Ogre Tannin

Description

If you're going to fight the king of this dump - and I think that's what you're bound to do - then you're going to need to get by Captain Kromcrush. Now, you can get by him by killing him, sure. You might actually want to leave him alive.

How, you ask? Since I've been here, I think I know how to make an ogre suit that will last just long enough to fool these bozos. The only problem is stability - ten minutes tops. Bring me what I need, and I'll make you one. I'm not going anywhere...

Reward

You will receive:
Gordok Ogre Suit

Progress

The Ogre Tannin is probably the toughest thing to find for what I need to make the suit - I think they have some upstairs? It's hard to tell, since this ball and chain doesn't make movement that easy to do...

Anyway, bring me the things I need, and I'll whip you up an ogre suit that will fool Captain Kromcrush into thinking you're one of his men.

Completion

Yeah, this will do the trick. Just a slip here, and tuck here... heh - this is going to work out just fine! <A broad smile beams from the chained goblin's face.>

Here you go, you're all set. Remember- this isn't the most securely fashioned item in the world. You'll have ten minutes of use before it falls apart, and then you're not going to fool anybody! Try using it just before you approach him, and remember... it only will make him think that YOU are an ally - not your group mates!

Gains

Quite literally one of the best things in wow. The suit lasts 10 mins and is like any other disguise.
Sadly this item is unique so you can only keep one on you.
There is also a reusable ""trinket"" availible that does the same through buying trading cards:
https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=23716 https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=23716

The trinket was changed later so it is now usuable without having to equip it.
Another thing to note is that the suite makes you a blue ogre but the ogre idol turns you into a smaller red ogre.

After youve completed that quest, Knot will teach you how to sew that Ogre Suit on your own, if youre tailor or leatherworker.
Additionally, completing this quest will net you 250 rep with whole Steamwheedle Cartel.

DRUIDS BEWARE! shifting form after putting this on WILL negate the buff it provides

Also, you will still aggro any mobs except the captain

For people seeking to do this who have never done the quest or been to Dire Maul, here's what you have to do once you have all the mats in your bags (besides the tannin). Unless you have some means of getting through the locked door to Dire Maul North (engineering charges, lockpicking, friend or guildie with the key, etc.), you need to do the following:

Optional: Find https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=14355 Azj'Tordin north of Camp Mojache to obtain the quest https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=7441 Pusillin and the Elder Azj'Tordin.

1) Enter Dire Maul East through it's main entrance. The portal's on the east side of the area known as the Broken Commons, opposite another hallway that's blocked by a cave-in.

2) As you enter the Warpwood Quarter, on your left will be an imp named https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=14354 Pusillin wandering around. Talk to him and then follow him. You'll chase him past mobs almost completely around the Warpwood Quarter. On the third talk, he'll run east into the area known as the Hidden Reach. Keep following, killing mobs as needed. On the next talk, he'll run a little further in and up a ramp on your right. Talk to him again and he'll finally go hostile and spawn some adds. Kill him and presto, he'll have the Crescent Key! (He will also drop the Book of Incantations if you picked up the quest mentioned earlier.)

3) At this point you can either go back the way you came, or exit by continuing east past the ramp to a side entrance that requires the key to get through. It puts you at that gazebo just north of Camp Mojache, where https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=14355 Azj'Tordin sits, where you can turn in the book.

Now that you have the Crescent Key...

1) Enter Dire Maul North through the Broken Commons.

2) Make your way west to another locked door at the end of the second big room. The Crescent Key opens this also. Loot the Gordok Courtyard Key in the middle of the room while you're at it. This leads to the 'Halls of Destruction'.

3) As you come into the next big room you will see several bug mobs. The questgiver, Knot Thimblejack, is further ahead on the right, by the wall near the corner.

4) Once you obtain the quest, if you brought the right mats with you, all that's left is the Ogre Tannin. Continue around the room and go up the first ramp. Straight ahead, by the corner (where two ogre warlocks and their doomguard minions stand) is the Ogre Tannin basket!

