Hunting for Ectoplasm

Use the Ectoplasmic Distiller near incorporeal undead to collect 12 Scorched Ectoplasms in Silithus, 12 Frozen Ectoplasms in Winterspring and 12 Stable Ectoplasms in the Eastern Plaguelands. Bring them along with the Ectoplasmic Distiller back to Mux Manascrambler in Gadgetzan.

Description

A fine piece of engineering, if I do say so myself! You will need to travel a bit, I'm afraid, in order to find the incorporeal undead we require.

You see, different climates lend different consistencies to the spectral fabric of the dead. The tortured night elves of Silithus, the spirits of the highborne from Winterspring and the ghosts and banshees of the Eastern Plaguelands should give us the different types of ectoplasm we need. Be sure to place the distiller nearby before you harvest them!

While you are at Winterspring buy Fel Elemental Rod from https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=16015 https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=16015 cause you need it in the last part.

Find a spot where you can pull the mobs and start by eliminating the trash mobs. Start to kill the mobs you are interested in and during the first fight near the end, drop the distiller (by right clicking it in your bag).

Pull the mobs to the distiller so that you can get as many as possible because the distiller despawns after a few minutes. Goblin rocket fuel isn't cheap and you only start out with 8. If you need more, you have to obtain it yourself.

It took 10 rocket fuel for me. 4 - in Winterspring.
In Winterspring its hard to find needed mobs, farmers are there even at 06:00 server time.
In Silithus i could easily solo as 60 druid, you might as well take quest The Spirits of Southwind https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=1125 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=1125 since you will be killing same mobs. When these spirits die theres a quite tough bug spawning.

i find it amazing that the prior comments fail to make a few critical points:

1. you have to have both the mob and yourself inside the radius of the distiller when the mob dies.

2. you have to loot the mob immediately or the ecto crap will be gone.

The distiller has a 5 minute duration once placed, and collects spirits in a 13 yard radius. See the spell used by the item for more detail.

The distiller can be planted after you've pulled the ghosts or are in combat. This kind of tactic saves alot of time(duration on the distiller) .

9550 exp gained at lvl 61.

also, i have found that if you collect Stable Ectoplasm around 61.66ish there are 6 or 7 Hate Shriekers that respawn rather quickly. I only used 1 drop of the distiller.

The mobs you have to kill are:

Silithus: (around 62,52)and/orWinterspring: (around 52,42)and/or
Eastern Plaguelands: (around 60,68 or 77,51 or 71,35)and/orand/orand/orand/orGood luck with the rest of the quest line!

The drop rate of the ectoplasm's isn't as low as mentioned here on wowhead, it's 100% when the mobs are 13 yards (or less) near the Ectoplasmic Distiller.

Stable Ectoplasm:

The easiest place to collect these, for me, was in Northdale (at approximately 66 26, Eastern Plaguelands). As a hunter, I could almost rotate and shoot all of the mobs I needed (https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=8542 Death Singers and https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=8539 Eyeless Watchers). I experienced a 100% drop, from all mobs, while maintaining the Ectoplasmic Distiller's buff. You may have to hit a mob and then back up, until you have the buff on you again.

Definitely Northdale. I did this at 80 for loremaster and you can plant your distiller next to the gallows platform in the middle of the village and drag them up to five at a time to you. Did it all on one rocket fuel.

Might be harder at the level intended simply because you can get up to five mobs at a time on the first pull if you aren't careful.

I had a bit of fun with the distiller after I had some goblin rocket fuel left over. The distiller can be placed anywhere in the world, so I thought about placing it in front of the Ironforge bank just to see people reactions of the object, even some lvl 80s were a bit confused. :P

The Silithus collection for ectoplasm was easy. I installed the machine in the centre of the village, and kited the souls, got around 9 in my first try. The second time I used it on the top of the slope and kited 3 more.

The Eastern Plaguelands souls were a tough nuts, I got around 8 near the Light's Hope Chapel and remanining 4 at Corin's crossing.

Winterspring also was not as hard, just kited 9 souls in the first try and remaining 3 in the next.

Still has one rocket fuel remaining.

Didnt realize that i had all the rocket fuel in the bag from the other quest, and, after getting %^&amp;*ed off and flying around, i eventually noticed the bag and got the fuels out of it...

Long story short, pay attention to your quests, or feel like an idiot.

Also, the ectoplasms were very easy, once i figured out that I had the fuels...
Only took 3 drops of the device total, and, I got to save the rest to pop in cities, and stand around looking cool.

I was so upset that the bag only had 8, and must have spent 100g+ getting the rest of the fuels...all 36 of them. Then I read up on wowhead that you can use the distiller for more than one mob.

I just did the Silithus one today and one use of the device lasted until I got all 12 ectoplasms. It seems like they've upped the limit it lasts now, because I didn't pull them very quickly and the mobs were certainly spread far apart. Hopefully this is true in the two other areas, Winterspring and EPL. Happy Hunting.

I just did this quest at lvl 80, used 4 fuels alltogether. If it wasnt for a crit from a dot leading to a death outside the machines range in winterspring i would've done it on 3 fuels. So noone doing this quest should ever need to farm for more fuel than the 8 that you get for free.
