Description

Good stuff, that stormstout, huh?

I have another recipe that I learned from Chen. Would you be interested? It won't take long to make, and it might be useful if you plan on adventuring some more.

Bring me 5 lightning glands from any stormhide, 1 thunderhawk saliva gland from greater thunderhawks, and a kodo liver from any of the Barrens' kodos.

Like I said, this stuff has kick; it's the trogg ale that I mentioned to you before.

You can do this quest over again. Lightning Gland & Thunderhawk Saliva Gland are easily found down
South around Gann on the Gold Road. Kodo Liver was easier found up North of The Berrens around
the 1st Samophlange quest area.

The problem people are having with the lightning gland I reckon is that it drops from the stormHIDES way south and not the stormSNOUTS or stormHEADS. The stormhides begin to appear at 46,72 along with a greater thuinderhawk or two. All are about lvl 22-23 and the Kodos are here too, but in a group. If you cant take them together its no problem, they can be found wandering anywhere in the barrens, particularly around the oases.

Hope I've been helpful

Best to do this quest between
https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=5052 Blood Shards of Agamaggan, https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=879 Betrayal from Within (1), https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=906 Betrayal from Within (2)
and https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=843 Gann's Reclamation, https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=846 Revenge of Gann (1) ,https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=849 Revenge of Gann (2).

There's little to no reason to do this quest once you've reach Revered with Orgrimmar because by time you should be around lvl 30+ and the quests at that level have much better rewards.

It's a reputation-farming quest, a low level alternative to farming cloth.

Since none have made any note list for this quest i'll just go ahead and do it.
I've been doing this quest for some time now(thunderbluff rep - 18.75 per turnin -.-) and have figured out some of the points bellow:

- The Lightening Gland can ONLY be obtained from the Stormhides

- The best place to do this quest is around the entrance to Dustwallow from Barrens.

- The kodo ""family"" walking around in the southern barrens is very hard to find if you are actually looking for them. So if you see them while grinding the other quest items, drop whatever you're doing and kill the kodos.

And now for the most important one if you are going to farm this quest...

- The Stormhides SHARE SPAWN with the hyenas. I am not yet sure if the Greater thunderhawks also share the same spawn.
This means that if you go down there and only kill the mobs you need for the quest, you'll find the place overrun by hyenas within a few completes.

As an example:
>you kill Stormhide, making the spawn point he was using available.
>Now that the spawnpoint is ""open"" there is a chance that ANY of the mobs sharing that spawn can spawn there next. IE an hyena.
>You do not need hyenas so you don't kill them
>This in turn, ends with an overflow of hyenas, and close to none stormhides.

I have previously said that many drop quests in the game are Blizzards way of forcing people to grind, thus giving them more xp and loot than a kill quest would - as such, often call them 'forced grinds' as opposed to drop quests.

This quest (Chen's Empty Keg) may just be the epitome of the forced grind.

There's no problem with the Thunderhawk Saliva Gland. There are quite a few Greater Cloudscrapers (or whatever they're called) in the Southern Barrens, and the drop rate isn't too bad. The drop rate on the Kodo Liver isn't bad, though Kodo are sparse - that said, you only need one drop.

The first annoying part of the Lightning Glands is that the drop rate from the Stormhides is about 20%. So, you're going to have to kill about 25 of them - and that's if you have average luck. Bad luck, and you could be looking at twice as much. However, the *really* grinding part of this quest is that, as Nixxen mentioned, the Wind Serpents, Hyenas and Stormhides all share spawn points. As far as I can tell, the hyenas are the most likely to spawn at any given point, followed closely by the Stormhides, whilst the Cloudscrapers are a bit rarer than the other two. So you have two options - either run around the Southern Barrens for a while, hoping that you'll just happen to find 25 odd that other people have left alone. Or farm all the mobs in one particular area, and hope that you get a few Stormhide respawns.

