It is strongly suggested that you bring a 5 man party for this quest.

There are serveral tactics to handle this quest, a good tactic would be to move everyone onto the lower part of the mountain. The tank should now pull him down there and turn his back towards the brick wall of the mountain (to avoid being knocked off) and the rest focus on DPS (some might have issues with the add spawn, if you wipe on the add, try focusing the dps towards them as a priority and then continue on the demon).

I know many of you are highly interested in the 16 slot bag given by this quest - The chain is fairly long and starts in:
Horde: Fallen Hero (Swamp of Sorrows, questname ""The Disgraced One"")
Alliance: NPC in Nethergarde Keep (Blasted Lands - sends you to Fallen Hero)

Chain:
1.The Disgraced One (Given by Fallen Hero)
2.The Missing Orders
3.The Swamp Talker
4.The Stones That Bind Us (Given by Fallen Hero)
5.Heroes of Old
6.Heroes of Old (Reward: Shard of Afrasa)
7.Kirith (level 55 elite. Given by Fallen Hero)
8.The Cover of Darkness
9.The Demon Hunter (Loramus is at 61,66)
10.Loramus
11.Breaking the Ward
12.The Name of the Beast (Talk to Lord Arkkoroc. He is inside the Temple at 76,42)
13.The Name of the Beast (Kill Hetaera)
14.The Name of the Beast (Go back to Loramus)
15.Azsharite
16.The Formation of Felbane (Galvan is in Stanglethorn)
17.Enchanted Azsharite Fel Weaponry
18.Return to the Blasted Lands
19.Uniting the Shattered Amulet (Kill Sevine, Grol and Allistarj using weapon given by Galvan)
20.You Are Rakh'likh, Demon (Rakh'likh can be found around 47,23 Blasted Lands)

Just took this guy down tonight with a 5 man group. He was pretty hard but not as hard as some people are saying.

Group composition - Me - 60 Warrior (prot spec), priest (shadow spec), warlock (using imp), mage, druid. Between us we had about 6 epics - all in pre-MC and in most cases pre-Tier 0 set gear.

So, how did we do it?:

1) Preparation. All casters had a couple of mana pots, health pots. Priest was SS'd, warrior and druid healthstoned. I used dense sharpening stone, strength, agility, spirit scrolls, elixir of superior defense and the usual priest and druid buffs. My gear is reasonable for a non-MC warrior, 5k health unbuffed.

2) Tactics. Summon Raz, warrior taunt him off whoever he goes for, everyone jumps down the hillside to the rune together, taking care to heal once down as the drop can take health off. Warrior tank him with back to hillside so that when he performs his knockback you don't get smacked off the side.

3) Weaken. Use Fel Salve at the start of the fight as you wont get time once his adds pop up. We got the warlock to do it as his spells weren't doing much damage.

4) DPS. Warrior sunders to 5, and everyone lays into him. Mage using arcane missiles, warlock shadowbolt, druid and warrior hitting with large pointy things.

5) Add 1. At 50-60%, Ilifar turned up, and the druid tanked him in bear form while the lock and mage brought him down. I got hit with a knockback here but with my back to the wall I just bounced off and didn't get hurt. Taunt Raz back onto warrior again and continued.

6) DPS 2. With Ilifar dead, I'd tank dps'd Raz down to about 45% in the meantime. We carried on with DPS til he got to around 20%. (Had to re sunder around this point.)

7) Add 2. At this time, Felcular appeared. We got the druid to tank him and self heal while the rest of us continued to smack Raz. Mana was low here, the priest had all but run out, so I whacked on shield wall, healthstoned, and bought the priest some mana up time. 10%

8) Finish him!. Our druid died then, but we'd held them off long enough. Execute along with the support dps finished Raz off, and I dragged Felcular off our warlock. With only one target left, he quickly went down.

9) Victory! ;)

Okay to clear up something: He is not immune to ""all magic"" or at least not as far as I can tell. He IS immune to shadow, fire, fear, and banish (so as a warlock.. I was freaking useless) arcane magic DOES seem to work on him though.

I also strongly, strongly suggest a 5 man party for this.

Also a tip: If you died but your fellow guildies who were so kind as to help you with this quest did not die, but are waiting at the bottom of the mountain for you, **please be careful about teleporting up to the top to resurrect without warning your party first** as it will pull everyone nearby up with you. I wiped our group once that way ;)

The walk through above is amazing, so follow that :) Good luck!

