Description

Naralex had a noble goal.

Our great leader aspired to enter the Emerald Dream and help regrow these harsh lands back into the lush forest it once was. But something went terribly wrong.

Naralex's dream turned into a nightmare and corrupt creatures began to inhabit the caverns.

While some Disciples of Naralex seek to awake our master, my concern is with ridding these caves of the evil beasts.

Brave the caverns, <name>, and eradicate the deviate spawn.

Reward

You can choose one of these awards:
Pattern: Deviate Scale Belt
Sizzle Stick
Dagmire Gauntlets
Also, you get: 25

Progress

<name>, we, the Disciples of Naralex, need your help. Our numbers are dwindling with our master trapped in his twisted nightmare. We have not the forces necessary to deal with the corrupt creatures which now haunt these caverns.

I beg of you, enter the caves and wage war on the deviate creatures!

Completion

As a Disciple of Naralex, I commend your bravery, <name>.

Your aid in ridding the caverns is the first step in our long plight to see the Barrens restored.

Thank you and may you prosper.

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 205 experience (12 30 at max. level)

To get to the quest giver, you have to get into the wailing caverns in a special way.
When facing the entrance to the instance, (while still outside of it, it should say you are in the barrens) you should see that the entrance looks like a face. The questgivers are in the left eye. To get there, climb up the mountain, drop onto the head, drop onto the brow, drop onto the nose, face the instance, and go into the eye on the left

The easiest way up on the mountain is starting @ 45.33 (northern side). There you can go up having no need to ""walljump"".

Here's how I did it:
Go in front of the summoning stone and there is a ""path"" leading up It looks like a T intersection. Make your way up, take your left, and you should see the ""top"" of the cave. . Look down and there's a ledge that looks like an arrow ^(aka the nosey). Jump on it, and face the other way. There are two ""eyes""(call them whatever you want). Jump on the Left one and if you made it, make your way in. There's 4 NPC's. You get two quests here. There's also a leatherworking trainer and a vendor who sells some things(mostly visited to buy the limited supplies of 2 deviate leatherworking plans).

For Deviate Eradication:
1. Deviate Ravagers- When you arrive in the instance, the first mobs are Deviate Ravagers/Guardians. If your group is after lady Anaconda, you'll find you are travelling in a huge circle above the ""river"" at the bottom. Usually you'll already have 7 kills already before you go down, so don't wry bout it too much.

Edit: They are pink raptors, while guardians are blue.
Also, don't stray away from your group just to pull these(if you are in a group)! Usually they'll have a Deviate Guardian with them, and when dying they'll give a shriek(emote), and Mobs near them will aggro you. The range is actually farther then you'd expect.

2. Deviate Vipers: When you get to the river, make your left. If you have a map of WC this will lead to Lord Cabrahn(fanglord). On your way, there are plenty of vipers. You should already have 7 kills before you reach him, so dont fret.

3. Deviate Shambler:
Back to the river. Instead of left, make your right. If you're looking at a map, this leads to the last 2 fanglords. There's a huge pool on the left, but that's for jumping after Verdan the Everling is killed. No point going there. Turn right again, past the crocs and up the ledge. There are LOTS of these, so dont' worry ""Plz kill all shamblers in sight, 7 kills is alot!""

4. Deviate Dreadfang:
IMO, these take the longest. These guys turn up after the third fanglord and on your way to Lord Serpentis. There should be 7, but kill all of them just in case. Sometimes, there are Deviate Venomfangs, but these are not the ones your looking for(they are green, and the dreadfangs are kind of blue-gray).

Hope this helped, and not too long

It does also count towards Loremaster of Kalimdor.

This quest is flagged incorrectly--it is available to Alliance.

Completing this quest yields credit for Kalimdor Loremaster (for Alliance, at least). It's worth resetting the instance to get the remaining Deviate Dreadfang count taken care of if you're going for the Loremaster achievement.

Alliance Quests for Wailing Caverns

Since many people are trying out these low-level dungeons since the new dungeon tool appeared, perhaps for the first time, I thought it might be nice to make a summary of quests for WC for Alliance characters. Note that, for the Alliance, there isn't a quest for killing any of the bosses, although there is a quest triggered by a drop from the final boss.

Also note that since the mobs in the entry area (outside of the actual instance) are not elite, three of the four quests can be completed without actually grouping or entering the instance, as long as you're a high enough level to handle these non-elite mobs. On the other hand, since many people will be zoning directly in to the instance using the new tool, it's important to note that three of the four can be completed in the instance itself.
  1. https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=1487 Deviate Eradication - This is the only quest that actually requires entering the instance. The questgiver is located in the little cave above the entrance to Wailing Caverns. Follow the quest link for instructions on how to get into that cave. There are no pre-requisites to getting this quest.
  2. https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=1486 Deviate Hides - Also obtained from the cave outside WC. This quest can be completed either inside or outside the instance. Again, there is no pre-requisite for this quest.
  3. https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=1491 Smart Drinks - Obtained in Ratchet. There is a pre-requisite quest, https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=865 Raptor Horns, given by the same questgiver, and which can be completed fairly quickly without leaving The Barrens. This quest (Smart Drinks) also can be completed either inside or outside the instance.
  4. https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=959 Trouble at the Docks - This quest is obtained in Ratchet. The target NPC is in the entry area for WC and thus outside the instance itself, meaning that while this quest can be completed without entering the instance, it's the only one of these four that cannot be completed if you zone in using the new dungeon tool.
In addition to these, there is one other quest that can be picked up within the instance. https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=6981 The Glowing Shard is picked up by a drop from the final boss of WC, https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=3654 Mutanus the Devourer. This eventually leads to another quest which finishes (for Alliance characters) in Darnassus.

For some reason the built-in questgiver is telling me that these guys spawn in Stonetalon Mountains. They obviously do not.