To put into context just how much grinding is involved in the second method - I ended up getting 12k exp from the grinding at lv 24. Given I was getting a kill about every 20 seconds (I'd lower it to 30 due to travel time between my start and finish points), that's just about 100 kills and about 50 minutes work. Considering that the quest only rewards 1k, you might not think it's worth it - but I *did* get a lot of good loot out of it, so I shant be poor for a while.

In short, this really is a grind quest - probably not the best quest for raw quest xp, but definitely good for a balance of xp and monetary rewards.

You can take the group of Kodos if you happen to come across them, just start killing one off at a time from the front,if you hit the wooly Kodo they will all come after you,so it's best to leave him till last.

Be careful when attacking a herd of these kodos, I've been the victim of a group that included the level 27 Elite, Brontus. It may be his presence, but I've found that attacking any one kodo in the group aggros the entire herd. I ended up getting my liver from Lakota'Mani instead.

This quest is a god send as it saved me a long grind or a lot of cash to buy runecloth. Nice reputation with Orgrimmar. For anyone else trying to get their rep up with the major cities check this out - http://www.wowwiki.com/Repeatable_reputation_quest http://www.wowwiki.com/Repeatable_reputation_quest

A little tip for speeding it up. Set your hearthstone to Ratchet and fly to Brackenwall Village and mount upto the Barrens and go farm the gland and saliva in south Barrens. You will find lots of Stormhides on the left close to the mountains as you enter the Barrens and if you cross the path you will find the Thunderhawks. When your fly/hearth back to Ratchet head back to Barrens and take a left and follow the cliffs down and you will find the kodo's there, once you get the Kodo Liver run back to Ratchet to hand in. Just keep repeating. I had to do it nearly 300 times

Good luck :)

To all the people wondering why you don't get XP for turning it in....you should have read the quest details. It tells you at the bottom what rewards you get for doing the quest....it doesn't say XP so you don't get any. All you get is 5 Trogg Ale. And of course the Rep points, but no XP. Just wanted to clarify.

Yup can confirm today (04/03/11) that I ticketed this quest and also The Harvester quest, which drops from the rare silithid spawn, and was told to abandon both quests as they would be impossible to finish. Wasn't told if they were going to correct it however but probably going to happen eventually.

Before Cata, there was a series of three quests, all with the same name, but with different quest numbers:

https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=819"">(Quest #819) (#819)
https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=821"">(Quest #821) (#821)
https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=822"">(Quest #822) (#822) (The quest on this page.)

The first one was triggered by the player finding a container (?object=3238"">(Object #3238)), looting it for the quest item (https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=4926"">(Item #4926)), and getting the quest from that. Before Cata, the empty kegs were scattered throughout the Barrens (see the https://vanillawowdb.com/?object=3238 old page for the container), but they were removed from the game, making it impossible to pick up the quest. The second quest isn't offered, either. Unfortunately, the third is still offered in Ratchet (N. Barrens), but other changes made it impossible to complete. (The Stormhides (https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=3238 old page) (needed for the lightning glands) and the https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=4897"" class=""qundefined icontiny"" style=""background-image: url(images/icons/tiny/inv_misc_organ_06.gif)"">Thunderhawk Saliva Glands were removed from the game.) The quest is automatically abandoned silently if you enter Southern Barrens. (That's where you would have to go for everything but the https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=4896"" class=""qundefined icontiny"" style=""background-image: url(images/icons/tiny/inv_misc_organ_04.gif)"">Kodo Liver.) Also, the Kodo liver is deleted from your inventory if you already collected one. Nothing changes if you enter zones other than S. Barrens, though.

Some lore: Chen, who lost the keg, is ?npc=36912"">(NPC #36912) (http://www.wowpedia.org/Chen_Stormstout Wowpedia page), the brewmaster pandaren in the Mists cinematic. He was established as a character in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, but hadn't actually appeared in WoW until MoP.
