A useful quest if you suddenly realize farming Bloodsail rep wasn't such a good idea, or if decided one day to go on an rampage in Booty Bay or Tanaris. It can be obtained from the NPC https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=16418 Mupsi Shacklefridd, just outside of Ratchet. It's far enough outside the boundaries of the city that you won't aggro guards by approaching, but be careful, because if you go too close guards will spawn to (try to) kill you.

You can pick up the vials from the Crossroads, and you can farm tons of Linen in the Barrens, or buy it from levelers as they should be getting tons themselves.

If you are completely hated with all Steamweedle factions you need to turn in the following amounts of stacks:

Ratchet (Non-Human): 168 Stacks of Linen and 336 Empty Vials will get you to Neutral.
Ratchet (Human): 152 Stacks of Linen and 304 Empty Vials will get you to Neutral.

Thank you Wowhead for having this quest!
It saved my dream of ""The Merrymaker""
Lets leave it at, as a mage cooking wasn't important until i needed 325 to make eggnog for the achievement. I was screwed because I grinded up bloodsail. Not in the modd for 1rep/kill in tanaris for the cooking quest there, this saved my dream.

And thank you for the helpful advice

If buying the Linen Cloth from the Auction House isn't an option (for whatever reason), then slaughtering Southsea Freebooters is the way to go. They're all over the place just south of Ratchet, they drop loads of linen, they now award +5 Ratchet rep per kill (+25 for Baron Longshore!) and they respawn almost instantly! Two birds, one stone.

Of course, the same goes for the Southsea Freebooters and Wastewander bandits in Tanaris and the Bloodsail Buccaneers in Stranglethorn Vale. As far as I know, nothing gives Winterspring reputation just from kills though.

It's... it's almost as if Blizzard planned this! *gasps*

Optimal Reputation Repair

For those of you looking to use as few mats as possible to repair your goblin reputation with all four factions in the most efficient manner possible, given current auction house prices, it is most cost-efficient to essentially just go in order -- turn in all the linen you need to get neutral with the first faction, all the silk to get neutral with the second, then all the runecloth to get neutral with the third, then all the mageweave to get neutral with the fourth.

I was thinking about this and whether there was any way to find a more optimal approach. The idea is that turning in cloth for one faction in addition raises rep with all the other factions as well, albeit at a smaller rate, so maybe by not maxing out each faction right away, we could save money

For each faction, one turn in yields 500 rep for that faction's particular cloth quest . That same turn in also gives 250 rep for all the others, so the problem we wish to solve is to get more than 42,000 rep with the following constraints:

* Once neutral is reached in any faction, no more turn ins for that faction can occur.

* At the end, each faction must have at least 42,000 rep (neutral).

* We want to minimize the total amount of gold spent on cloth at the AH.

To solve this problem, I wrote a MATLAB script to determine a ""rep vector"" whose four elements are the reputations with each faction at the end. Inside, there is simply a for loop that takes in a ""turn in vector"" whose elements are the number of turn ins for each faction. When rep with a certain faction exceeds 42,000, no reputation is awarded for further turn ins, which accounts for the constraint that the quest cannot be done at that point.

It goes through and allocates reputation linen first, then silk, then runecloth, then mageweave, since in my auction house on Cairne at the time, this was the order from least to most expensive, so the answer likely will decrease the number of turn ins as the expense per stack gets higher.

I used the following prices for a 20x stack of cloth:
Linen Cloth: 1.5 g

Silk Cloth: 4.5 g

Runecloth: 6 g

Mageweave: 31 g

These prices are basically in line with the normalized price of a 20x stack output from Auctioneer on 2009/12/22 on the Cairne realm, alliance side.

I then used a simulated annealing routine to essentially throw in semi-random turn in vectors and compute their cost. If the total rep vector did not equal or exceed 42,000 in each of its entries, the cost function would return an arbitrarily high cost (meaning it is not a solution).

