Description

I will need certain materials to complete my endeavor... You may do this alongside the other tasks I will give you.

I'll need a splintered log from a treant of Feralas. Encrusted minerals, these can be found on the mountain giants and faerie dragons to the west. Also, find me some resilient sinew from the owlbeasts of the Hinterlands or hippogryphs of Feralas. Finally, I'll need a large amount of metallic fragments from any of these creatures I mentioned.

I started doing this quest on the side will questing in Feralas. Then I happened to be in The Hinterlands and killed an owlbeast, so started to rely do it. here my statistics:

I'm really not sure why the quest level for this is so high level 50 but the highest level mob you have to kill for it is 45-46. Completed this quest on my level 43 hunter without any problems. Don't let the red quest text put you off doing this quest early!

Quest can easily be completed for the lower level 40's. All the materials can also be collected from Feralas while completing other quests.

The splintered log may be looted by multiple group members from the Wandering Forest Walkers. Myself and my Priest guildmate completed the quest in 2 kills.

Here are coords: 56,62 area I found the Frayfeather guys, they all dropped at least 1 of the 2 items (Fragments/Sinew) and a good bunch of them dropped both. While I was here the tree came walking thru so I picked up a couple of those. Both Frayfeather types dropped and did so pretty well.

In case you didnt do the other quest/see them the darters are @ 69,49. The drop rate isnt too good, so you may want to kill them on the way out, and then again on the way back.

u can also get the Metallic fragments from the savage owlbeast in the hinterlands and that where he ask's you to get the first set of muisek. what you dont get there u will get from the next set of muisek, and that is the Frayfeather guys.

One issue with the Encrusted Minerals - they would not drop until i was also working the Faerie Dragon Muisek quest. I killed maybe 10 or 20 sprite darters before taking on the Muisek quest and no minerals dropped. As soon as i accepted the Muisek quest the drop rate went to about 50%.

Grinding hippogryphs is a great way to collect the last of the items, especially if you're a skinner. Treants can also path through that area.

You can take that egg to Gadgetzan for a cool 6000+ XP. It's associated with an Alliance quest from Rut'theran Village in Teldrassil, but Horde can still turn one in for experience.

Keep in mind it's impossible to get the minerals or fragments from the mountain giants before starting the mountain giant muisek quest, so there's no reason to run out there until then.

The muisek vessels are also annoying in that you can kill two creatures in its 30 second countdown, so you spend half your time just waiting around for the vessel to cool down. You can't skin the creatures either, afterwards, since the body is deleted. Overall, a rather annoying quest line, but the rewards are worth it.

58,73 in Feralas is where I found the Tree guys that drop the splintered log. It was only one Tree though and the spawn was horrible.. It's the only one I could find and I searched everywhere.

The splintered log also dropped for me from a Cursed Sycamore. He was located where the frayfeathers are in the high wilderness near the back. Although he does not show up in the Wow database as of yet, he does exist!( I double checked my combat log) He looks like the wandering trees, but is yellow/gold in colour. I also located a Wandering Tree there upon respawn of the surrounding frayfeathers.

The only pain about this quest is having to get all the metallic frags. They aren't 100% drop rate and they don't drop in multiples.

Apparently the bug requiring you to be in another quest in order to get Encrusted Minerals from Sprite Darters has been fixed. 14 Darters and I had all six. The valley with a high concentration can be entered from 70.59, 48.91, though you have to watch the Grimtotems. The small valley goes west and Darters are all the way to its end. Don't forget to go north - Darters extend past the Grimtotem camp and going after them will help you avoid waiting for the respawn. Respawn is very fast in any case. And a tree occasionally walks by.

I did this quest easily. All i did was do all the muisek quests then killed hippogryphs until i got all the other materials. (i had the dragon and treant stuff already.)

Just anecdotally, it appears the spawn rate for the Trees that drop the Splintered Logs has been drastically increased as of 3.2. I was practically tripping over the things while doing other quests in the zone, and I don't ever remember seeing that many before.

I can barely find trees and when I do they certainly arent dropping any splintered wood for me.
