Traitor to the Bloodsail

Additional requirements to obtain this quest:
  • Your reputation with Booty Bay must be lower than Neutral

Progress

That mangy dog, Revilgaz, has offered to pardon any former Bloodsails willing to turn on their cap'n! That bilge sucker asked me to go an' off me ole' mates and to bring back their bandannas as proof.

I don't have it in me heart to do that, nor will I ask ye to. Bring me some silk cloth and red dye and I'll make suitable replicas. I'll tell the Baron you went turncoat, but be warned... the Bloodsails are not gonna like it!

If you have 0/36000 with all Steamwheedle factions you will need to do this quest 144 times to become neutral again. (250 rep for each faction outside of Booty Bay)

To become neutral with goblins again:

  • 144 turn-ins = 288 stacks of silk = 5760 silk cloth

No matter how much I liked the ""lawless life of Stranglethorn and beyond"", it's really annoying to have those elite guards running in your heels every sunday at the fishing extravaganza.

But I seem to get some odd replies whenever I say ""WTB 288 Stacks of Silk Cloth"" :|

an easy way to do this for engineers who decide to buy the cloth from the AH is to bring a long a Moll-E

then all you have to do is stuff your bags full of the dyes and your g2g

So if the hat is all that is needed for the Bloodsail portion of the achievement, couldn't you just continue to turn in silk until neutral with the goblins and save yourself a bunch of time? I was under the impression that you had to meet all of the criteria at the same time for the Insane title in order to actually get the achievement.

The cloth turn in is effected by https://vanillawowdb.com/?spell=24705 https://vanillawowdb.com/?spell=24705 during Hallow End.

This bumps the experience for Booty Bay to 550 and the others to 275. Bloodsail still only goes down by 500.

Optimal Reputation Repair

For those of you looking to use as few mats as possible to repair your goblin reputation with all four factions in the most efficient manner possible, given current auction house prices, it is most cost-efficient to essentially just go in order -- turn in all the linen you need to get neutral with the first faction, all the silk to get neutral with the second, then all the runecloth to get neutral with the third, then all the mageweave to get neutral with the fourth.

I was thinking about this and whether there was any way to find a more optimal approach. The idea is that turning in cloth for one faction in addition raises rep with all the other factions as well, albeit at a smaller rate, so maybe by not maxing out each faction right away, we could save money

For each faction, one turn in yields 500 rep for that faction's particular cloth quest . That same turn in also gives 250 rep for all the others, so the problem we wish to solve is to get more than 42,000 rep with the following constraints:

* Once neutral is reached in any faction, no more turn ins for that faction can occur.

* At the end, each faction must have at least 42,000 rep (neutral).

* We want to minimize the total amount of gold spent on cloth at the AH.

To solve this problem, I wrote a MATLAB script to determine a ""rep vector"" whose four elements are the reputations with each faction at the end. Inside, there is simply a for loop that takes in a ""turn in vector"" whose elements are the number of turn ins for each faction. When rep with a certain faction exceeds 42,000, no reputation is awarded for further turn ins, which accounts for the constraint that the quest cannot be done at that point.

It goes through and allocates reputation linen first, then silk, then runecloth, then mageweave, since in my auction house on Cairne at the time, this was the order from least to most expensive, so the answer likely will decrease the number of turn ins as the expense per stack gets higher.

I used the following prices for a 20x stack of cloth:
Linen Cloth: 1.5 g

Silk Cloth: 4.5 g

Runecloth: 6 g

Mageweave: 31 g

These prices are basically in line with the normalized price of a 20x stack output from Auctioneer on 2009/12/22 on the Cairne realm, alliance side.

I then used a simulated annealing routine to essentially throw in semi-random turn in vectors and compute their cost. If the total rep vector did not equal or exceed 42,000 in each of its entries, the cost function would return an arbitrarily high cost (meaning it is not a solution).

The results I obtained for the optimal turn in amounts were:

Linen Cloth: 168 stacks (84 turn ins)

Silk Cloth: 84 stacks (42 turn ins)

Runecloth: 40 stacks (20 turn ins)

Mageweave: 22 stacks (11 turn ins)

This is essentially the turn in routine you would use above, with one tiny change -- use only 20 turn ins of Runecloth instead of the 21 you need to get neutral right away. With the above turn in numbers, this comes out to 1,552 gold total. With the simpler strategy of maxing out neutral immediately, after the 21 turn-ins of Runecloth, you still need to do 11 turn-ins of Mageweave, which gives a total cost of 1,564 gold.

So technically there is a more optimal solution to gaining your reputation back, but it only saves you twelve gold and if the prices for the mats on your AH are hugely distorted from the values I used (specifically for the mageweave), then it won't apply. But if they're close, then you could save twelve gold. Woot.

Anyway, I thought I would post this so that others who are curious about this question can find out and not spend the time to actually compute it all out, resting peacefully knowing that they're getting the most goblin rep bang for their gold.

Good luck!

What I did is Killing the Bloodsail NPC's that give you rep and drop the Silk cloth. So I went in a routine Of starting at the Bloodsail Compound thats right below the Gurubashi Arena, to the camp with ""Pretty Boy"" Duncan, around to The area with the Bloodsail Traitor to shore of Bloodsail camp, around to the Ships and right back To the Bloodsail Traitor which By then I end up with 40silk cloth that I can turn in for Rep, then right back to the same route. When my inventory is getting a little full or I run out of red dye there is a NPC ""Cowardly Crosby"" who sales red dye right there in the middle of the Bloodsail camp to sale my junk or load up!

REP
Bloodsail-
Swashbuckler, warlock, raiders, magnus, deckhands, swabbys, and seasdogs give you 5/6 Rep with Bootybay and 2/3 for the others. Loosing -25 BloodS.

Gar Salthoof, Captain Keelhaul, IronPatch, Fleet Master Firallom, Brutus, Captain Stillwater, and ""Pretty Boy"" Duncan Give you around 27/28 rep for BootyBay and 13/14 Rep for the other fractions, loosing -125 BloodS.

The mobs respond time is pretty quick only a couple mins. While the Greater ones like Brutus is around 5/10min respond time.

Note that this quest is not available anymore once you start doing the new 4.1 Zandalari quest chains. I am finding out the hard way that if you want to become un-hated with the goblins of Booty Bay, you need to get that done before doing these quest chains. Otherwise, the NPC simply isn't there, even after finishing every single quest (not an easy task since one of the quests ends in the middle of BB).

Made the mistake of doing the 4.1 quest while still hated with BB and the rest of the cartel, now no one to turn the cloth and red dye into and killing the pirates in Lost Rigger Cove is only adding to my hated status. Any ideas on how to repair rep now, pain in the neck can't go to any of the goblin towns, regret doing the bloodsail admiral quest, totally useless except for the title, which again gains nothing.

I too, am in a position where I was UNFRIENDLY with BB and could turn in the Bwemba's spirirt quest, but now i cant see pirates to kill to gain my rep back. The Bloodsail traitor is NOT available for me to turn in and I cant kill pirates in STV, so I guess im going back to Tanaris to grind pirates the hard way. Will these pirates return and phase back for me? Because I was grinding them in STV for a while, hoping for a Macaw... :( Failz.. Damn rep grind sucks

This quest giver was available for me on 1/14/2012; I have completed the Bwemba's Spirit quest line. Confirmed he gives rep for Steamwheedle Cartel factions (550 Booty Bay, 275 Everlook, 275 Gadgetzan, and 275 Ratchet with lvl 25 guild bonus) and only -500 to Bloodsail.
Best place for me to farm cloth was Blackhoof Village in north Dustwallow Marsh.