WARNING: Remember that the Ogre Tannin is bind on pickup, so if you're with a group, make sure the one getting the suit (whether for fun or for the tribute run) is the one who gets the tannin. Also, looting the tannin causes a mob to come yelling and running for you.

The rest should be self explanatory. I'll edit as needed if I remember anything else. Hope this helps, and have fun with the suit!

Actually, the Crescent key is needed simply to get INTO Dire Maul North. Anyone in the party may have it. Realunimportant is correct about the other door, however.

Here is an excellent macro you can use to turn in this quest with ease. All you do is click the little Goblin dude to open up the quest return window thingy, then spam this macro. It destroys the Ogre Suit, so if you want to save them to sell on the AH this macro is NOT for you. After destroying the previous suit it simply goes through the quest turn in process and completes it for you. Saves a lot of time.

<pre class=""code"">/run for b=0,4,1 do for s=1,32,1 do local n=GetContainerItemLink(b,s);if n and string.find(n,""Gordok Ogre Suit"") then PickupContainerItem(b,s);DeleteCursorItem();end;end;end;SelectGossipAvailableQuest(1);CompleteQuest();GetQuestReward();</pre>I got this macro from editing one I found on https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=8249#comments:id=698537 this page, which is the quest needed to grind Ravenholdt Reputation past honored.

If you are doing mass turnins, without using any macro u can just drop the suit into an action bar, bind a hotkey to it and before each handing press the key. It will use the suit on you, but at least you dont have to destroy click confirm etc.

I'm currently working on the Insane. IMO the rep provided per turn in does not adequately compensate the value of the mats needed. On my server the mats for one turn in run for about 20g. Yes I get them during my DM key runs anyways, but I feel like I am further ahead if i sell the mats and do a few extra key runs.

Also, if you're that desperate for the rep alone (i.e. you dont need the librams), then just massacre the pirates in the Barrens. A hunter with Aspect of the Cheater on can get just short of 3500 rep per faction (7000 for Ratchet up to 11999/12000 honored) per hour. 3500 in rep on my server, in Ogre Suit turn ins, has an opportunity cost of nearly 1000g... It just isn't worth the cost of the materials.

This may be the most worthwhile quest in the entire game if you're working on 40 exalted reputations. Not only will you get a gordok suit and the recipe to make it (if you're a tailor), but you'll be able to repeat the quest non-stop. It's not a daily, and if done in combination with the Slip Knot quest (which rewards you with more Tannin), you'll be exalted in no time.

Just stock up on tons of materials for the quest before you enter. Then once it's complete, walk back out of the northern entrance, reset the instance and do it again. Sure beats killing pirates at 3 rep per kill. Be sure to wear the Gordok suit on your next run to quicken the pace, but stay away from the hyenas, they'll sniff you out.

And by the way, Ogre Tannin DOES STACK. Gordok shackle keys DO NOT.

I farmed Dire maul north long enough to get 375 tannins. I formed a raid to get the *For The Horde* achievement making these suits for all 40 members for each of the 5 leaders.Took a huge chunk of time to craft the suits in between every boss, along with all the transport time, but it was totally worth it. Epic fun times. Moon Gaurd US 3/28/10 OGRE RAID FTW!

It appears that putting on this suit will actually change your sex to male if you are a female. While this wouldn't normally mean much, if you have the Matron title from the Children's Week meta achievement, donning this ogre suit will remove your Matron title and grant you the Patron title (along with the chat messages and animations associated with losing/gaining titles) for the duration of the buff. On removal of the buff, your Patron title will be removed and your Matron title restored.

These Gordok Ogre Suits sell for around 40g each on my server, making it very worthwhile bringing along your Argent Squire/Gruntling with pony or an engineer for the mailbox to send them to your alt instead of destroying them.

As of 4.0.3a live (The Shattering), this quest now only requires one https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=18240 Ogre Tannin, and rewards no reputation with Steamwheedle Cartel. This means much easier access to ogre suits, but no more raising reputation through the turnins. The new quest can be found here: https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=27120 The Gordok Ogre Suit
