Scouring the Desert

Find and deliver Silithyst to the Silithyst Extractor, then speak with Marshal Bluewall at the Alliance encampment near Hive'Zora.
  •
Return Silithyst

Description

We recently found out that the Horde has been scavenging the Silithus desert for resources, but paid them little mind. We thought it could not be worth it to station large numbers in this sweltering desert.

However, it was discovered the importance of the resources, and now we are scrambling to catch up.

If I have your assistance, you must go into the desert and recover the silithyst and return it here.

Be careful out there, but also be quick. We have no time to lose.

Completion

Thank the Light you were successful.

Now if we could only have started this sooner, our need would not be so desperate. We must keep the bounty of the desert from falling into the hands of the Horde.

First step: Search the Silithus desert for a Silithus Mound. When you click on it you will be covered in a bright dust. Speed is slightly reduced.

Next Step: Run back to the camp where you picked up the quest. There is a machine you need to step into located @ (32,50). This will complete the returning silithus part of the quest.

Final Step: Now go back to the questgiver to turn it in.
He is located right in that camp!

Simple!

The key point here is you have to RUN back to the camp. If you attempt to mount, then you are no longer ""carrying the Silithus Mound"".

Just checked and the quest is repeatable for reputation with Centurian Circle.

Increased reputation by 20 points each time I returned Siltithus to the extractor.

You get flagged for PVP after you pick up the Silithyst. I received 19 Honor points on entering the machine for turn-in. After Patch 2.4, exp 9550, rep 500 and 20 rep on subsequent turn-ins.

Also as a level 58 Night Elf Hunter, I got mobbed by four at once on the first run. Once my pet aggro'd I ran a bit further and feigned at which time the Silithyst came off me but landed in a pile on the ground. When the mobs left me for my pet, I got up and recollected from the new pile and turned on AOC and ran. When pet distance broke him from me, I whistle him back to my side. Was no problem and made first two runs without swinging or shooting.

Quite easy for the XP, Rep and Honor Points.

I found the Silithyst Geiser right next to the Bones of Grakkaron 35.55, got covered in it, and ran back to the camp: it is the shortest distance, I believe. Did this with my 55 Druid in cat form.

For those that didn't get to play in this zone at its PVP peak--

The first turn-in (as a quest) nets you +20 honor and +20 Cenarion Circle rep. This isn't a ""repeatable quest,"" as someone said above, but it is a repeatable ACTION, which gets you the +20 honor and +20 rep.

Unless I missed something, no one mentioned the fact that the silithyst is related to the little numbers at the top center of the screen that you see when you are in Slithius. These indicate how many of these things have been turned in by each faction. If one faction reaches 200, they get a buff. You don't have to be on a quest to do this.

Agree CabbyZ, it's not all that clear either what the objective is and/or how to go about it.

This is a quest about standing in the aura lights cast out of small transient geyser-like formations. The captured aura is the Silithyst.

These geysers pop up randomly fairly regularly in and around the vicinity of the Twilight Outpost, but they can be found near the Hive and also the Bones patch. If in doubt, mouse over any light brown lumpy bits on the ground and if the faction emblems of both Alliance and Horde appear, then its an aura geyser which will shortly expel its light upwards.

To capture the aura, simply stand in the light, then make for the camp asap.
I have copied and pasted what Lucilite wrote because it was very helpful :

Lucilite on 2012/01/20 (Patch 4.3.0)
To ""complete"" the quest, you need to return to the camp with the silithys aura still on you, and step onto the big machine platform (located at coords 39,47). Basically you turn in the 'aura' to the machine, then the quest is marked as ""complete. Then you turn the completed quest in to Marshal Bluewall, who is standing nearby.

Even after you have completed the attached quest, you can return and repeat. Every time you successfully capture and turn in a Silithyst, your faction benefits - evidenced by the score at the top of your screen when in the Silithus zone.

Hope this has made sense to everyone who has been struggling to understand what to do, where to do it and how to achieve the outcomes.

Best of Luck !
