Washte Pawne's Feather
Provided Item:
Washte Pawne's Feather

Description

The feather of Washte Pawne is painful to the touch.

Reward

The following spell will be cast on you:
Washte Pawne's Resolve

Progress

There is new resolve within you, <name>. A resolve born from pain...

Are you burdened with the death of Washte Pawne?

Completion

The thunderhawk is a rare beast of the Barrens, and its death can portend great fortune, or great doom.

But Washte Pawne, called Spirit Biter in Taurahe, can bring neither... or both.

The pain you felt from hunting Spirit Biter is the pang all feel who make great gains at great costs. The sting you felt is the pain of regret.

But I can see you have conquered this. You have learned that regret turns to wisdom, and that through pain one gains strength.

You have learned much, <name>.

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 150 experience (9 at max. level)
  • 150 Reputation with Thunder Bluff

Washte Pawne can be found in the south Barrens, in the area north of Razorfen Kraul and Razorfen Downs. He can spawn on either side of the road, he has a rather quick respawn rate and he has a 100% chance of dropping the feather that starts this quest.. For the hunters out there, he's level 25, he's got a dark red skin, and he comes with lightning breath 3.

There are four named beasts throughout the Barrens that drop quest-starting items. All of the quests are turned in at Jorn Skyseer in Camp Taurajo.

Here's a consolidated list:
https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=885 Washte Pawne - red wind serpent (wandering Blackthorn Ridge for me)
https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=884 Owatanka - blue thunder lizard directly south of Camp Taurajo
https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=883 Lakota'mani - grey kodo (46,49 for me, typically wanders east of Agama'gor)
https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=897 The Harvester - blue/black silithid insect (found toward the back of the western Field of Giants area)

There is NO permanent stat buff. This is strictly EXP. All of these mobs are non-elite.

In order of rarity
:

Owatanka: ~48,59 or 50, 53
https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=884 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=884
Almost ALWAYS by the tree around 48,59, unless he was killed recently. There have also apparently been some reports he was found at 50, 53. Blue version of a Stormsnout.

Lakota'mani: ~45,49
https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=883 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=883
He might have a pretty broad spawn radius. As of today he was at the above location. This guy is only a tad rare than Owatanka. Large grey kodo that is not aggressive.

Washte Pawne: Ranges 44,74 to 44,78 or 47,49
https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=885 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=885
Coords vary in the boar area (where I usually find him); sometimes spawns across the field at 47,49 area. Contrary to the prior two, I am sometimes unable to find him, so you might have to come back later. Larger, red version of a Thunderhawk.

The Harvester: ~48,70
https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=897 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=897
Spawns little beetles at a fast rate, so if you're not an AOE class you need to DPS him down fast (bring a healing potion). This is one of the few that I have not finished on ALL of my characters, as he is rather rare. Check in the field to the east every time you pass by... it's a small area / not a huge detour. The mob looks like a beetle (unique to zone). I haven't confirmed, but the scorpion that moves extremely fast around the area might be his placeholder.

Contrary to what Wowhead says, this is completable post 4.0.3a (The Shattering) only if you had the item in your bank (maybe bags?) before the patch dropped. Not sure why I did though... The blizzard quest tracker will take you to Camp Taurajo, where Jorn Skyseer was previously located, but since he has been relocated to Vendetta Point, that is where the quest can be turned in.