The results I obtained for the optimal turn in amounts were:

Linen Cloth: 168 stacks (84 turn ins)

Silk Cloth: 84 stacks (42 turn ins)

Runecloth: 40 stacks (20 turn ins)

Mageweave: 22 stacks (11 turn ins)

This is essentially the turn in routine you would use above, with one tiny change -- use only 20 turn ins of Runecloth instead of the 21 you need to get neutral right away. With the above turn in numbers, this comes out to 1,552 gold total. With the simpler strategy of maxing out neutral immediately, after the 21 turn-ins of Runecloth, you still need to do 11 turn-ins of Mageweave, which gives a total cost of 1,564 gold.

So technically there is a more optimal solution to gaining your reputation back, but it only saves you twelve gold and if the prices for the mats on your AH are hugely distorted from the values I used (specifically for the mageweave), then it won't apply. But if they're close, then you could save twelve gold. Woot.

Anyway, I thought I would post this so that others who are curious about this question can find out and not spend the time to actually compute it all out, resting peacefully knowing that they're getting the most goblin rep bang for their gold.

Good luck!

Regarding Ratchet reputation (without the https://vanillawowdb.com/?spell=78634"">(Spell #78634) buff):

The Southsea Freebooters are now on Fray Island located on the southeast tip of Northern Barrens.

https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=34750"">(NPC #34750) gives 25/12.5 rep. He respawns faster than the other mobs. Baron Longshore is gone.
https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=34747"">(NPC #34747) gives 0 rep. He also respawns faster than other mobs in the area.
https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=34804"">(NPC #34804) gives 5/2.5 rep.

I've noticed I get more wool cloth than linen cloth from Glomp and Cap'n Garvey.

I noticed there's two Ratchet Bruisers standing near Mupsi...she seems to be the only quest giver to repair goblin rep, that's standing near Bruisers. All the others are at a safe distance.Tell you more: they can and will attack you if their aggro radius is big enough. This is certainly not an issue for a mighty 85-lvl raider, but an unpleasant surprise for any fresh-made low-level Bloodsail Admiral like me :)
The bruisers at some distance to the right and to the left of Mupsi are going to make your shy attempts to settle the matter a slightly more interesting quest. There are several ways of dealing with this.

1. The boring way. Wait till you hit high level. As your hero gets more levels, aggro raius of the bruisers decreases. At some point you'll be able to turn in the quest without the danger of being shot, caught in the net and shot again.

That's just too boring for us, right?

2. The nifty way. Find (or bribe :) two players with their mighty 85-lvl characters. Your guildies, friends, anyone. The best pair is tank + healer. They need to attack and hold aggro of these two bruisers while you turn in the cloth. A little note here: there is actually no need to kill the bruisers, just to keep them busy long enough. This can be quite a fight since in Cata bruisers hit like small angry trains and use nets, yet any good tank and healer should be able to hold them at bay for five minutes.
And don't forget to sound the tactical retreat when needed :)

Little tips:
- Count your cloth before you go. You should be able to hit at least ""Unfriendly"" with Ratchet to prevent the bruisers from attacking (since then you can easily give your cloth without your ""escort group""). If you're lazy counting vials, grab a huge pile - they're cheap.
- When counting cloth take into consideration http://aowow.org/?spell=78635 Mr. Popularity guild buff. Also keep in mind https://vanillawowdb.com/?spell=20599 human racial bonus and http://aowow.org/?spell=24705 Hallow's End buff. There was https://vanillawowdb.com/?spell=61849 Pilgrim's Bounty buff last year, too. Holiday buff stacks with guild buff.
- Try to do it in one run. Clean up your inventory and load it with cloth and vials. You may also want to send yourself all the needed items by mail and ask an engineer to drop https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=40768 MOLL-E near Mupsi. Lucky goblin fellas can put their cloth in the bank and call their friend https://vanillawowdb.com/?spell=69046 Gobber instead. Goblin friendship FTW.
