A Lost Master

Find Volcor in Darkshore and give him the Enchanted Moonstalker Cloak.
Enchanted Moonstalker Cloak
Provided Item:
Enchanted Moonstalker Cloak

Description

The cloak is complete, <name>. The time has come to find Volcor. I can only hope we are in time.

The cloak's magic, once invoked, will not last long; perhaps five minutes. It will be up to you to know when to use it: I would suggest waiting until you find Grimclaw.

If what he has told me is true, you will find his master in a cave south of here. Grimclaw will be alongside the road waiting for you. Signal to him by waving when you see him, and he'll point the way towards his master.

Completion

Wonderful! Terenthis found someone to help me.

And look. a moonstalker cloak...<cough> Oh... that hurts. Thank you, <name>.

The furbolgs wounded me before I managed to evade them. Give me a moment, and I should be fine to talk some more.

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 77.5 experience (4 65 at max. level)
  • 75 Reputation with Darnassus

You can find Volcor sitting in a cave called ""Blackwood Den"", which is south of the Grove of the Ancients along the mountian ridge (44,85). When you speak with him, you have a choice of how to escape the cave - escape by force, or by steath.

If you're a rogue or similar character that can stealth, then the stealth method would be your best bet. As a hunter that option wasn't available to me, so I chose to ""escape by force"".

Luckily, I had cleared out all the surrounding mobs before going in, so there weren't a ton of bad guys to kill. Even with the path clear, approximately 5 owlkins (or whatever they are) appeared anyway and attacked us. Volcor may walk slow, but he does fight along side you, so we were able to dispatch everyone. At most we had two monsters on us at one time.

Once you get to the road, the escort quest is done and you can turn it in back at Auberdine.

Find Grimclaw on the right side of the road heading south. /wave at him and he will point you towards the cave. Fight your way in and do not use the cloak. Should be fairly easy as you can pull one at a time. Once inside speak to Volcor and choose the escape through stealth option. You can choose this no matter what class you are because you should still have the cloak in your inventory. Volcor runs off and you can hearth or walk back to auberdine.

Completed easily as a 19 hunter.

Just a warning for you guys. Do NOT enter the cave if you're in combat. I decided to try and sneak in (Not a Rogue, by 'Sneak' I mean falling down the cliff behind the cave entrance, and hopping in, behind all of the Furbolgs). This led to me ending up half-way inside the cave, and a Furbolg then saw me and placed me in combat mode.
The person I was meant to be saving then ""Roars as his shape shifts, and runs away.""

The man ran out of the cave, and disappeared, and left me high-and-dry in the cave, surrounded by Furbolgs, without any advancements to the current quest, and still with the cape equipped.

*Note*
The man does respawn inside the cave, but it takes a good ten minutes for him to do so- So this is best left avoided if possible.

The prerequisite for this quest is https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=986 A Lost Master (part 1).

When you hand in this quest, you get a choice of two follow-up quests, https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=995 Escape Through Stealth, which simply requires you to return to https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=3693 Terenthis, or https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=994 Escape Through Force, which is an escort quest and rewards a greater amount of exp, rep, and money.

I did the quest before reading this, and I uesed the cape to sneek into the cave, and then un shifted. He was sitting there just the same, and when I talked to him it still let me pick Excape by stealth. So even if you ues the charge to get into the cave you can still pick to let him run off. And get the other reward. I found it much easier this way didn't have to fight your way in, or anything, and then just leave how ever you please.

Ok first tried to use the cape to sneak in and then escape by force. Bad idea. If your going to escape by force make sure you clear out the front of the cave first. Because mobs spawn as he's walking, so if you havent cleared you have to deal with the mobs already there plus the ones that spawn.

So here's how i did it the second time, cleared out the area in front of the cave, then ran in and accepted the quests. Two mobs spawn outside of the cave, pretty easy to deal with as he helps you, then about halfway two more spawn, and almost at the end two more spawn. Did it very easily this way as a lvl 19 hunter. Very handy to use track humanoids so you can see the spawned mobs running at you.

True if you escape by force it will be a good choice if you can equip leather if you cant you escape by stealth but then again if you escape by force you get 14 silver and
1750 experience (or a 10 80 compensation at level 80)
250 reputation with Darnassus
63 reputation with Exodar
63 reputation with Gnomeregan Exiles
and steadfast cinch
escape through stealth gives you 6 silver and
775 experience (or a 4 80 compensation at level 80)
75 reputation with Darnassus
as well as scarab trousers

If you use the cloak by accident or because you're curious about being a cat before you do the quest, you can destroy it, abandon the quest and retake it, the quest giver will give you a new one with a charge to turn into cat form.

Ok.

Just did this and it is not a very clear quest or instruction. lol.

The deal is as follows:

If you are a non stealth class and want to have an easy escape, follow this guide. If not, skip down a paragraph.

Wave to Grimclaw. Make your way to the cave by killing the mobs one by one. It will take a while, but it's worth it. You can then have a choice between Stealth or Force Escape. Assuming you want stealth, choose that and use the cape given to you. Easy, right?

If you are interested in the Force escape, follow this guide.

Wave to Grimclaw. Use the cape and run while invisible to the cave. This is where I got confused and slightly screwed up. You must leave invisibility to see Volcor in the cave. Right click on the invisibility icon at the top right of your screen. He will then appear on your screen and you can hand in the quest. Choose Force escape and have fun.

As previous posts have stated you get more experience and rep for doing Escape by Force. Also, obviously, if you are a stealthing class you can completely ignore everything I just wrote and choose however you want to complete the quest.

Taking ANY damage will take you out of stealth and thus remove the charge from the cloak. This was something I had not considered as I moved (not far enough) around a campfire. Be careful sneaking in.

Chose to leave by force as a level 21 shaman. As advised, I single-pull cleared the camp before entering the cave and started the event. Volcor does very nice damage against the attackers that spawn, three pairs in all. Got past the first two pairs (all ordinary melee types) and was just about thinking it was a piece of cake when the third pair appeared - two casters. Bad news, they heal each other. They killed me, but fortunately the graveyard is nearby (unlike pretty much every other quest in Darkshore) and I was able to run back to find Volcor holding up surprisingly well - in fact, one of the casters was almost dead. After throwing down a healing totem, we dispatched the other one fairly easily. So don't get discouraged if you die, just get back right smartly and finish the job. Oh, and don't forget to /wave to Grimclaw before heading in to clear the camp or you will find an empty cave.

Can't remember where I read this, but a few years ago I think I saw some solid information on how this was supposed to have been connected to the beta druid cat form quest that was ultimately tossed out before the game went live.
