Mai'Zoth

Bring the Mind's Eye to Brother Nimetz at the Rebel Camp.
Mind's Eye

Description

Kurzen may be dead, but...that which drove him to evil still lives! Through my studies I have discovered this: An Ogre Mage - Mai'Zoth - dwells in an Ogre Mound within the eastern mountains of Stranglethorn. He is rumored to employ mind-controlling magic, and I am positive that he corrupted Kurzen.

If Mai'Zoth is allowed to live, then his evil may influence others, and may even cause another Kurzen to surface.

Kill him, and bring me his Mind's Eye, the artifact he uses to corrupt others.

Reward

You will receive:
Tranquil Orb

Progress

I give you my blessing. Mai'Zoth's strength is matched only by his evil.

Completion

Aha! You've done it! You are a great force for good, <name>, and may your strength never fade!

I will study this Mind's Eye and determine if it may be used for good. If not... then it must be destroyed.

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 505 experience (30 30 at max. level)
  • 350 Reputation with Stormwind

Mai'Zoth is in the Mosh'ogg Orge Mound, locate at cordinates 50.28

Be carefull because you can aggro 4 or more lvl 45 elites at a time. Mai'Zoth is lvl 47 elite and hits about 700 damage...
On the approach (in and outside of the cave) watch out for wandering mobs, so clear the front wandering mobs and the pull of the two front guards.

Be very careful on this one. These npc's aggro very easily and hit like level 48-49 elites.....a level 46 priest and seasoned level 47 shaman in very good gear tried 3 times to complete and were unable due to the mobs' extremely high dps and hp. Not expected from 41-45 elites...at all.

Soloed as a 48 hunter, was pretty easy actually. There were two two-pulls on the way in, and one of those was accidental near the entrance; the others were all one-pulls, and not too many of em either.

Mai'Zoth himself does have adds. One's a melee guy, one's a caster, both hit quite hard. I had to put pet on Mai himself, trap melee, and unload DPS on Mai before they killed both of us.

Soloed as 50 Warlock, send in Voidwalker to tank his 2 guards, dotted up Mai'Zoth and feared him, then heal Voidwalker, dot up Mai'Zoth and Fear him again (Howl of Terror if Voidwalker is dead) and wait for Mai'Zoth to die. At this point however you will most likely be close to dead, but if you have a Soulstone, and no mobs close, ressurect, loot, and get out :)

Blizzard apparently forgot to edit Mai'Zoth's damage.
Bassicly this means that his friggin frostbolt volley still hits for over 600 damage.
Not to forget that he has two annoying adds that you have to take care of aswell if you want to solo this quest.
Brilliant Blizzard.

Sincerely, Xarlequin.

soloed this as a lvl 44 shadow priest, hardest bit was the amount of mobs on the way to him, he was np, pulled the adds one at a time then took him out, no pots or heals, just kept my bubble up

You need to complete the following quest chains in order to get this quest.

Kurzen's Mystery: https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=207 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=207
Special Forces: https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=574 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=574

Except 'Special Forces', the other 3 quests are really hard one, take a lot of effort and time to complete, while the rewards, including this one, are worthless. Although I have done these quests many times, I seldom find any other one doing these at the same time, while STV is always flooded with players in other quests. Most of them must have skipped this one. Yes, you don't want to do this quest chain. Blizzard should make the reward a nice blue item, otherwise this is to be a deserted quest chain in STV. So hard, but reward so poor.
Well, I'm just doing it for SW rep to get a mount, and for some challenge.

Interrupt his spellcasts and he goes down like any normal mob. Concentrate on him, then the spellcaster, then finally the melee guy.

advice: just go at once into the cave you will get a key killing ogres there(from another q) and you will get a boss

saloed as lvl 46 shadow priest, and was pretty easy for me

And i must agree to Xarlequin!
The thing was, that i had 1000hp, and he got about 400, i damaged him and he damaged me and we both died... but i ressurected and looted him.. and turned the quest.
Blizzard jsut forgor to edit his damage... cuz he was ELITE

coords are 52.5 :28.2. it's easy to beat them and they aggro individually, so if you have any ranged the quest is a peice of cake. but a word of warning: they do gang up on you if you don't have any ranged gear to pull them one at a time

Solo'ed as a 43 druid. Killed the guards first, ran+shadowmelded in the corner to lose agro. Healed up, and killed the boss. I think I popped the feral last stand when all 3 were attacking me. Boss hits decently hard but easy enough once he is alone. GL

I managed to pull first the adds alone and then kill singled-out Mai'Zoth. Just went to the max range, my left clinging to the wall, cast Mind Blast on caster add and ran backwards - adds went after me, but Ma'Zoth did not engage.

This is my experience of the quest as a level 41 Balance-spec Druid in middling gear.

Getting In
It's not that hard to get there, most of the mobs are melee but I was easily able to keep them rooted while I machine-gunned Wraths at them. I had to drink every 5 mobs, maybe? Definitely not hard to get in.

The Guards
The guards aren't much to worry about, even if the Lord is a level 45. I was able to pull the aforementioned Lord with a single Starfire - I pulled the caster, too, but by the time I was done with both I was only at about half health and 75% mana or so - machine-gunning Wrath again. It's very mana efficient for me.

Mai'Zoth Himself
I started at max range - on the ledge. I rooted him, and he tried to use Frostbolt Volley; I must have been out of range as it never hit me. When he was at about 50% the roots broke, but he hits fairly weak on a Boomkin with 2.3k armour. The Flame Spike didn't do much, either.

I hope this has helped someone!

Done it as a 41 feral druid in some tanking gears. Getting in wasn't too hard, but took a while. Pull the mobs one by one, using Shadowmeld only if you have too. Once that rogue ganks you halfway in (meh) then res up. Basically make single pulls until the last room.

Last room's a little tricky. If you beat the shaman on the ledge, the mobs below won't aggro.

However, the shaman who walks in and out of the room can aggro if you are standing anywhere nearby, so watch out.
.
As for the boss and his adds, I killed the lowest level one (who was, thankfully, the caster), then tried to get up to the ledge and shadowmeld but got killed. However, I respawned, killed the other guard, successfully respawned, and went for the boss. The boss is no pushover at level 41, but is definitely manageable. Kill him ASAP because of the patting shaman and to make sure mobs don't respawn on your face. Loot him, hearth.

I managed to solo this as a 42 frost mage. I died a couple of times getting through the cave but managed pretty well. When i got to Mai' Zoth, i took out one of the spellcaster guys, Frost novering Mai' Zoth. I got him down but died pretty much straight away. When I went back to my body, before rezzing, i made sure my evocation was up. I then wacked on my mage armour, mana shield, arcane intellect and ice barrier. I then focused on the other spellcaster and when Mai' Zoth got to me, i frost nova'd him and moved away, taking down the spellcaster with a few frostbolts. Make sure that you keep up your Mana shield and ice barrier, put up ur icy veins for quick frostbolts and take down Mai' Zoth. It is pretty difficult but with some hard work and focus you will manage :) Pretty good work for a lowbi squishy =D

Wow, can't believe I pulled this off. Level 41 affliction warlock. I used the felhunter which worked wonders for all the shamans and Mai'Zoth himself. Felhunter kept boss aggro for most of the fight as I burned the two shamans and then him.
