Tremors of the Earth

Use the Sign of the Earth to activate the Pillars of Amethyst, Opal, and Diamond and obtain the Runestones.

Place the runestones in the Seal of the Earth to free Blacklash and Hematus.

Slay them and return Blacklash's Bindings, the Chains of Hematus, and the Sign of the Earth to Garek.
Blacklash's Bindings
Chains of Hematus
Sign of the Earth
Provided Item:
Sign of the Earth

Description

It has become obvious that we cannot ensure that Blacklash and Hematus will remain imprisoned in Lethlor. That black dragons have taken up residence there, and that the ogres managed to steal the Sign indicates that more drastic measures will have to be taken.

The drakes' prison is maintained by three runestones that may only be retrieved using the Sign of the Earth. Those runestones can then be used to break the seal which imprisons them.

<name>... assure that their dreams are eternal.

Reward

You can choose one of these awards:
Blazewind Breastplate
Prismscale Hauberk
Warforged Chestplate
Mindburst Medallion

Progress

Strong magics and powers held the drakes' prison for so long, but we cannot allow any possibility that Blacklash and Hematus may be released.

Completion

No longer will the Kirin Tor need to worry over the prisoners of Lethlor. I will return to report success to my master. Krasus will no doubt be pleased.

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 590 experience (35 40 at max. level)
  • 350 Reputation with Stormwind

Pillars are fairly easy to get to and find. Shouldn't have to fight any elites to get your runestones. Their locations are as follows:

Pillar of Amethyst: 81,63
Pillar of Opal: 72,66
Pillar of Diamond: 83,33

You then use the Seal of the Earth located at 81,49. I suggest clearing a couple of the elite dragons from around the Seal as it spawns two level 50 elite dragons.

Just killed these guys with two 46s (rogue and druid). Not easy, but doable.

Separating them is easy: just summon and immediately run away until they turn back (like any mob). Speed helps to avoid getting hit, I suppose. Once they're both summoned and just sitting around the obelisk, just pull and only one should come.

Both drakes are immune to stun, entangling roots and hibernate. Kick wasn't interrupting their dragon breath, either, though it works on the nearby elites.

We used love fools (target dummies) to allow the druid to heal himself, along with barkskin and harm prevention belt.

This is the best quest in the game for getting level 57 armor on your level 40 character. Since it's such a high level, you can even put BC armor patches on it, such as Knothide Armor Kit.

Soloed as a level 50 Frost Mage.

Blacklash ability: Flame Breath - Frontal Cone AoE - he'll cast it even if you move out of range. Make good use of this.

Hematus ability: Flame Buffet - Does fire damage and increases fire damage taken by an amount. Stacks

If you're trying to kite these two, keep in mind that they can be pulled seperately, run slightly faster than normal runspeed, and hit fairly hard. (I was crit for 850)

If you're trying this as a Frost Mage (fire won't be able to, as they are fire-immune) here are some tips.

Always try to keep Ice Barrier up, to avoid being crushed

Make use of blink, you should be able to blink far enough ahead to get one frostbolt off before running.

Use your water elemental twice, once after a cold snap. He'll be doing a whole lot of damage while you kite.

Try and bounce the drake between you and your elemental via Ice Blocking.

I found Blacklash to be slightly easier. Good luck!

Soloed as a 47 bm hunter without much trouble, just keep mend pet up all the time, and have it trained up with avoidance to reduce the flame breath damage.

Immune to concussion shot and i assume also scatter shot and frost traps though i didn't test them.

I just did this quest with a fire mage (50 and myself) and a holy paladin (level 52) was easy bit slow ... we cleared the 43-45 elite mobs and then summond, then ran away and then pulled them 1 by 1... very easy imo

Solo'd painlessly as a lvl48 enhancement shammy. Took out two of the elite guards, popped the gems, popped ghostwolf and ran away. When the named dragons spawned, pulled them one by one (earth shock interrupts their flame breath) and killed them. Very simple indeed, the elite guardians are harder than the dragons themselves.

Even though the dragons are no longer elite, Blacklash still uses a flamebreath attack which deals 500 damage, and cannot be interrupted. However, now that his hitpoints and melee damage have been drastically reduced, it shouldn't pose a significant problem.

Hematus uses Flame Buffet, which starts off doing low damage, but puts a stacking debuff increasing fire damage taken by 60 or so. However, since he dies quickly, this won't cause a major headache, as long as you pull them seperately.

Managed to down them with relative ease as a level 48 warrior. The plate chestpiece is nice, unless you're severely lacking stamina already.

Just solo'd this as a 44 'lock spec'd in demonology. Take one at a time, keep shadow cursing/afflicting them (they're immune to fire spells and fear, at least at my level) and keep health funneling your voidwalker. Make sure that the voidwalker has full mana when you go into battle, otherwise the dragon will start attacking YOU. I almost died learning that.

Good lord. The 43 elites around them are harder.

Approximately 2k hp each and can be pulled individually if you run as soon as you complete quest.

Didn't even bother getting health back between them.

Done as 52 arms warrior, DW.

Soloed these two with my rogue. Approach the pillar from the east side, as none of the surrounding elites path there. Both are immune to stuns (no cheap or kidney shots) and mind-numbing poison, and melee for up to 110 per hit (unmitigated) in addition to their specials.

Hilariously, now that the two dragons are no longer elite, the elite mobs that surround their pillar are actually tougher. If you can kill those elite mobs, you can do this quest easily. Just click the pillar, turn away, click confirm and run. You'll only aggro one of the dragons and can take them out seperately.

Solo'd this as a level 49 feral druid. It was a lot easier than I thought. Simply clear a few elite dragons around before you summon the dragons. The dragons summoned are not elite and have around 2k HP each. Easy.

Soloed as a 45 Ret Pally.

Fire Resistance Aura, Blessing of Kings and Seal of Judgement for the elites. Judgement of Light as often as possible. When I needed healing, I'd use either Hammer of Justice or Repentance, and then step back and heal a few times. When they got stunned, I'd Flash of Light. Once the area was relatively clear, I activated the tower, bubbled, then ran like heck until I lost aggro.

Fighting the big two was similar to the elites, but they're immune to stun, so I switched to Seal of Light for the extra healing. Pulled them individually with Hand of Reckoning. (Watch that 30 yards. It may not seem like much, but it can be the difference between pulling one, and ending up as lunch.) Used Judgement of Light as often as I could. When I got low on health, I'd either bubble, or spam Flash of Light a few times.

Nearly aggroed an elite while I was fighting Hematus, but I was able to shift the fight over a little bit. Had to use one mana pot in the second fight, but otherwise, there wasn't much trouble.

Soloed as lvl 43 feral druid in greens, self-buffed.

Clear an area of elites and when you spawn the bosses start moving backwards in your area. The flame breath is melee range and I found out I often didn't get the damage because the bosses stood a bit further back before closing in again.

This was just the amount of time needed for enough energy for the next combo builder and the white damage loss was compensated by only having to switch forms twice to heal before Blacklash was dead [also used Lifeblood to compensate for the melee hits I was still getting]. Healed to full and then switched to Hematus.

The reward was pretty sweet for a lvl 43. Definitely not vendor trash. :D

Soloed as a 43 fury warrior with 4 blues, 1 epic and 2 heirlooms. Used the tactic mentioned above - spawn the mobs and then run from them, go back when they've stopped chasing and take them one at a time. Piece of *!@#, though my gear is somewhat decent for my level. Great chestpiece reward, but didn't use it because of the heirloom. Damn.
