Description

So then, Hollee... oh that's right, you are not Hollee. Where's Hollee?

Bah, that's beside the point. We must find that stone brush... I mean the mysterious fossil! We must find that fossil. The Explorers' League in Darnassus will want some indication as to what I've been doing.

Let me know when you are ready and we will hunt down that brush.... I mean fossil! We shall find something in writing to satisfy the League.

So are you ready yet?

Progress

Is the prospector alive?

Completion

Thank the stars Prospector Remtravel is safe! I told you he was absent minded. I can't believe he insisted on staying there with all of those horrible creatures lurking about.

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 195 experience (11 70 at max. level)
  • 350 Reputation with Darnassus

This can be a little tough, I would suggest at least a couple other people for help. The prospector walks all the way through the ruins pulling everything, including things that spawn if he passes. All of the creatures are at least level 18, you will be dealing with at least three at a time. Also he has very low life and can be killed easily, make sure he doesn't get hit too often. As hard as it is I would definatly do this quest, it leads to a series that gives great exp and rewards.

Mage / Druid combo is the way that I did this one. The mage went ahead and cleared mobs before the prospector aggroed them, and I (druid) stayed on the prospector to heal. I'd throw a small heal on the mage every once in a while. Also buffed the prospector with MotW and thorns. He aggroed twice but I quickly took them off of him. Real easy to do.

Make sure you let the prospector walk first, or else the Golems will agro on you instead of him. He will not stop to help you like most Escort quests, but move along instead. It's vital that you let him go first. Also, he is healable, so his health shouldn't be a problem if you can heal or use a bandage on him.

This quest can be soloed as long as you know what to expect and can be prepared for it. I just pulled it off with a level 21 mage. I wouldn't recommend trying to solo this before 20. This quest is easily done with two people, but if you're stuck on your own, I hope this helps get you through it.

First, note that Remtravel is indeed oblivious. He will not attack unless he is personally aggroed first, otherwise he will keep walking the scripted route. Mobs attacking you are not his concern. Mobs you aggro yourself will be ignored as well. If you let him lead, he will draw the initial aggro and stop. This can be useful if you need a few seconds to catch your breath, but don't leave him alone too long -- he can't solo these mobs and he can't withstand too much punishment from them. If more than one mob is on him, you need to intervene quickly. AoE attacks are useful here, as he rarely accumulates much threat and any decent damage will get the mobs onto you instead.

Second, avoid the use of snares (Frost Nova, Entangling Roots, etc). If you snare and attempt to pull back for a more opportune attack, the mobs will drop threat on you and switch to something else in melee range -- Remtravel.

Now to tell you what to expect, besides the golems infesting the whole place.

When you begin the escort, there are a couple tents straight ahead and a ramp and scaffold along the right side. Remtravel will eventually walk up that ramp. This cues a single trogg to spawn. This trogg always seems to ignore Remtravel and go for you, so be prepared to dispatch it quickly so Remtravel doesn't get too far ahead of you.

Shortly after this, he will investigate Hollee's tent (he will comment ""Oh, that's Hollee's tent, and it's empty"") Two troggs will spawn from the back right corner of the camp and go for Remtravel.

Now he will start walking down into the more open area of the dig site. At the far end, straight ahead, is another ramp and scaffold, with a small hill to the left. Remember this spot.

His path will take him down into the dig site, to the left and back around the other side of the wall to the dead end, then turn around and start heading back out to the start point. On his way out, he will investigate that ramp and scaffold I mentioned earlier. When he does, this will trigger two troggs to spawn on the hill to the left, one of them being a caster that likes Fireball. The caster will drop Remtravel in two shots, so you need to draw its aggro immediately. Personally I stood on the hill and cast Fire Blast on it while it was spawning. Even so, it will get one Fireball off on Remtravel before switching to you (both troggs aggro Remtravel immediately upon spawning), so you also need to get the melee trogg off of him and then take them both down before they manage to kill you instead.

If you get past this, you're pretty much clear, you just have to get him back to the front, past the few golems that have respawned, but those should be easy compared to what you just did.

Hard to believe the Wowhead report that this guy has 410 HP. I'd honestly estimate that he has more like 200 at most, which is the main reason why anyone would find this quest difficult - if you don't immediately peel mobs off of him he'll die and it's over.

Clear the path of golems before starting this quest . The mobs have a very quick respawn rate so don't waste any time. Hybrid classes like Paladin, Shaman or Druid should be able to solo this quest at Lv 20 with mediocre equip. Keep in mind that Remtravel can be buffed and healed.

I managed to do it as a 17 priest. Key is to let Remtravel take as many hits as possible, because he can take it as long as you heal him. Make sure not to aggro any mobs yourself (Remtravel just lets them attack you and walks on), and try to stay low on threat by using renew and PW:S and wanding when possible. Sometimes you will have to aggro, but if you shield well you can take the mobs reasonably well.

Really easy quest, with good exp-reward. Solo'd as a 17 Druid. Just protect him until he stops walking (he stops walking out of the escavation point, where he was when you got the quest) and you should easily complete this one. Good luck! ^^

Holy crap this quest is hard. I just soloed this as a level 17 druid because I had no idea that I was doing a level 20 group quest when I started it.

NOTE: I died TWICE during this and I was able to run back to my corpse in time to heal this idiotic dwarf up and keep the event active. How that is possible I'm not sure, being he's the squishiest NPC imaginable. But either way, if you die, don't go afk in frustration. Walk back first.

