Tharnariun's Hope

Find and kill the Den Mother.
  •
Den Mother slain

Description

The survival of our people and lands comes at unfortunate costs, <name>.

You have spilled the blood of nature's servants; many sick animals you have felled. The people of Auberdine are indebted to you, for the forest's pain is eased - even if only for a moment.

I have one final task for you, but be warned, you will have to kill again. It is my hope that this will be the last time I call upon you, <name>.

In a cave to the northeast, near Bashal'Aran, resides the Den Mother. Slay her.

Reward

You can choose one of these awards:
Evergreen Gloves
Timberland Cape

Progress

With the infected Den Mother slain, the population of Rabid Thistle Bears entering our land is lessened. Waste no time, <name>.

Completion

You have fought for Auberdine with bravery and honor, <name>. In our war torn lands, death and despair are common. Many will not rise to meet the challenge of life in our new home, choosing instead to hide in their homes or escape to the more fortified lands of the Alliance.

Thank you, <name>. Perhaps someday soon we shall fight along side as comrades versus another foe.

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 135 experience (8 10 at max. level)
  • 250 Reputation with Darnassus

At 52, 35, just south of the Naga cave, is a pathway leading up to the den. You'll find level 19 mama bear snoozing between her 4 lvl 9-10 cubs.

[Hunter - lvl 15]
[Pet - Cat lvl 15]
No Death Solo
Stuff used: One Lesser Healing Potion

Pulled first two cubs, killed 'em. Then sent the pet in to target the mum. When he made contact, I started nuking the mum. Unfortunately the Growl was resisted, so I Concussive Shot and Arcane Shot the mum as she run towards me. Run back and sent the pet for her. She aggroed to him, but I had those two cubs up my neck. So I drank the potion, helped the pet kill the mum, then we killed the two remaining cubs.

Somehow like this, perhaps not exactly :) The strategy, however, was to pull two of the cubs first and then when they are dead nuke the mum and see what happens.

Good luck :)

For some reason, I just couldn't seem to pull the cubs alone.

So, on my 17 Druid, here is what I did.

Get full health, put on all buffs. Get as close as possible without aggroing (you can almost get right next to the first cub). Cast Regrowth and Rejuvenation, blast the mother with Moonfire, then go into Bear Form and start attacking her. Use Demoralizing Roar and Bash (on her) to help lessen incoming damage. Keep using Maul as often as possible, and as soon as she dies, turn around and run straight out of the cave and jump off the hill. Keep going until you leave combat.

I should mention that the fall from the hill will do some damage and may kill you if you're very low on health. Try to go slightly off to the left side before jumping; it's a shorter distance down in that spot.

I did this as Balance; someone specced for Feral could kill her more quickly and get out sooner. It's possible that you may get unlucky and be ""stunlocked"" by the bears. If you see that you're at about 30% and the mother isn't nearly dead, try to run out so you can try again.

It can be difficult, but it's rewarding when you pull it off! Good luck!

easily soloed as a 19 mage

I first pulled the 2 cubs and killed them. I used frostbolt on the den mother then used fireball on her then frost nova and fire blast and more fireballs and arcane explosions on the cubs

I easily soloed this as a level 17 Shadow specced Priest. I managed to kill the three cubs at the entrance fairly easily. That left only the mother and one cub next to her. I targeted the mother and used Mind Blast (Level 2) then Shadow Word: Pain (Level 2) then wailed on her with my wand.

The cub was smacking me around at the same time I was smacking the mom around. I had to Power Word: Shield one, heal, then finished off the mom. The cub was easy after that as it was a level 10, as all the cubs are. Oh, the mom is a level 18.

It may have been in a recent patch, but the Den Mother is now 19th level, not 18th. Attacking one cub draws all of them; the rest of the cubs and the den mother.

I managed to solo it as a 16th level warrior but just. Barely. It involved a lot of dying, and a lot of Shadow-melding. And a lot of potions. I do not recommend it.

The Nava cave is under the waterfall at Cliffspring River. That might help a little bit with this quest. 51.57, 37.41, there is a trail just past the Nava cave to follow. The Cave and Mushrooms Quest will get you near where you should be to do this quest.

lvl 18 druid... just heal when ur about to die, dont bother hitting the cubs cuz u have thorns on and they have low health...
or you can go bear form and use swipe lots of times but you'll need quite a lot of rage so i would just stick with normal mode and normal attacks if you have a gd staff =D
if you're lower lvl, use rejuvenation and regrowth before you enter cuz they seem to pile on all at once..

The path by a Furblong Camp. I went to the Naga cave. DIED like 3 times. My husband said it was near Bashal'Aran and that frustrated me more. I finally looked at ThotBot and it said it was between the two furblong camps and I FINALLY found it.

Again, THE PATH IS BY THE FURBLONG CAMPS!

Lvl 18 Druid. Do NOT try to spare the lvl 9-10 cubs or you will get killed! Unless you are higher lvl of course...
