Un'Goro Soil (20)

Description

The soil of Un'Goro Crater is reportedly enriched with potent magical qualities. I want to know facts from falsehoods; go into the wilds of Un'Goro and acquire enough quality samples of soil for our continued study.

You may think that collection tasks are beneath you; that sort of attitude does not endear yourself to me or the Cenarion Circle. Bring the samples to Jenal, who is no doubt wasting time outside behind this tree; just look for the piles of dirt. He will handle the logistics - not I.

Reward

Also, you get: 1 45

Progress

Ah yes, the dirt. The Arch Druid wants twenty loads per adventurer, and twenty loads he shall get. Let those who conspire against us fall to the wayside!

Completion

Unload your precious cargo here, noble <class>. It must have been quite the burden... not unlike the burden I carry being a visionary. Here is an honorarium for your work, as dictated by the Arch Druid himself.

Arch Druid Staghelm wants to speak with you again <name>, but for his next task you will be aided if you have a journeyman's understanding of Herbalism. If you don't know it though, you will still be able to aid the Circle!

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 470 experience (28 20 at max. level)
  • 250 Reputation with Darnassus

Got to the crater, stealthed around to explore the crater. As I came upon Un'Goro soil, I'd activate it and collect the samples. By the time I had ""mapped"" the crater, I had 24 soil samples without fighting anything. Received 4700 XP at turn in.

If you choose to use this strategy, just make sure you look around the soil 360 degrees before you sample it. There are lots of high level mobs (if you are L49) that may detect you if they get too close. If you are careful and patient, you should be able to complete this quest without any major problem.

Please note: Un'Goro Soil can also be dropped from mobs in Un'Goro Crater. I got some from the Ravasaur's. ( Very big raptors ;) )

Hard to find it on the ground, look close to the trees' roots and the drop rate from mobs is low. Try to find more soil for the next quest https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=3781 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=3781

It's also non-soulbound so you can find it in the Auction House. Well I normally put it into the auction house when I pick it up.

I suggest doing this quest if your a higher level (55ish) or if you have a higher level helping you, unless you can stealth. If you can stealth then the 'run around stealthed until you find all the soil' plan works, but if you can't then prepare to fight for this quest. Ground soil is scarce, especially when a lot of other people are doing this quest around you. If you stray away from everyone then I'm sure you can find some on the ground but high level mobs are everywhere. The soil drop rates on the mobs themselves vary, I've had okay drop rates but nothing to scream about. Like I said I'd get a high level to help kill mods or stealth, and if you do this solo without stealthing best of luck ;-).

According to QH (Questhelper) the soil is found Mid-Teldrassil, ignore it -.-

Confirmed. The NPC it refers to doesn't exist either. You have to go out to the UnGoro Crater.

And once you know what the piles of dirt look like, you'll see them everywhere.

I have found that killing Ravasaur hunters and Tar beasts give you the fastest dirt drop rate.

Decided to sight see around the crater. Found the dirt along the way in mounds. Didnt have to kill a thing. Keep in mind some mounds held 3 samples. The east side of the crater to the edge seems the least dangerous.

This quest should be done along with https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=4289 The apes of Un'goro.
The apes in and around the cave in north eastern Un'Goro have an amazing drop rate of the soil. Anyway for me, when I was there after already having completed the Un'Goro soil quest, running around the whole area...

Be sure to gather lots of extra soil for the follow up. Thirty or so should do it.