To add insult to injury, for all of those who experienced even the least bit of frustration with this quest - once you hear what Prospector Remtravel has to say at the end, you'll wish you could kill him yourself. After all, there IS a reason the quest is entitled, ""The Absent Minded Prospector"".

This quest was easier for me as a level 19 priest when I coupled it with the escort quest https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=5321 The Sleeper Has Awakened. The druid you're escorting here may constantly fall asleep, but he can easily tank any mob that's thrown at you here. Let Remtravel do the pulling, and throw a Shadow Word: Pain immediately. The druid will aggro and tank the mob for you. Then you can simply wand it to death.

If Remtravel pulls two mobs, you can let the druid tank one and either tank the other one yourself, or let the dwarf do it. (make sure to heal him when he's low)

I thought this would make the quest more challenging, but it proved to be easier for me. Mind the caster at the end though, you NEED to pull it immediately, because two spells will kill the dwarf, as mentioned above by ChairmanKaga. I was easily able to finish the other quest in time.

It was kinda easy as level 18 rogue. But I cleared area off those stone giants. Then accepted quest and he started going around looking for fossil. Then one lvl 18 mob spawned. Then he goes a little more around and one or two mobs spawned (cant remember) also lvl 18, that was easy too.

When we got at end of site 2 more mobs re-spawned, a caster and a melee. YOU MUST KILL CASTER FIRST! He shoots firebolts for around 100 dmg, and that's quite a lot (1/5 of my total hp lol) You should use feint on other mob if you are rogue, so he start attacking dwarf, and hopefully he will endure while you kill caster (in my case almost killed him :D).

Now you head back to start... Big stone giants that you killed at start will start re-spawning. Most important thing here is to let dwarf go in front of you! So he wont just pass battle when you aggro mob, when mob attacks him he will stand and fight. They almost got me in this last part but I made it. I had 75+ herbalism skill, so i had Lifebloom, I had Lesser Healing pot, and bandage. Tricky to pull off, but possible :)

Warning: Possible spoilers below!

Prospector Remtravel has following ""monologue"" during the escort:

""Ok, [Name], let's go find where I left that mysterious fossil. Follow me!""
""Now where did I put that mysterious fossil? Ah, maybe up there...""
""Hrm, nothing up here"".
""No mysterious fossil here...Ah, but my copy of Green Hills of Stranglethorn. What a good book!""
""I bet you I left it in the tent!""
""Oh wait, that's Hollee's tent...and it's empty"".
""Interesting... I hadn't noticed this earlier...""
""Oh wait! I'm supposed to be looking for that mysterious fossil!
""Nope, didn't leave the fossil back here!""
Ah, I remember now! I gave the mysterious fossil to Hollee! Check with her"".

If under attack:
""Help me! This [NPC] won't get off of me!""
""Oh my! What's this? Help!""
""Something tells me this [NPC] wants mysterious fossil too. Help!""

I just soloed this quest on my non twink lvl 23 nelf warrior. A little tip, if your unsure just let Remtravel walk ahead of you and get aggroed, but make sure he gets hit to and then he'll start fighting. If you hit the mobs before they hit him he'll just keep on walking. Also you can try to clear out the rock creatures first but they are on a quick respawn time so you'll still get a couple.

Confirmed it's bugged. He gets to the point where he says ""It's Hollee's tent, and it's empty"", then just freezes in place. Two Gravelflint Scouts appear nearby but don't attack, and appear to be stuck as you get Evaded if you try to attack them. A few seconds later Remtravel disappears and the quest fails.

I put a ticket in asking if this was a known bug, described everything perfectly and the response I got was ""Class specific quests are being removed and unfortunately some of the starter quests are still accessible. Sorry for any problems this may cause in your adventures...blah blah""

I had the same issue as others, about 10 seconds later he shows up to the left of the path about 5-10 ft ahead of where he bugs.

While still currently bugged, if you are having trouble finding him, or keeping him alive on a low level character, kill the golems to the east past the arch near where he bugs while he is standing still, you can also put a raid mark on him, or keep him targeted as he doesn't despawn when he ""teleports"" to his new location

This quest has indeed been fixed, and is not nearly as difficult now. All he does is walk around the little flooded valley, aggro a few mobs which are very easy to kill if you're level 18+ and run back to the same camp. Dialogue:

Prospector Remtravel says: Superb! Gather your strength, whats-your-face. We've got a long way to travel.

Prospector Remtravel says: Ready? Let's move!

Prospector Remtravel says: The ruins you see here are identical to ones I dug up a few months
ago, but they're flooded! Curious, eh?

Prospector Remtravel says: Ah, we're almost there, whos-yer-face! The camp where I left my notes is just around the corner!

Prospector Remtravel says: By the three hammers, will you look at that! More ruins!

Prospector Remtravel says: These ruins I found are IDENTICAL to the ones I just left! It's the find of a lifetime!

Archaeologist Groff says: You big duffer, these ARE the same ruins. You're wandering in circles again.

Prospector Remtravel says: Nonsense. See? Here's my journal, right here.

Prospector Remtravel says: What do you make of this Ferd?

And that's pretty much when I handed the quest in. When you/Remtravel aggros mobs, he will also say things like:

""Who dug up this <mob name>, anyways?""
""Oh my! What's this? Help!""
""<Mob name>! Help!""
