A Sample of Slime...

Gather Felwood Slime Samples from any of the slimes in Felwood. Then, using the Testing Equipment next to Chemist Fuely in Undercity, see which of your samples are the most corrupt. Bring 5 of the Corrupted Felwood Samples you find to Chemist Fuely.

Corrupted Felwood Sample (5)

Description

Felwood is a forest far north of the Barrens, even farther than Ashenvale. There, slimes are found all around pools of water blessed by the touch of Fel. The Scourge decimated the area with attacks of Infernals and other demonic magics--the slimes supposedly crept up through the earth during these attacks.

Gather samples of Felwood slimes and we will use the testing equipment next to me to create a control group for our tests against other samples you gather.

Reward

Also, you get: 60

Progress

I will need at least five corrupted samples for our control group, <name>. Continue to gather Felwood slime samples until you're able to give me that which we'll need. The Lady Sylvanas decrees it...

Completion

Ah, excellent. These samples will do nicely. I thank you for your help.

Once we've gathered all the samples of slimes, we'll be able to determine more. I am beginning to suspect that Lady Sylvanas' hunch was not only correct, but more insightful than even she could have predicted. These samples are very interesting. Just seeing how they've reacted with my compounds... hmm, yes, we'll definitely need to investigate further.

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 510 experience (30 60 at max. level)
  • 250 Reputation with Undercity

All the oozes and slimes I encountered had 100% drop rate for the samples. I gathered 20, just to be on the safe side, and had more than enough.

Back in UC, there are two testing bowls on the table. Use the green one for the Un'Goro samples, and the red one for the Felwood samples.

Once you have enough samples for the quest, test your remaining samples. Between the two testing quests, I managed to pull out some decent herbs and a stack of Superior Healing Potions.

After you turn in the quest, you can no longer use the testing equipment.

I found this one easier than the Un'Goro samples, I got my 5 bottles within 10 samples. The Un'Goro one required over 20 samples. I guess it just depends on how lucky you are.

Normally takes about ten samples to get all the quest samples you need, but I'd get fifteen anyway just to be on the safe side. If you want to be extra careful, go with twenty. You won't need any more than that unless you have extremely bad luck.

I'm glad I read wowhead before deciding on how many I should get :D. I was thinking 20 would be good at first, but after reading the comments I decided on 40 (I did not wanna make another trip). Turns out I needed 34!

This is an excellent grinding quest, as are most of the Apothecarium's. It's not as frustrating because it's a 100% drop rate, and you just feel so darn responsible when you say, ""Nah I'll try for 30, just in case"". Being Horde, we luck out not just getting the quest but the location of Bloodvenom Post. I like to get around 30, and I test them all even when I get all my confirmed samples because sometimes you can get some neat things out of it. Heck, it's just fun.

something is very odd now... I gathered 15 samples and the drops completely stopped, from any type of ooze (no, I didn't join a raid group in the middle of the quest). Either blizz upped the testing success rate and thus decided to cap the number of samples you can get so people don't waste time farming them forever, or something is glitched.... I'll see when I get to UC to test them.

Edit: I tried destroying one sample, and killing oozes again... I got one more to put me back at 15 and the drops stopped again.
Update: When I tested the samples I got my 5th success on the very last sample. Either I got lucky, or blizz changed this quest to give the illusion of being random, while actually guaranteeing 5 successes in 15 tries

In patch 3.3.5 only 15 samples can be collected. Make sure you collect the max of 15. Out of 15 collected samples I got my 5 pure with 5 collected left over. This quest is good for your Loremaster Achievement and Undercity Reputation too. Other than that it's an old time sink quest from Vanilla Wow. With the travel time involved it's really only good for the achievements. With Cataclysm on the horizon everything is subject to change.

The item you gather now looks like an orange, low-level elixir.
