Crystallized Azsharite (20)
Provided Item:
Felhound Tracker Kit

Description

The ancient cliff giants of the southern region of Azshara consume the rock and buildings of the land for sustenance. The excrement from their consumption is a highly malleable and extremely strong crystal known as Azsharite.

The formations litter the southern arc, but few are ever recovered due to the extremely violent nature of the giants.

You are to venture south and recover enough of the Azsharite for the creation of the weapon's body. My felhounds will aid in the recovery of the crystal.

Reward

Also, you get: 2 65

Progress

Evil does not sleep, fool. You will have time for rest when you are finally dead. Now, bring me those crystals.

Completion

Your tasks in Azshara are complete, mortal. I must now forge the necessary components for the next step in your adventure.

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 775 experience (46 50 at max. level)

While the quest is elite, it is easy to solo. The azsharite formations are located on the southern penninsula of the zone, from about 48-72 (x), to 76-92 (y). The only trick is to avoid the elite giants running around, but it isn't too hard.

You don't really need the felhound tracker for this quest, though it can help. The azsharite formations are the various blue crystals (both in petrified adventurer and regular crystal shapes) around the southern peninsula -- just right-click them as you would any other usable object, and you can loot some azsharite (and, on occasion, a funny Crystalized Note as well).

easier path to the souther peninsula from the quest giver is to swim directly to 58,73. From there run forward and go left, you'll see an uphill.

Good luck with shortcut ;D

It appears that whenever you're in a place where there's no Azsharite nearby, the Felhound Tracker just growls.

So no, it probably isn't a bug. Run around a bit and /roar again. Some of the Azsharite formations are located behind the rock, etc. so it is definitely faster to utilize the Felhound Trackers along with one's own pair of eyes.

For those who don't know what the Felhound Tracker is for, he sniffs out the crystals, which only helps you locate them -- as said above, he is not required to collect them.

When you /roar at him, he'll run to the nearest crystal formation (after a couple second pause) and do a growl emote. If not, he'll stand in place and growl anyway.

Once again, he is not required to collect the azsharite. You do that yourself like any other gathering quest.

Doesn't look like these respawn after you collect them so you can't camp around a few. Found one down at 50,87 and 48,88
Azsharite - it's all in the name :)

They are all nicely distributed on the ""higher"" part. So get away from the beach, upwards.
Inbetween the wandering Giants you'll find that &*!@ all around...collecting lasts 10 minutes or so...if you don't search at the beach, like I did...

Awesome advice Kreghx! Ty.

I have to say this - that was just the prettiest poop I have ever seen. If I could poop like that, I'd be rich.

My question was... how does the dog work? The answere is this:

1) The dog will not fight for you. It does not draw aggro to itself.

2) Before you pick up the quest make a /roar macro. You will need it. You have to find 20 of these poop things and the dog comes in real handy.

3) Make sure you have some time. He's on a timer. I think 30 minutes. Not sure if you can call up another dog after the 30 minutes are up. The timer starts countdown WHEN YOU ACCEPT THE QUEST, not when you let the dog out of the bag.

4) You do not have to click on the dogs standing next to the night elf. They have nothing to do with the dog you will get. When you accept the quest you will get a dog package. https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=10834 It looks like this.

5) The dog package contains 2 items. An orb to call the dog and a manual on how to work the dog. https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=10832 Read the manual in advance of accepting the quest at this link to help not waist your 30 minutes.

6) Do read the manual in game at least. Some of you may have the LightHeaded addon and do not want to skip out of game to follow my link.

7) You can easily do the quest in 30 minutes if you do not take any breaks. I do not know if logging out would stop your dog timer or if it would run anyway so best be on the safe side and just prepare for commitment to this quest.

I was lvl 59 when I did this and I got no agro from the giants, I just walked between them. The https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=6379#drops hippogryphs occationally got in the way.

A little extra for the addon enthusiasts. I have Cartographer and QuestHelper. Between these two addons I was able to click on something nifty called ""http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c378/Jemaniya/WoW/WoWScrnShot_081508_070606.jpg quest objective"" that showed me where the poop was. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c378/Jemaniya/WoW/WoWScrnShot_081508_071420.jpg Here's what my Cartographer Map looked like when I clicked quest objective. There's one cool stunt you can do with this quest:.
1. Get the quest.
2. Use all 5 charges on the Fel Orb in the tracker kit
3. Abandon quest.
4. Repeat as many times as desired. (see screen shot.)

It's really an amazing thing watching hundreds of felhounds wiggling around. To bunch them up like in the shot, spin around in one spot.

You can either ride back to Org (plan return route first) or water walk if you have that option.

If u don't find anything or somehow have lost ur Felhound, just run up on a hill and scout. If u don't see any, run to the next hill and scout and so on. That's how I found all of them.

Today doing this quest for the first time, I did indeed find Azsharite in the shape of humanoids. One of them had a https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=10839 Crystallized Note on them. It says:

""To Whom It May Concern:

If you are reading this note, then you are in one of two places: 1) On the southern peninsula of Azshara. 2) Inside the belly of a Cliff Giant. Both equally undesirable. It should be noted that I was the former at one time and as of the writing of this letter, the latter.

That is Win Blizzard.

Can someone confirm whether Warlocks can have this minion out while having his/her own minion out? A Gnome warlock with a Felbeast at each side should fulfil certain categories of PIMP.

EDIT: Another thing of note: this Felbeast given for this quest can climb up and down the sheer cliffs in this area, while you can't. Don't follow them blindly.

a few points of interest:
1) timer on the dog package does not stop if you log out. if you're out for longer than the ten minutes you've got to go back and get it again
2) if you pick up the azsharite and then go back and abandon the quest to get the dog package again, the azsharite disappears (maybe a bug for me? i definitely had 4 crystals, went to get the dog package again and they were no longer in inventory).
3) yes, warlocks can still have their minions along with the dog.
4) found multiple humanoid crystals. found notes:
""What was I thinking? Perhaps a better question would be: what am I doing writing a note while I'm sitting captive in the stomach of a giant? Both good questions that I have no immediate answer for. Admittedly, mine was not a mission of good will. I came in search of azsharite, a unique crystal to southern Azshara. Oh the riches I would have had! Bah! Now look at me...Should any manner of intelligent life find this note, they must ask themselves something: ""Why in the hell are they romping around with violent thirty foot tall giants?"" -Mook
Also found the note from the above but with a second page: Being inside the belly of a giant gives one time for reflection. As my body crystallizes I have come to the conclusion that perhaps there are enough heroes in the world. Should I somehow make it out of this predicament I am going to ring that orc's ghostly neck! - Windan Shay
Makes me wonder why the giants don't have stomach acid. Ah well. Still fun to find.
5) The orb does require you to be in Azshara (bummer - no running around SW w/2 minions. boo).

Just in case anyone was curious. :)

Best advice. Take the book and the summoning orb and throw it in the garbage can. Then hop on your mount, and search the region. You'll save tons of time. These things look like light blue crystals or crystallized dead bodies and they're all over the place. Felhound is practically worthless at sniffing these things out and he won't help you fight either.

I'd suggest the eastern-most part of the questing area (near the bridge that crosses over to an area filled with naga) as the Azsharite deposits seem to be closer together and easier to spot there.

And as plenty of other people have stated...don't bother with the felhunter. I put up with him for about three crystals until I realized it's much easier to simply run around and find them the old fashioned way.
