Chimaerok Tenderloin (20)

Description

Legend has it that the chimaerok of the Isle of Dread in Feralas have the most succulent and tender vittles in existence! Now these chimaerok also have a daddy who, with proper preparation, may or may not look like a 500 pound chicken.

Head to the Isle of Dread and kill Lord Lakmaeran and bring me his fresh carcass. That should satisfy the gnome. To satisfy me, you'll need to get your hands on some chimaerok tenderloin.

Do this and you'll have your 500 pound chicken and a little something extra.

Progress

Mmmmm... Chimaerok...

Completion

Look at the marbleization on those tenderloins! Fantastic!

Now about that chicken... Hrm, let me see. I'm going to need a few minutes to devise the recipe.

As frost mage with 9.9k hp you can kill every Chimaerok mob except the boss (320k hp). You will be unable to kill the Chimaerok Devour mob *unless* you steal the 2 minutes buff from Lord Lakmaeran. That buff is 18 stacks of 25% chance 496 dmg on hit, which means any mob hitting you will suffer a medium of 1500dmg.

uhm... let's see...

Drop rate for https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=21024 Chimaerok Tenderloin sucks.
Spell reflect instant cast sucks.
Mob respawn rate sucks.

Hey, at least Lakmaeran was solo'ed as a Boomkin in full T7.

Otherwise, cleaned all chimaeras on the island for 6 meats only. Still waiting for respawn.

No problem as a hunter in t7 for the boss guy for anyone looking for solo confirmation. Most of his attacks missed my pet and a mend pet was more than enough to keep my pet at full HP. His lightning he casted at me missed 90% of the time.

At lvl 80 this quest is pretty easy to solo - there is one problem though:

One full clear of the area resulted in 8 meat and took about 15 min

The Chimaera has a respawn timer of 30 minutes - meaning you farm 15 min - and you sit bored waiting 15 min twice to get all the needed meat. But - at least the reward is a shiny epic cooking recipie :)

fantastically irritatingly long respawn timer on these guys, though with 10/20 tenderloins, averaging a 36% drop rate, not too bad.

Elite one is fairly easy to solo as a rogue (much easier for any other class), meat drop rate sucks, as well as respawn rate.

Cleaned all island for 5 meats, 20 mins ago, and they didn't respawn yet, annoying.

Edit: I killed the entire island again, and my progress is 9/20, let's wait another 20 minutes for respawn, thats gonna take looong...

Lord Lakmaeran is still difficult as a 80 mage, i tried several talent builds, finally settle with 0/30/41, with ffb as my main nuke. The key is have mirrior image at start pull aggro and nuke it, then survive another 3 min for mirrior image cd and kill it. I used glyph of evocation, 2 water elements, 2 ice blocks, blink away when it get close, finally killed it barely.

Another thing to remember, don' t run too far, or the boss resets, and the other post mention run around tree don't work, boss leeches.

Chimaerok Tenderloin - I killed 54 of the Chimeras to get my 20. Or 2 passes through the mobs. This ends up with a 37% drop rate. So put away a bit of time for this one. It's not horrible, but not easy either. However, killing the mobs wasn't a problem at all.

Lord Lakmaeran - As an 80 Naxx geared Enhancement Shaman, this guy was a piece of cake. Purge off his Lightning Shield, dps as usual, use Shamanistic rage if you get low on mana and continue purging the shield when he re-casts it on himself. I never went below half health, so you shouldn't have any problems if you are even just heroic dungeon geared.

Soloed Lord Lak as a 0/58/13 FFB mage. The trick was waiting til *my* health was about 50% then blowing my mirror images so I could bandage. I blowed all other cooldowns at the start, made sure scorch and living bomb were always up of course, and killed him with ease. (I also have the best pieces of gear in the game right now from Naxx25, Maly25, and Sarth3D)

Soloed Lord Lakmaeran as a level 80 prot paladin. 542 def, non-heroic blues and purples. The fight was pretty long due to my lack of DPS -- about 6-7 minutes (I was able to use Divine Plea aroun 5-6 times) -- but I ended with more than 80% health and mana. Just keep up your Holy Shield and Consecrate and relax, using whatever spells on cooldown you can to help chip away at his health. :)

ETA: I don't know why people comment down others that say what level and class they soloed something as. Personally I find it extraordinarily helpful to see the experiences of others similar to me. It can really make or break a decision to solo a quest or an instance.

ETA2: While waiting for the rest of the chimera to respawn, I decided to kill him a second time to 1) kill time and 2) hope that he dropped a tenderloin. Well not only did he drop one tenderloin, he dropped two more! That was quite the welcome surprise.

Just soloed Lord Lakmaeran with an 80 feral druid (cat dps spec). I didn't use any tanking gear, just Naxx25 dps gear, and killed him with extreme ease. Never went below 95% health in bear form, so I switched to cat form to speed things up and killed him before I needed to use frenzied regeneration. Anyone wearing plate will not have any difficulty killing him.

