Description

If there's one thing you'll learn about Southshore it's that we have some of the best cuisine north of Stormwind!

Take my secret recipe for Turtle Bisque, for example. I've known folks to travel from as far as Darkshire just to enjoy a bowl. Speaking of which, I haven't been able to make any lately. I used to head up past Dalaran to Lake Lordamere myself to hunt Snapjaws but it's just too dangerous now. If you bring me some Turtle Meat from the Snapjaws up north and Soothing Spices, I'll whip some up!

The location given in the quest log has a much better droprate than the river. Head to the lake north of Dalaran, i got all 10 pieces of meat in 16 kills. Also it is untrue, as of July 20, 2007, that you need 1 cooking skill to acquire this quest, i have yet to train cooking and just completed it.

Meat drops from turtles who are located north of Dalaran. Drop from ones in Hillsbrad are very low. However quest tells you to hunt turtles at north Dalaran.

i suggest grinding the turtles in the shimmering flats near the thousand needles. the drop rate there aint all that nasty and besides, on the mirage raceway, there are quests to be done and everything is found on the shimmering flats itself. watch out for higher level turtles between lvl 34-35. kill those lvl 30-31 turtles. located on the northwestern part of the shimmering flats!

maybe im just incredibly lucky or, more likely, blizzard has tweeked the quest, because i got a 1/1 (!!) drop rate on the turtles in the river just east of Southshore, between the waterfall near the shore and the rocks a bit upriver. I even got 2 turtle meat from one.

The river on the east of southshore drops more than the other places, I got turtle meat with every turtle I killed, and I even sometimes got Turtle Meat x2.

When you pick up the soothing spices, be sure to grab the other recipes the guy sells. You can put them on the AH and make some money.

The turtles you kill for this quest are simply godly for Cooking, from about 110-225.

First, they occasionally drop https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=6330 Bristle Whisker Catfish for 100+ Cooks. The turtles also drop clams which have Zesty Clam Meat for https://vanillawowdb.com/?spell=6500 Goblin Deviled Clams. Farm enough clams to get to 175 and you'll have tons of Turtle Meat for the quest and to skill up -- not to mention some Irridescent/Small Lustrous Pearls and Heavy/Medium leather (if you're a skinner) to boot.

The Turtle Bisque recipe doesn't even turn yellow until 215, so you can easily do your entire stretch from 150-225 this way.

They were dropping 1 or two meats everytime and about 30% of the time got a clam besides. Was skinning besides for medium to heavy hides. Easy quest.

I just hunted up the river, then went around the falls and continued up river till I found the mountain lions for that quest and completed it also.

Pick up Costly Menace before doing this one. Every turtle dropped at least one meat, often two. Worked my way up river to Chillwind point to do Costly Menace. By the time I reached there I had 38 meats, 9 thick scales and 7 speckled shell fragments, along with 10 tasty clam meats and an irridesent pearl. Ended up killing 19 lions for which I got 7 lion meats, 3 briskly whiskers, a retractable claw and a large fang. Love this quest.

Make sure you are at the spot mentioned in the quest text, near Dalaran is 100% drop rate.

Check the chat log in this screenshot, you can see I got over what I needed in under a minute.

this is in response to everyone who suggested the area in dalaran gives more turtle meat - this is false. i have done this quest (or forms of it) both as a horde and as an alliance, through about 6 characters and both sides of the map (since April 2007) gives about the same quantity of turtle meat (between 1-2 from memory). So there's really no need to run all the way up north and then come back down to finish up a quest ""quick"".

I don't know about anyone else, but as a level 30 frost mage, the turtle I fought resisted half of my spells making them a pain to kite. Thought I'd make mention of this.

I just did this quest and I went to Lake Lordamere (Lake north of Dalaran) and got a 167% droprate. Most of them were dropping 2 meat at a time. I highly recommend this spot, (15,54).

I did this quest long ago before I started cooking, and I sold the recipe quest reward. Now of course Chef Jessen won't even talk to me. Is there another way to get to cooking 200?
