This quest is a hell for hunters without a pet. Don't even try this.
Terrain and bridges make u loose 'line of sight', so u are able to fire up to 2 arrows before u get crushed by 2-3 furblog warriors in melee no way to survive the pull... no way to run due to the rapid respawn

By CharlzO on 06/28/2007 (Patch 2.1.2)
--The first two relics are found when you walk in. Follow the little tunnel till you come to an opening with two bridges infront of you. At the end of both bridges are little caves with the chests that hold the relics. Careful: There are usually two guys within the caves and there's one (that's possibly on both) that patrols the bridge to your left.

--After that, keep following the tunnel. There will be a place to go infront of you, and tunnel leading off to the right that looks like it ""spiral's"" down. Follow the spiral tunnel. You will eventually come to another bridge that you may cross. There is no relic inside this cave, but a quest. Its up to you if you want to get it. The guy's name is Rageclaw, if I recall correctly...
**If you do go straight ahead, this will take you to a platform.

--Now, on that plat form, there's usually a guy standing in the middle, and one that patrols the bridge leading to the platform and another patrolling the little bridge that leads you down, along with another that walks on the other bridge straight ahead (or almost) of you. That's where you want to go. It's like a cave - when you first walk in there's approx. 2 guys in that little 'bubble'. There's a tunnel to your right which you want to take. That takes you to another 'bubble' in which there's approx. 2 more guys. Once you kill them, turn to the right and there's your chest with one of the relics sitting out on a 'deck' (looks like one, as it has a railing...).
**If you didn't go straight ahead, don't worry.

--If you get the quest, that's alright. Now, there's going to be another opening straight ahead, and once more, another that spirals down. Take the spiral first - There's another relic down there. This one is by that beloved Greenpaw dude...whatever his name is...Anyways, there's him (usually lvl 10ish or so) along with a lvl 8, 7, or 9. Once you're done there, move back up the spiral and take the opening on your right. Follow that. You'll come to a little arena-like area. There'll be a large pillar of stone in the middle, with guys walking around it. There IS a little cave bubble down there, but it HAS NO RELIC. This is where rageclaw's body lurks, so he might attack you. He patrols around the pillar. Now, there should be a little pathway to your left, taking you up to the platform. Kill the guys there. (I've describe approx. how many guys are there in the lil dot thing above this one.) You're going to want to take the bridge to your right, leading you into The cave bubble. Kill the guys there and take the one to your left to the next bubble, kill those guys. To your right is the 'deck' with your relic

Thank you to the post above by CharlzO, the guide was brilliant, I followed it and completed the quest SOLO as a level 9 Hunter (leveling to level 10 in cave, but getting no training and no pet). I used 4 Minor Healing Potions and died only once. I also completed both of the quests from Oben Rageclaw (https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=7317 https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=7317), The Sleeping Druid (https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=2541 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=2541) and Druid of the Claw (https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=2561 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=2561).

Their was no change in the amount of Mobs in the cave in patch 2.3, still being 2 or 3 mobs in the 'bubbles'.

Thanks again for the help!

Quick and dirty coordinates version:

Ban'ethil Barrow Den entrance: 43,58

Black Feather Quill: 43,61 in a small room across a bridge.

Rune of Nesting: 44, 60 in a small room across a different bridge. Same chamber as the Quill.

Sapphire of Sky: 44,62 in a small room at the very bottom of the chamber.

Ravenclaw Talisman: 45,57. Get there by taking the eastern bridge in that chamber. Clear the small room and take the tunnel on the left. It leads to the balcony that the chest is on.

Seconded the above comment, take your time, be careful, and unleash hell to stop runners (or pull them back).

Another thing that makes this quest frustratingly difficult is that unless you were lucky enough to have some bags drop earlier, the four items needed to complete this quest will seriously clutter your lonely 16-slot backpack. And that means less room for the epics that might drop.

A good way to find the chests which contain the items is just dying and then search in the cave for them (chests) while dead. Just have to remember the places where you have seen them...

This quest is a pain in the butt. Close corridors, confusing, twisty passages, and no way to keep two and sometimes three mobs from attacking you. I'd recommend waiting until at least level 10 to try this. Druids will find this a lot easier after they get bear form.

Easily soloable as a lvl 9 druid :) I took my time, waited for pats... etc. If you go slow it saves you both time and the headache. I've done this quest in a rush before, needless to say... I was dreading every minute I had to do this quest on my baby druid.

Bad thing is :P the voodoo charm droprate sucks, and if you're like me... you were down there forever. BoA pieces help as well; being a bit 'overgeared' made it a lot easier.

