Please note that Add-ons (Such as EveryQuest) and the Wowhead Profiler do not count this quest as completed even if you have done it. This is because it is one of the ~Pick up and hand in with one click~ style quests, or one of the special repeatables which are scattered around the world which don't actually seem to treat themselves as real repeatables. Even if you query the blizzard servers for your completed quests, this quest registers as incomplete.

Turning in the ale to Jarven did not count toward my Loremaster but complating the quest with the barrel did.

This barrel is guarded by Jarven Thunderbrew. As long as he's in the basement, no barrels may be disturbed.
