Raene's Cleansing

Kill Ran Bloodtooth and 4 Bloodtooth Guards and return to Krolg near Lake Mystral.
  •
Ran Bloodtooth slain
  •
Bloodtooth Guard slain (4)
Provided Item:
Dartol's Rod of Transformation

Description

The night elves are as old as time, but their arrogance destroys their very world. And now it destroys our lives too. But that can no longer be controlled...

I blame the elves for much, but we are still responsible for our actions. Even beyond the corruption, we are capable of great evil.

Ran Bloodtooth is one such evil. Power hungry, lusting... the corruption has only made him stronger. My hatred for the elves burns, but I do not wish ill upon their children, so we must police our own.

Progress

Have you slain Ran yet, my friend?

Even the Night elves do not truly deserve his wrath. His hatred burns even brighter than my own, but his mind is no longer his own. He is a threat to all the natural creatures of this forest.

Completion

You have done well, my friend.

The forest is still tainted, but at least we know we have done a small part to return it to its former glory. If you wish to return to me again, I would enjoy the company of my own kind.

Be well. Perhaps our tribes will meet again under less violent times.

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 245 experience (14 70 at max. level)
  • 250 Reputation with Darnassus

You can find Ran at about 55,80. From the entrance of the path up to Krolg, keep going south along another path.

There are a fair few Bloodtooth Guards on the way up to Ran, so getting your four of those should be easy. He has one Guard that pulls with him, so make sure you clear the rest of the Guards out to give yourself some room. Be careful, though, they respawn very quickly.

Ran is a pushover once you get to him. Just focus on him and either CC the Guard, or let it hit away on you until Ran is down. Do not forget to loot Ran's head! Even though the quest from Krolg doesn't mention it, you need it to return to Raene and get your reward.

Soloable as a level 27 Shaman.

Quest would be very easy if not for the bloody Ghostpaws and Spiders sticking their nose's in. Very do-able (solo) as a level 30 Druid.

After completing Krolgs quest, don't accept next quest (return to Raene). You lose here your nice transformation rod if you complete next quest.
That saves 1 place in quest log. Have fun with rod. And you may destroy https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=5388 https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=5388 without losing rod.

There is a simple way to keep the rod: kill Ran Bloodtooth, turn in the quest to Krolg, then don't accept the final step. Voila, you keep the rod, and don't have to keep a quest in your log indefinitely. You may also destroy Ran's skull (without fear of losing the rod), which you will still have after not accepting the final step.

This quest is soloable as a Lvl 27 hunter.

Personally, the wolves and spiders were VERY annoying. There was a pair that came down from where Ran Bloodtooth is hiding. Be careful, as I aggroed them trying to kill two Guards, and ultimately, well, died. In short, kill all spiders and wolves ASAP.

Anyways, with careful thought, you can pull the guards one by one so as to not aggro any other guards. Then, it will just be Ran 'n' his Bodyguard. They will always attack together; any attempts to pull just one are futile. I put a Freezing Trap close to the pair. However, I accidentaly aggroed Ran. This was lucky :) My pet attacked Ran, but his guard ran towards the trap. Presto! Frozen Furbolg! I got some distance away from the ice age fossil and helped to finish off Ran. Then the guard. Unfortunately, for some reason, I couldn't loot Ran :/ (You need his skull to complete the series) I had to wait for him to respawn. That was alright. I just killed the Furbolgs all as they individually respawned. Finished Ran off by himself. :)

Very fun, fun, fun. Good XP. I ended up keeping the Rod ;D

Good Luck everyone! ^^

OK, I killed Ran, got his skull, my log said so, and I know I had it in my bag when I got back to Krolg. Turned in the return quest to Krolg, and the damn skull disappeared! Had to go back to Ran's camp and kill him again to get his skull and turn in the final to Raene. :?

For some reason he does not drop the skull on the first kill. You have to turn in the quest to the Furbolg first, then go back to kill Ran for the skull, which makes no sense, you have to kill the mob a 2nd time to get its skull. heh. Well, must be a bug, but not a bug that will necessary break your game, just a bit annoying.

This quest appears to be fixed now. When you kill Ran Bloodtooth the first time and hand that quest in, the skull is no longer removed from your inventory. So you don't have to kill him a second time to get another skull to hand in to Raene Wolfrunner for the followup.

Very easy as a Level 30 Priest. Bubbled up, targetted Ran then cast Holy Fire, Mind Blast, threw on Shadow Word: Pain and Devouring Plague, then just fought his guard that attacked me. Ran died about the same time as I managed to drop the guard. All while the bubble was on. Not too shabby.

Took me 12 attempts as a lvl 20 resto druid.

Eventually I realized that Maul does about 50 damage regardless of level and killed him by healing and popping form, healing and.......
