Description

Alas, the time to attack Andorhal and drive out the lich that controls it is upon us!

Inside the ruins of the city is where the lich - Araj the Summoner - holds dominion. He is guarded by numerous Scourge surrounding the remains of city's center, and his personal retinue of guardians attached to him directly is formidable. You will need numerous allies to even stand a chance of facing him successfully.

Destroy Araj, <name>, and bring me a shard from his phylactery as proof!

Completion

You've done it! Araj... the lich is finally defeated!

You can pull the undead on the front (east) side without aggroing Araj. This makes it a little easier to kill him.

If you have a caster, you can stand on the edge of the nearby broken carriage and attack Araj the summoner directly without the guarding mob attacking you. His icebolts deal alot of damage, so Its best to bring a healer along with you. You will still need to kill the rest of the mobs after you kill Araj the summoner so you can loot his corpse and conplete the quest.

He was already dead when I arrived to kill him.
He corpse is some sort of a relic, right click on the relic to receive the Shard.

Also need to kill him for the key to Scholomance quest chain final quest https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=5803 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=5803, saves having to kill him twice. (chain starts at https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=5533 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=5533)

As a side note, completing the quest https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=4972 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=4972 provides a handy talisman that causes damage to Araj, and reduces the damage he dishes out by 25%, though only use it AFTER he has been wounded.

Really easy with use of Chromie's Attuned Dampener (https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=12650 https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=12650). If 2 man's got it he will be nearly instantly killed.

Also, then you complite quest you will get 700 Argent Dawn rep and 350 rep with each Alliance faction or will got revered status with all Alliance factions (mean no reputation if you don't revered with every faction yet). Before Burning Crusade it was a really fast and nice way get a revered with Alliance factions to buy mount etc.

To get the item from Araj, you basically need to:
  1. Kill him (https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=1852 Araj the Summoner).
  2. Loot the object (https://vanillawowdb.com/?object=177241 Araj's Phylactery) he spawns on his death.
  3. You are done!
Quick info
Now to do this might be a little tricky if you are alone, now he is supposed to be a 2 man (or higher) ""boss"". Luckly you can solo him as a ranged class! With some DPS and smart use of enviroment you can solo him without a problem (at least no problem for a Frost Mage, probably Fire too :P)

I made a small video (50 seconds) how you can pull him and then kill him without any adds interrupting you! ;)

Knoxpwns nailed it. I left my 53 feral druid very close to the boss stealthed. Got on my 70 hunter, cleared the area, and got the boss. I logged off, got back on my druid and looted the ""corpse"". It's not a corpse but some sort of pedestal you have to activate. Easy exp.

My advice for this is to make sure that you clear ALL the mobs around him in the town square. I tried to just clear a path to him from one direction and the rest got pulled as soon as I attacked him. Didn't go well.

This is also how I discovered the purpose for the repeatable Attuned Dampener quests. Once you use one, it's gone. If you fail the first time, get another or come with two. Not sure if two different characters could both use one, but that's the reason one character can have multiple Attuned Dampeners.

Maybe the buffed it? But pulling mobs from either side aggro'd them all AND Araj as a level 57 shadow priest. I just hopped on my mage (80), pew pew'd them all and logged back onto the priest to loot. Easy peasy.

Just did this on my level 53 Shadow Priest. Granted, I cheated. I did the alt trick. Logged my priest off to the side, hopped on my L80 DK and AoE'd the isht out of Araj and his posse, then switched to my Priest and grabbed the phylactery. Easiest 14,280 EXP ever.

EDIT: Thought I should mention, it's extremely easy to get to this area if you have a high level DK, since they start with all the old world flight paths. Just open up a Death Gate, and take the flight path over to Chillwind Camp.
