8 10 at max. level)
  • 350 Reputation with Orgrimmar

Note, that this quest is repeatable. Since patch 2.0, Blizzard also gives 250 reputation even to 60s doing lowbie quests, so this is a great way to get the Exalted before the Expansion hits.

Dont know if it is repeatable still, but the drops are fairly decent....the thunder lizard horn you can get near Camp Taurajo, all other drops come from various types of plainstriders and lions........good to do in conjunction with other quests cause you can do it as you work on others.

There are level 18 and 19 thunder lizards (called Stormsnouts) at 47, 47 and that general area.

Chen Stormstout was the pandaren brewmaster who helped Rexxar on his quest in the bonus campaign in Warcraft 3: The frozen Throne.

The Tusks can be found from any animal that has ""Savahnna"" in it's name. I found a nice amount of these just a bit north off Crossroads.
The Plainstrider's Kidney is found from the Plainstriders. Just travel around the Crossroads to find these.
For the Thunder Lizard, you may find a few south of Camp Taurajo. If you are close to the Wailing Caverns, there is a few Thunder Lizards there too.

FYI...it's not a Stormsnout. You have to look a bit east of Camp T (around 48,57) and look for a 19-21 creature that's has ""thunder"" in it's name.

Note Thunder Lizards DO NOT drop these horns (the ones in Durotar). I spent alot of time killing those for no reason.

Savannah Lion Tusks are dropped most by Savannah Highmanes, around the Crossroads.
Plainstrider Kidneys are dropped most by Fleeting Plainstriders, also around the Crossroads.
The horn -IS- dropped by the Stormsnout, just at a low rate. The thunderhead droprate is even lower though.

I was able to pick up the Savannah Lion Tusks from Savannah Prowlers. They are at about 58.69, 35.46. Decent drop rate too! Took about 7 kills.

This part of the quest , and the first part, count for Loremaster of Kalimdor. The follow-up to this one does not.

I received this quest today and completed all but the last item. I broke off to play with friends in the Lunar Festival. In Brill I discovered both the quest and the items collected were missing. The explanation from the GM was the quest is obsolete and everything associated had been wiped out when I zoned.

Before Cata, there was a series of three quests, all with the same name, but with different quest numbers:

https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=819"">(Quest #819) (#819)
https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=821"">(Quest #821) (#821) (The quest covered by this page.)
https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=822"">(Quest #822) (#822)

The first one was triggered by the player finding a container (?object=3238"">(Object #3238)), looting it for the quest item (https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=4926"">(Item #4926)), and getting the quest from that. Before Cata, the empty kegs were scattered throughout the Barrens (see the https://vanillawowdb.com/?object=3238 old page for the container), but they were removed from the game, making it impossible to pick up the quest. The second quest isn't offered, either. Unfortunately, the third is still offered in Ratchet (N. Barrens), but other changes made it impossible to complete. (The Stormhides (https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=3238 old page) (needed for the lightning glands) and the https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=4897"">(Item #4897)s were removed from the game.) The quest is automatically abandoned silently if you enter Southern Barrens. (That's where you would have to go for everything but the https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=4896"">(Item #4896).) Also, the Kodo liver is deleted from your inventory if you already collected one. Nothing changes if you enter zones other than S. Barrens, though.

Some lore: Chen, who lost the keg, is ?npc=36912"">(NPC #36912) (http://www.wowpedia.org/Chen_Stormstout Wowpedia page), the brewmaster pandaren in the Mists cinematic. He was established as a character in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, but hadn't actually appeared in WoW until MoP.
