Bring 1 Deeprock Salt and 5 gold coins to any Holly Preserver machine, upon which you will receive 5 Preserved Holly.

Listen... I'm not really supposed to be telling you this, but since you're the hero of the day and all...

There's fresh holly everywhere this time of the year, but it never lasts. We've got a machine that preserves holly - it never goes bad! We use it to spice up the holiday... and profits during the summer!

I'll let you use the preserver, but only if you're a master cook. You'll need some deeprock salt and two, three, oh let's say five gold. It'll net you a nice batch that's yours to keep.

I don't recall if this quest is repeatable, but it becomes available to Horde & Alliance after you complete the quests to free Metzen the Reindeer.

Also note the quest text states you must be a master level cook in order to complete this quest. 5g + 1 Deeprock Salt will give you 5 Preserved Holly... thats the kind that never expires and can be used year round.

It should be noted that turning in https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=8762 Metzen the Reindeer nets you 5g 70s at lvl 70 so in completing this the goblins are getting most of their money back.

Those crafty goblins!

Doing this does not require Fresh Holly from Winter Revelers. Also, I was able to do this quest at 357 Cooking.

Also you should mention you need to be a master cook in order to get this quest, says so in the quest log but it can be easily missed

The quest helper says that you have to slay https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=12057 Garr for the https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=8150 Deeprock Salt.

However, I started working my way through and slayed https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=9025 Lord Roccor and picked up the https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=8150 Deeprock Salt that I needed.

So not necessary to go into the https://vanillawowdb.com/?zone=2717 Molten Core for this quest. https://vanillawowdb.com/?zone=1584 Blackrock Depths is quite ok it seems.

In Ironforge, the Holly Preserver machine is at 37.3, 70.5, behind the Smokywood Pastures wagon near the doorway leading to the Great Forge. If you are close enough you can see the ""?"" on your mini-map.

Both https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=8746 Metzen the Reindeer (Orgrimmar) and https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=8762 Metzen the Reindeer (Ironforge) count towards https://vanillawowdb.com/?achievement=978 3000 Quests Completed, and both can be done regardless of what faction you are.

Correspondingly, both follow-up quests https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=8799 The Hero of the Day (Orgrimmar) and https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=8763 The Hero of the Day (Ironforge) also count towards https://vanillawowdb.com/?achievement=978 3000 Quests Completed.

I have compleated the quest Metzen the raindeer . https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=8762 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=8762 . I can't, however, start the quest Hefo of the day https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=8763 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=8763 . Any ideas?

Is there any reputation bump or other reward given for this quest? If not I can't see much point in wasting the deeprock salt or 5 gold to get something that really has no value.

This quest requires 300 cooking skill (maxed Artisan, Master not required) and is neutral.

Badlands and Arathi are not dropping anymore, I killed hundreds and got none. However, I found that https://vanillawowdb.com/?zone=1337 Uldaman IS dropping. I ran it once from the front to find the back entrance, now at 58,36. I reset and then cleared the back elemental area and final boss only. Between the two runs, I netted 14. They sell for 15g on my AH right now (because of the festival) so I posted mine at 10g and they sold within 5 minutes. So, if you can handle the level 39/40 elite elementals in Uldaman's back entrance, its a good source and close to Iron Forge those Alliance characters.

I spent about 2 hours trying to find this salt.
After receiving:
24 Mithril Ore
14 Solid Stone
37 Shattered Rock Fragments
25 Inert Elemental Shard
35 Pretty Pebble
1 Thorium Ore
20 Colorful Rock....
I finally found ONE!
That was in Searing, by killing one of the Heavy War Golem and after looting - MINE HIM.
I was erlier in Badlands trying out the stone elementals... but they are no good...

Hard to get, waste of time really....

Confirming you can get these from Heavy War Golem in Searing. Killed about 8 and mined each 1 and got 1 deeprock salt.

It appears this quest has been removed for Christmas 2011. =( At least, I'm no longer offered it after completing the Metzen daily.

READ FOR: Winter Veil 2011.

FYI. I think since 4.3 you are no longer able to make Preserved Holly using the quest ""The Hero of the Day"". Either its glitched, or was simply removed and no one has caught on yet.

I've spent hours in trade chat offering 1000g on my server, Aszune to anyone that can tell me the new, ""post 4.3"" method of making Preserved Holly and not one, single person has been able to tell me. Most don't even know what the difference is when I link them in trade chat. So here goes:

Preserved Holly
NOT Soulbound
1 time use, lasts 1 hour.
Can be used any time of year.
Unless its a glitch, very limited supply now, kinda like Haunted Memento. No more are being created therefore, over time... will be very valuable. (I could be wrong though, need to check with Blizz GM and have already submitted a ticket, will update this later)

Fresh Holly
SOULBOUND
1 time use, lasts 1 hour.
Can only be used during winter veil.
I believe these will disappear from your bags after winter veil is over, not 100% sure.

So you do the math. Rich players that feel like sporting a reindeer mount mid July when no one else can will be able to. Again, I could be wrong but my suggestion: Sell them or save them to sell on AH later on. Currently selling for 1500g each on my server.

PS. Can someone factually confirm or deny if you can still make them somewhere, somehow? Key word, factually. Not, ""I heard from someone that got one in a quest""...etc.
