+350 rep with Thunder Bluff and 950xp @ lvl 32 :P

P.S. Another quest relative to this particular area is https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=1824 https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=1824

It's part of the Brutal Armor quest-chain for warriors.

There are four named beasts throughout the Barrens that drop quest-starting items. All of the quests are turned in at Jorn Skyseer in Camp Taurajo.

Here's a consolidated list:
https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=885 Washte Pawne - red wind serpent (wandering Blackthorn Ridge for me)
https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=884 Owatanka - blue thunder lizard directly south of Camp Taurajo
https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=883 Lakota'mani - grey kodo (46,49 for me, typically wanders east of Agama'gor)
https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=897 The Harvester - blue/black silithid insect (found toward the back of the western Field of Giants area)

The Silithid Harvester is a rare, as shown by the silver dragon around its portrait. It was found on the western side of the Field of Giants all the way in the southwestern corner.

Seems like this guy takes forever to spawn. As above, easiest way to probably do it is later on in the levels (28 is about comfortable) and just park there, checking every so often to see when the Harvester spawns.

Something I did which really made this much easier for me was download a mod called npcscan that I was already using for Frostbitten and Bloody Rare and add each of the rare mobs that would drop quest items. I was flying to Tanaris and npcscan went off so after I finished my quest I flew back and killed it without running out there to check every so often. The mod itself basically eliminates a /target macro so you have to get in range of it but once you click the pop up notification it will target and mark the mob with a triangle.

He has more than one spawn location. I found him in the middle of the mounds on the EAST side of the Southern Gold Road. You need to check all the mounds, not just the rear on the west side. He is an easy kill when found, just watchout for the nearby adds.

Follow these coordinates, as multiple kills of this rare mob only drop the quest item if you haven't completed it.

The obsolete note is accurate.

You can still obtain this quest item and the quest itself but John is dead as is the rest of the camp.

Be pissed about the camp and murder all you come across.

Unfortunately the harvester is L34, but the quest reward is grey and only gives ~276xp (w/guild XP buff). Don't bother with it until they fix it.

This quest CAN be obtained and turned in, contrary to what wowhead says. The https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=3253 Silithid Harvester has come back with patch 4.0.6 and is updated appropriately for the zone and is now level 34. The quest though has not and is listed as level 24.
In order to turn it in just don't go to Camp Taurajo like the in-game question mark tells you, but continue to Vendetta Point. https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=3387 Jorn Skyseer resides there after The Cataclysm.
The quest did not count to https://vanillawowdb.com/?achievement=4981 Southern Barrens Quests, but as it was listed under Northern Barrens in my Quest Log, it may count to https://vanillawowdb.com/?achievement=4933 Northern Barrens Quests. I was not able to confirm that, because I had already completed the achievement for that zone. So if anyone does, please respond to this comment. :)

Edit: Spelling

I can confirm this does count towards Northern Barrens Acheivement for Loremaster . Jorn is now located at Vendetta Point in Southern Barrens and yes you can complete this quest still and awards you +385 rep with Thunder Bluff.