Looking at some comments above this may have been nerfed big time as it was pretty easy as a lvl 8 druid and i didnt die once perhaps it suits druid skills ... it's quiet long if u do the rageclaw quest , i came out as a lvl 10 ... so take food n drink maybe some pots .... keep your health and mana up as you can get into trouble with getting caught by multiple mobs ... most mobs are 7 & 8 ..though the item at the bottom is in a cave with a lvl 10 and another mob .. and there was a few caves near the bottom with 2 lvl 9s ... rageclaw is lvl 10 but he walks in a circle so clear the mobs near where ur going to pull him .. though he actually is easy to kill i didnt heal or use pots and my gear is only the stuff i picked up as i quested ...just REMEMBER to use the Charm on his body ... i got back to the QG and realised so had to go kill rageclaw again :P .... I picked up lotsa cloth so good or my first aid :) .... as some others have said dont rush ..plan and drink and eat often and it's pretty easy

This is a great quest to do. I did it as a just dinged level 9 druid and when I was done gathering the items and doing rageclaws quest I was level 10 and 70% of the way to 11. You have to kill a ridiculous amount of things as they respawn fairly fast so its a ton of xp. That was even before I turned the quest in, so I got almost 2 levels out of this place.

Extremely easy quest. I soloed on my level 7 druid and im new to WoW. The method i found useful was to draw a bunch of them into a group and use ""Thorns"" and let them attack me, if i got low of health i uses ""Healing Touch"" bringing me back to full health.

Banethil Hollow has changed since 4.0+ for the better. There is now a guide that will follow you around and will help you get to each of the relics via a green mist. She will also help with Rageclaw, who is at the top of the den.

PLEASE NOTE: When Rageclaw asks you to kill his physical body, it is in the locked room, which is next to his den. He is no longer patrolling the bottom of the den. I didn't read the quest text and spent a good 20 minutes running around trying to find him.

You no longer need a group to do this, which is a relief.

OK I just completed this quest, and it's very easy now. By the time I got to it I was already level 9 (druid) and the mobs are all level 7 I believe. Maybe there are some level 8 in there but there aren't many if at all.

1.) You talk to Citarre Mapleheart, the NE on the Saber next to the quest givers and she will put you on a Sentinel Nightsaber that will run you all the way to the entrance and you don't have to do anything. You don't even get aggro from the mobs you pass on the way there.

2.) You have to kill a few mobs to get into the ""cave"" proper, but it's maybe 3. The Shamans DO heal themselves so you want to open up on them as best you can. It wasn't difficult really. Once you are almost inside the door, or past the ""doorway"" a sentinel Huntress (Level 9) pops up beside you and helps you kill everything. You can also ask her where the relics are and this green mist guides you there.

3.) The mist is handy but disappears when you are in combat or actually as soon as the mist ""sees"" a mob in your path. Just ask the same question after the way is clear and keep going.

4.) Oben Rageclaw is at 45.0/53.45 and I wish I had gotten to him before I finished finding the relics because you need a totem that drops off the Shaman, but there were enough around I could still do it. The Huntress stays with you until you exit the ""cave"" and if you've set your hearth at the inn, you hearth back and you are right there with the quest givers.

No need to dread this one. They made it very easy to do save for finding Oben.

I was ready to collect the relics by memory, for I am an alt queen, then this lovely NPC claims she's here to help me, and I click to talk to her, and it shows to ask where the relics are. I'm not going to lie, I laughed because I knew where the relics were, by memory, so as I gathered the relics, I noticed Rageclaw wasn't patrolling in his usual spot, and that there was a locked door. I simply ignored these facts, but I wanted to get more Darnassus rep for my Human Hunter that I brought over there and when I recieved the quest to kill Rageclaw, and I stopped and thought a moment. Wouldn't Blizzard have taken out this quest if Rageclaw wasn't around? I was thinking before I got ambushed by a couple of furbolgs, then I had to stop thinking and kill them. That's when it dawned on me, duh, the locked door! I was curious as to how I was going to open up the lock door, but I just walked right up to it, while on the quest, and it opened, and I got my quest done, and I exited without hearthing or the help of the NPC :]

Hmm....The mist will lead the way? If the ball of mist appears, then vanishes, rotate you character, you may not be pointing in the right direction.

Its a shame that some of the very detailed directions previous posters gave no longer apply since obvious changes have been made. I appreciate people giving the coords of the various locations, but in a multi-level cave like this one they are not very helpful. Pre-Cata there was a cave just like this one in Ashenvale, it was just as confusing. I did not appreciate the fact that there were so many mobs in the halls-it really slowed things down though all that XP was nice.

At the first (left hand) bridge I ran into a locked door. while trying to figure what to do, a rogue comes along and opens it. I follow the rogue, he ninja's the relic and leaves. I wait for the relic to rezz, this bad guy rezzes, I kill him .. and now I find no relic, and the door has locked me in. And the stupid damned NE helper has no answers except for her stupid mist .. which will NOT unlock the door.

This sucks. I now remember why I hate this barrow den, and I'm never coming back here again. I'll get my lousy 250 rep someplace else.

Please note, the entrance to this den is near 46.2/48.9 in a sort of house looking front door. It's across from the cave where the level 9 boss is in (I was not able to kill him as a level 7 hunter). The house is around the mountain if you happen to be near the village. This is as of 7/2012. Just FYI.