Razelikh can be kited all the way to Stonard for those looking to solo this quest. While immune to all snare/slowing effects a simple speed enchantment or arathi basin foot armor reward will prevent him from gaining ground.

The Descent:

The mountain can be safely descended on the northside. The first jump down, to the rune of return plateau, will be the only one to cause damage. Once there drink a potion to recover the lost health and tag Razelikh to maintain the kite.

From the rune of return plateau move to northern most edge. Avoid the rune itself or you will be teleported to the entrance of the tainted scar. You will be able to spot the next highest ledge, and land there by walking backwards off the plateau. Directly east of the ledge will be the obvious safe route down to the road. Be sure to tag Razelikh immediately after making the third jump.

The Kite:

Once at the base of the mountain the kite is fairly straight forward. Razelikh's only ranged attack mana burn is the best time to tag him. It is slow casting enough to tag and get out of range.

Illifar so long as not damaged/tagged will bug out at the zone change between Blasted Lands and Swamp of Sorrows. He will simply stand at the arch, but will aggro if you come into range.

Stonard:

Stonard's west entrance has 4 Stonard Grunts level 65. Two at the gate, and two patrolling both bunkers. Simply circle the north bunker until the guards have Razelikh's attention. These will more than enough to finish the boss.

However when Felcular spawns he will go straight for you. Retreat into Stonard itself and run past the blacksmith on the northside of the camp to the northwest gate. There two more grunts will finish him off quickly. Be sure to tag him once so you can loot him.

Level 63 Hunter using defiler's chain greaves without aspect of the cheetah used this method successfully, patch 2.2. Kept pet on Razelikh with growl disabled tagging during mana burn casts with distracting shot rank 6.

Good luck and happy hunting.

A friend of mine (57 warlock) and myself (63 warlock) were able to successfully take him down, no wipes. He hits hard, but with both of our felguards out, it was an easy enough fight. Immune to DoTs, health funnel and whatnot, we just kept our felguards healed and spammed shadowbolt. Had to use a healthstone each, but we finished it pretty quick. I'm not sure if it would do anything, but you could try using the Fel Salve on him. We did, but didn't notice a significant difference. The two adds he summons are non-elite. (patch 2.3) Just take them down easy after the fight, no problem.

You know, all the people saying ""it's easy to duo/ solo"" at level 70 are missing the point that this is a quest you're supposed to be doing in, say, your mid-50's.

Well, YEAH, if you're about 10-15 levels higher than the average quest-doer, of course it's gonna be easier. And if you're a warrior it's gonna be easier than a soloing squishy whose attacks he's immune to, go figure.

Not a helpful comment, so much, though.
Rating: +10 [-] [+]
By tale on 05/18/2008 (Patch 2.4.2)
I understand the frustration, Wendy, but honestly I don't think that's what most folks mean by their comments. (Some probably do.) The quest is still surprisingly challenging even at 70 and even though it got nerfed down from a 5 person quest to a 2 person quest. Though any 70 should be able to manage it solo, it isn't a cakewalk, and so people posting their results is still helpful to others trying it, especially as it can be hard to find someone out in Blasted Lands nowadays who will lend a hand.

Here's my story. On my 70 frost mage I'll admit I took a few tries. My gear is decent but not awesome; 778 +dmg from gear. The demons are (all?) immune to frost and fire, but will take damage from arcane and, surprisingly, the water elemental's water bolt. Also immune to any of the other utility of my spec, no slowing or freezing for a shatter crit.

The main issue for me turned out to be the punt, though the first attempt I screwed up by summoning the water elemental before heading down the cliff to the lower ledge per the usual strategy of then using the cliff to limit the punt. He aggrod on the water elemental and I lost important DPS time waiting for him to kill it then come down to me.

The next time I got punted off the mountain anyway.

But the actual horizontal punt distance seemed relatively small, like if I stayed on the top at the center I'd still land on top. So the next time I did, and the punt was just far enough to still knock me down. I landed on the lower ledge and he came down to me ... and then de-aggrod and went back up top. WTF?

That made me not trust the go-down-the-cliff strategy for its reliability so for my finally successful try here is what I dwowhead:1,id:

* Summoned him and stayed standing at the orb. He didn't even aggro me from that range.

* Summoned the water elemental and started combat. He then came over to melee the elemental, and I swung around to his back side, still right next to him so when he aggrod on me and did the punt, I'd have as much room as possible to still land on top of the mountain. Also summoned my Netherwing Ally (from trinket) which did additional arcane damage.

