Scarlet Subterfuge

Speak to Myranda to gain the Scarlet Illusion. Travel to Hearthglen while under the Scarlet Illusion and deliver Tirion's Gift to Highlord Taelan Fordring.

Hearthglen is to the north, Taelan should be inside of Mardenholde Keep.

Description

I am what you would call, an illusionist. Though I may be able to create an illusion to allow you entry into Hearthglen, be warned; my powers have their limitations.

Should you travel too far from these lands, the effects of the illusion will cease. The spell itself takes a great amount of concentration and power from me, and thus, I can only sustain the effect for a short time.

Speak to me again when you are ready.

Make sure you get the disguise buff from her after accepting the quest. You cannot complete the quest without it.

This quest leads to the escort ""In Dreams"" immediately after turning it in.

Easy Mode:

Don't. Do. Anything.

When he says to take off the disguise, ignore him. When he mounts, ignore him. Just follow and watch the show. When you get to the spot with 4 60 Elites, just watch. When he fights the Grand Inquisitor, just watch. When the Grand Inquisitor kills you, DO NOT RELEASE, just watch.

When the quest is over, release and go back to where you died to get your reward. You're gonna die, just go with it.

When you get to the tower Fordring will call out some scarlet crusade 63 elite. just watch the show as with the Onyxia key chain. Fordring will die but you can usually just stay far enough away to stay out of combat. After Fordring dies, just wait for his dad to come riding up and lay the smack down. He well kill everyone then if your still alive just go talk to him to claim your awesome reward!

BEFORE YOU DO THIS QUEST...

You can use the disguise that Myranda the Hag gives you to finish two other XP-rich quests in ""EZ mode"".

The Mark of the Lightbringer - Part 1/2 - lvl 58 req

Requires you to get a box in one of the towers along the road.
6200xp + 250 rep/Exodar, with an easy follow-up quest worth another 7750xp + 350rep

Unfinished Business - Part 3/3 - lvl 55 req

Asks you to go up the tower that's in the middle of Hearthglen and face the main gates.
6200xp for an elite quest and all you have to do is walk through some friendly 55-60 elites.

I strongly recommend you complete both these quests before you talk to Fordring in Hearthglen, as you can't stray too far from him once he begins the escort quest. And in the worst secnario, if you get ganked, you can still run back to get another disguise from Myranda.

Last note, do NOT remove your disguise when Tirion tells you to. It is NOT necessary and only makes the escort harder. The down side is that you cannot loot the bodies along the escort becase you did not aggro them, however, I find it's a small price to pay for a little extra assurance I won't die from mobs (especially at the last part when he, himself dies to mobs 9_9"")

I ran this on my Draenei Paladin last night. I don't know if they changed this quest at all or not (bug maybe), but it appears that if you have your disguise still up when Taelan dies, the quest will fail. This happened twice for me. On the third try, I dropped my disguise when Isillien approached him stood back a bit to stay out of aggro range and the event went on normally.

So just to be safe, remove your disguise before Isillien engages Taelan and stand back.

As a heads up to those who might wanna see if they can take Isillien, he does hurt even for a lvl 63 elite, he's imune to most stuns (atleast none of my rogue ones did anything) and he bubbles often making damage pointless.

It's best to do as Tealan said and only worry about the others and leave the caster to him.

I'd like to point out that if Tealan Fordring dies before a certain point, you fail the escort. Keep the disguise until you get to Isillien. Then drop the disguise and take out the other two elites. Tealan will ""die"" and you may or may not be able to do any damage to Isillien. I'm 68 BM Hunter and beat away on him for a bit before any damage would take hold.

Daddy takes a while to show up and kill off Isillien.

Also note that if you fail the escort, you have to go back to Myranda to get another disguise then go back to Tealan to re-accept escort.

the short version (well, mine @ 28-10-2009):

- get the quest (and put on the disquise)
- talk to Taelan in Hearthglen
- let him kill the guards surrounding him
- get the follow up (the escort quest)
- take of the disquise when he says so
- escort him out (or let him escort you out :)
- kill the surrounding mobs during his fight with Issillien at the tower
- He dies, then kill Issillien yourself (bit of a toughy)
- Hand in right there at the tower when Taelan's father Tirion comes

Just a tip guys:

DO NOT Attempt to do https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=9474 Mark Of The Lightbringer while having the disguise. The disguise will fade and the scarlets will attack you so dont try it.
