As of 2.3 if you abandon the quest while on the last step, The Rod will disappear....However if you talk to Raene Wolfrunner again she will have an option where you can say you lost your rod. Choose that and she will give you another Rod....Just did this 2 minutes ago. ^_^

The another questitem for quest https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=5388 https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=5388 is destroyable without risk to lose rod. You don't need next quest after completing Krolgs own quest.

There is already simple way to keep https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=5462 Dartol's Rod of Transformation without destroying anything.

As mentioned above; do https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=1045 Raene's Cleansing(10th step) and turn it. After successfully completed 10th step, Krolg will give you 11th step of chain. Just don't accept new step and keep rod.

Even if u get the skull first time around, u still have to kill the damn guy again for it.

I got the skull on the first kill, but when I tried to deliver it was gone again.
Had to run all the way back and kill him again. Be sure u have it in ur bag o_o