* Got him to where he summoned Ilifar. I switched to him (left pets on Rakh'likh) with one channeling of arcane missiles, which killed him.

* Not sure if it was connected to Ilifar dying or the elemental, but right at that point Rakh'likh aggrod on me and punted me. I landed still on top of the mountain.

* Cold Snap and summon another elemental. Resume arcane missiles. He summoned Felcular. Kept fire focused on Rakh'likh and downed him, then killed Felcular. Felcular has very few hit points though so some folks might want to just kill him first.

By the way, if you do decide to go down the cliff to use it as a backstop, don't believe the guy who said you don't take fall damage if your enchanted felbane weapon is equipped. You do.

Hope this helps others. Even with all the caveats (now I'm 70; they nerfed it) it still felt like an accomplishment to me to solo him, after having done it several times pre-BC with five man parties.

If you are fighting him on one side and he begins to channel his knockback, simply walk to the other side -- it only hits the area right around him and it's very easy to get away.

Zorba mentioned this already, but I thought it deserved its own post. There is no reason to be hit by the knockback at all. Fight him on one side, move to the other during the long cast time, move back after it goes off.

Not sure if this is helpful or not... I got the quest at level 50 on my Blood Elf Horde Rogue, It was hard to find a group to finish the quest so I decided to just hang on to it for a bit. Maybe when I got to a higher level I could then come back and try again.

Now I am level 66 and the quest is still green to me I thought I should try before it goes gray in my quest log. I went and got my Enchanted Azsharite Felbane Dagger and stocked up on some buffs. As I went to go talk to the Deathly Usher he did not give me an option to port up to the top of the mountain. =( Not sure if its a bug or what, But I put in a ticket and now I wait for a GM response.... I'll update on this as soon as I get a response...

*Update* Silly me I forgot to have my https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=10757 Ward of the Defiler item in my bag. Now that I have it I can port up. I guess people that want to help others that are on the quest can not unless they did the quest chain and saved the item. Good luck and happy hunting =)

Had this in my log for a long time, finally decided to solo it as a 66 BM hunter. The advice about avoiding the pushback was invaluable. Pet held aggro through the first add, then got blown off the top and I had to melee. Took a short while for pet to reappear, but a long time for it to draw aggro off me so I could start shooting again. Used Lifeblood and a heal pot as insurance, finished off demon, then took down the second add. Second add dropped a Flawless Draenethyst Sphere! Nice reward for an exciting 30 second fight. It would have been much worse without the helpful advice above.

After several hours of doing the chain leading up to this as a level 55 prot warrior i finally managed to kill Razelikh by timing my bandages carefully and popping shield wall/shield block whenever they were cooled down only to find out that the trinket i was after the entire time is, as of 3.3.3, broken. Hopefully they fix this in 3.3.4 but until then i would skip this quest chain unless you're with a friend as it is time consuming and very hard to solo (Specifically Lady Sevine but Razelikh is also very difficult for melee classes in their mid-50s). This is a fun challenge if you aren't after rewards and have some time to kill but it can be very frustrating. Good luck to all who attempt this alone.

Easily managed this as a 60 enhance shaman wearing BOA shoulders and chest. I tanked him right next to the summoning orb and set my puppies on him as soon as he spawned. At first I ignored the add he summoned, but after the knockback he seemed only interested in the puppies so I demolished the add and Rakh'likh came back to me once they despawned. He got to summon his second add just before I killed him. It doesn't despawn when he dies.

I either figure they must have nerfed this pretty good, or I didn't notice how hard he was hitting me because of the spirit wolves, but I only needed one lesser healing wave after they were gone to finish him off. If you're not sure if the quest is summonable for you, give it a go.

Horde: [quest=25701 domain=www]

Helpful I found in Alliance comments(useful for horde as well)
So if you come across this particular problem-someone told me one time for other lower level quest I was really high and kept killing what I needed to catch once health was 30% Take off all or most of gear and weapons. Then you shouldn't have to worry about instantly killing Rakh'likh. Also, auto attack hits are weaker than even the basic ""deadly strike"". That should also aid in making damage but not one hit killing him.

This quest was a bit annoying since I didn't get credit for Destroying his body. After several times trying a hunter (level 57) came. I just let him dps Razelikh and finally it worked. If you dps him too fast you won't get the credit for destroying his body and you will 'bug' the quest.

So when ur level 80 and doing this quest, don't dps too much! =)
