The most important thing is to keep him alive until the end of the fight. If you kill the monster but Bluewall dies, you'll have to re-start the quest.

Seems that this quest is not required in order to do get the follow-up (https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=9419 Scouring the Desert), and becomes unavailable if you've completed that one.
