Description

You have the look of a fisherman, <class>! I love to fish - been fishing all my life. The best bait to use is soft-shelled clam meat; the fish just can't resist, you know what I mean?

Up north you will find a wrecked ship off the coast. Soft-shelled clams are littered throughout the area. If you bring me back 10 pieces of soft-shelled clam meat, I will give you something in return.

In addition to killing the mobs listed that drop the Meat, you can loot underwater clams that are in the area. There are 34-35 mobs in the area that you'll probably have to kill to be able to loot the underwater clams.

There are also a number of water logged chests if you're a rogue looking to level up your lock picking skill. Becuase of swimspeed this becomes a slow quest.

This quest is also very near https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=6143 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=6143 for the Horde, so you might just want to hit them at the same time.

Watch out for the crawlers on the ocean floor. They won't aggro on you (unless you attack them), but they will destroy the giant clams you need to open in order to get the meat. They run fast once they've zeroed in on a clam, so attack them before they get near it.

There is also a bubbly fissure near the boat at 33, 31, if your not a warlock, and if you don't feel like swimming back up.

As a side note, there is nothing special about this boat. I just swam long the western shore from the docks to the boat. By the time I got to the boat I had collected all the clams that I needed.

Easier way to get the 10 clams is head to 25,48 along the coast from the docks. Your see a clam and a few mobs, one is close to the clam so take him out. Then just farm that single clam, it respawns approximately every 2 min.

Just as the guy said about the coords: 25,48, I'd highly recommend doing that method.

At 25,48 you have one clam and at 24,44 you have another. They're very close together and with a respawn rate of 2 minutes (seems like it's less), this is quite considerably one of the fastest ways to get the quest done.

This quest is retarded.
The https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=12347 Enraged Reef Crawlers around this area at first glance appear to be completely harmless, being ""yellow"", AKA Netral/Non-hostile.
WRONG.
Those little bastards scuttle around, and whenever they come inside thirty-odd yards from one of the https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=15874 Soft-shelled Clams lying around the bottom of the ocean, they haul ass over to it and destroy it.
Unless you happen to have https://vanillawowdb.com/?spell=1066 Aquatic Form or a metric %^&amp;*-ton of https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=6372 Swim Speed Potions and an https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=5996 Elixir of Water Breathing, do your blood pressure a favor and skip this quest.

If the quest shows as incomplete but the clams stopped sparkling, remember to open the shells up in your inventory. I keep forgetting every time I do this quest. :D

A quick tip - you have to open the clams you collect. You need the meat inside, not the clams themselves.

For any shaman doing this, here was my strategy. Before I left Shadowprey Village, I put up https://vanillawowdb.com/?spell=546 Water Walking and mounted up. I watched the the ocean floor as I went, and when I spotted my first clam, I cast https://vanillawowdb.com/?spell=131 Water Breathing and dived under to get it. I had almost no trouble with the aggressive mobs, nor with the crawlers, as there are plenty of clams on the way north. If your Water Walking or Breathing wears out, just recast and keep going. If you're doing this quest with https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=6143 Other Fish to Fry, the naga drop the reagents for both Water Walking and Water Breathing, so you can replenish your stores at the same time.

Post Shattering, you can pick up the clams while in the naga disguise from the https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=14255 Ethel Rethor quest chain. There are lots of clams around the naga island (Slitherblade Shore), and the increased swim speed + not worrying about naga attacks saves a lot of time.

for some reason, this quest is not available to me as a level 43 blood elf protection paladin. i already did Shadowprey Village and Blubbergut.

hmm as a 85 Death knight i could not start this quest. when I swim towards the clams they just phase out.

I'm grinding Darkspear rep, so I'd like to do this quest. As best I can tell Mai'lahii starts the quest as well as finishing it, but it's not available to me (lvl 35 Troll Druid). I did get the ""Blubbergut"" quest from her, and I've completed it. Is there another pre-req, or a different quest-giver to start it?

I'm pretty sure that as of Cataclysm, this quest does not exist. I just ran my rogue through Desolace and couldn't find this quest.
