Raging Beast's Blood (30)

Description

The dreadsteeds dwell on another world, on the fiery Plains of Xoroth, and to bind one of those famed beasts you must invoke powerful glyphs. I can scribe the glyphs on a parchment for you, but first I will need a special ink.

In distant Winterspring there dwells a race of owl beasts. Once pure creatures, they were turned mad by the demonic emanations of the Darkwhisper Gorge and now roam the snows in a frenzy.

Their blood is what I need to ink your parchment. Bring it to me.

Progress

Have you seen the raging owl beasts, <name>? The magic of those creatures is strong, and it concentrates in the blood that flows through their torturted forms.

Completion

Ah, very good. I will have this blood distilled into an ink and use it for the parchment I promised you. And perhaps I will save just a little for myself, as I hear its taste is quite euphoric...

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 775 experience (46 50 at max. level)

There are plenty of these at 65,21 just outside of Hidden Grove &amp; inside as well. Took me about 1hr to complete. It's much more fun if you have 1 other person in your party.

The drop rate is indeed pretty bad, maybe 20-30% at best. There is also a high concentration of them at Owl Wing Thicket, south of Everlook almost to Frostwhisper Gorge. Only problem there is that there is an Alliance escort quest that runs through the area, thus others might be trying to kill the mobs as well.

Also, try to complete https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=969 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=969 beforehand, so that you can collect https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=12433 https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=12433 and turn it into https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=12458 https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=12458. You don't actually have to kill the elite giants for the quest. There are shards on the ground that you can pick up, once you fear the giant guarding them, then run like hell. Only resulted in a few beatings. :P

If you're Horde, you might want to do the Wild Guardians quest chain (https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=4521 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=4521) from Bloodvenom Post in Felwood at the same time if you haven't already. It wants you to kill the same owlbeasts that drop these items.

The droprate isn't as bad as it looks, at least it wasn't for me. I was getting one blood off of every other owlbeast I killed, I'd estimate the drop rate for me was more like 40-50%.

65,21 is a great spot to farm the owlsbeasts. I would have to say that the drop rate was near 20-30%. Took about 30-35minute in field to yourself.

The area by 65,21 is infinitely superior to the location in the south. There are enough owlbeasts here to keep me virtually constantly killing (6 at a time) at level 67.

Also, the drop rate according to mobinfo while I killed them was 22% on both types of critters.

I just completed this quest and here are some numbers to go by.

Berserk: Killed 33 Blood 16 48%
Moontouched: Killed 25 Blood 8 32%
Crazed: Killed 12 Blood 4 33%
Raging: Killed 10 Blood 2 20%

Seems the best route is to stay at the Hidden Grove area and kill the Owlbeasts there. After killing six Raging Owls on the way up and not getting the drop I tried the Berserk Owlbeasts and they dropped every 3 to 5th kill.

Also a good source of Ironfeathers for leatherworking as well as E'Ko if you completed the quest in Everlook for the Witch Doctor. Occasional green drops to sell and plenty of Giant Eggs for cooking.

Heres my advice, just kill all the owlbeasts you see. The beserks have a higher droprate, but not much higher. Why spend all your time looking for berserks, when you could just kill them all and get finished faster? I tried the 65,21 coords, they are the best I've found. : )

At level 60 this took me around 50 minutes, with average bad or good luck and I was able to gain 1 mini xp bar. I also managed to get 102 https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=15420 Ironfeathers, 30 https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=12207 Giant Eggs, anhttps://vanillawowdb.com/?item=3075 Eye of Flame and two greens.
They also seem to drop from the Crazed Owlbeast more than the others, however the area was populated mostly with Moontouched (caster) owlbeasts for me.

Have fun!

Well, this quest was annoying.

SW Stats tells me I killed:
1 Berserk Owlbeast 28
2 Crazed Owlbeast 28
3 Moontouched Owlbeast 27

That's 83 Moonkin, 53 of which apparently didn't have blood. &gt;.&lt;

Drop-rate from that would be 36%. Pretty obnoxious for a quest that involves collecting 30 of something. And, ya know, somehow I didn't think the quest for getting my epic Warlock mount would involve massacring Moonkin of all things... :)

On another note, SW Stats also tells me my DPS to each was
7 Crazed Owlbeast 239.4
8 Berserk Owlbeast 230.4
10 Moontouched Owlbeast 149.6

So, apparently, the Crazed Owlbeasts are slightly squishier than the others. (I think the Moontouched Owlbeasts' incoming DPS was so low in part because of how small their healthpool was.) (Oh, and for those wondering, my spell rotation was simply ""Corruption, Shadowbolt, Shadowbolt..."" or ""Curse of Elements, Corruption, Drain Life, Drain Life..."" and I'm spec'd 9/42/0.)

maybe you thought you were over with Winterspring, think again, you need to kill moonkin look mobs for the quest item to fall, best is to farm these using the caves a bit north and close to Brumeran, move between those caves, mobs respawn very quickly

after latest patch 3.0.3 this is not needed, too BAD to all locks that wasted %hours to do the quest line and searching for groups-

The epic ground mount (Dreadsteed) is now available on the trainer at level 61, requiring 150 riding skill, and the non-epic mount learned.

Just finished this quest, while running around near 65,21 killing every owlbeast i saw i had to kill 63 owlbeasts to get the 30 drops. 30/63 is about 48% so the blood was about a 48% drop for me =]

clear the area outside of the grove, then go through the grove and kill the 4 or 5 in there while you wait for the respawns outside

Mm... owl beast blood, tastes good on a toast and that euphoric aftertaste is brilliant!