As for the Tenderloins, I got 1 after clearing the entire island....just 1...

Just soloed this as a level 80 warlock. To all who had *drastically* low drop rates, the way to get around the 'kill everything on island/wait fifteen minutes' problem is to invite someone to a group and convert it to a raid. I got two (2) drops the first time around the island, started up a raid group and started around for the second time. As soon as I was in a raid group almost every kill dropped one. I hope that helps everyone on this part of the Scepter of the Shifting Sands quest line.

It's fair to say that the respawn timer is reasonable.

One can only imagine the horror going to this place as a low level raid (which it is intended for), and a respawn timer of, say 2-3 minutes.. ^^

I concur. As a cloth wearer and (arcane) mage, this boss is slightly tricky even with the 4pc t10 bonus. I recommend a food buff to create an additional cushion of safety.

1) Eat the buff food, preferably a +crit/+stam, but anything that adds +stam is desirable.
a) Use Molten Armor for additional DPS. Mirror is negligible for resistance and you don't need the extra mana regen it provides. Ice doesn't add much more armor, and like I mentioned further down in this post, the chimaera is immune to snare effects.
b) Dampen Magic is your friend.
2) Check to make certain all your CDs are ready for use. (""Duh"" step, I know.)
3) Position yourself at max range for your basic attack spell.
4) Let your Mirror Images loose and then any additional CD buffs you may have. It helps to have a nuke macro. (If you have Abracadaver, don't summon your Cadaver until ~10s in. This allows it to have more health before Lakmaeran finishes off the MIs and begins attacking the cadaver - since it won't have been getting dinged by the lightning AoE as much.)
5) Spellsteal the lightning shield as soon and as often as it reappears on the target. It uses a GCD but keeps your cannon fodder pets alive that much longer. Don't bother trying to Counterspell (or other silence mechanic) - he is immune. He is also immune to any snare mechanics.
6) Once all your pets are down - this occurred at ~60k for me - get your mana shield up. Keep spellstealing the lightning shield as it reappears, which fortunately appears to have a long CD for the monster npc.
7) Start Blinking every time the CD is up once Lakmaeran goes into frenzy and your pets are dead. Watch out for your mana shield and your mana pool. Use your mana gem if needed; save the use of a pot for health points if the situation becomes dire.
8) Tada! You are now the proud possessor of a fairly large carcass. If you were lucky, the corpse also contained one or more Chimaerok Tenderloins.

I hope this was useful in at least a small part. If you want to see the gear I did this in (current as of Friday, June 11, 2010), http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Malfurion&n=Aliok visit my armory page on the Malfurion realm.

Lord respawns very quickly but the mobs do not,he droped 4 tenderlions for me but only on the first kill, i killed him second time and he didnt drop anything.

Try dropping his quest item and killing him again if you dont have the time to wait for respawns as you will probably have to wait to get all 20.

If you start killing chimeroks and dont get any drops for ten kills you might start wondering if you are doing it wrong... but the droprate is just that bad. You will probably have to clear the island a couple of times to get your 20 quest items.

Solo'd Lord Lakmaren as an Assassination rogue in mostly heroic ICC25 gear, standard PvE rotation. Waiting for respawns of the Chimera's was much worse. I even hopped on my Paladin parked in Orgrimmar to check the AH (since at some point my AH addon saw them listed for rougly 2g 50s each), but no luck.

Began my Scepter questline today, a while into 4.0.1, and it seems like the droprate is fairly decent.

Got 15/20 from one clear including 3 from Lakmaeren.

Still waiting to see if Blizz ninja-upped the spawnrate at the moment, but I began at the south-end and when I returned from clearing the isle(took about 5-10 mins from first kill) 2 mobs had already spawned again, but I can't really say yet if I was just lucky.

This is completely trivial as an 80 shadow priest in 4.0.1. I have only justice point healing gear (i251 healing set reforged for mastery for disc and the 264 off-set pieces) and Lakmaeran wasn't even able to break my PW:S.

I did summon my shadowfiend and fade him onto it right when he enraged, but I'd be surprised if I would've gotten below 90% even without that.

Very easy to do at level 80 holy priest. I didn't have any problems with the mobs at all. The boss never even got through my Power Word:Shield. Unfortunately, as many have mentioned, the drop rate is not nearly what it says here on Wowhead. A full clear of the island gave me only eight of the twenty, and the respawn rate is very, very slow. I killed them all, and had to stand around for a good twenty minutes or so waiting for respawns. Takes some time, but it is extremely easy to accomplish.
Watch out for the spell reflect, especially if you are lower level. A caster could easily kill themselves if they are not paying attention.

Two full runs netted me... Nineteen. Yes, 19 out of 20. So I had to wait all over again for another respawn to get the last one. Yay.
