In Arathi Basin at the farm there are ton of these little critters, warriors usually build up rage by killing them. So when the opposing force comes they'll have a full rage bar.

The troublesome rats have always been a nuisance to mankind; they even made their own presence on Azeroth! Rats may be found on both continents, often found in dark and dirty places. The rats may even be insightful and educational for a novice adventurer!

If you are an alliance member, Monty, the rat exterminator, may even offer you a quest to capture the Deeprun Rats that has infested the Deeprun tram station! For this quest, Monty needs a hero to capture 5 Deeprun rats alive. If you accept his request, he will give you the rat catcher's flute. By blowing into the flute, the rats would be mesmerized by its sound and follow you obediently. Be careful though, these pesky rats are pretty fast, and may run off before you can charm them into submission!

If you complete the quest, Monty will give you a carton of mystery meat. He will then request for you to bring the carton to his brother Nipsy. If you bring the carton to Nipsy, Nipsy will reward you with some Deeprun rat kabob! Yum! You have not only gained an easy 900 exp (at level 10) but become a honorable rat exterminator!

If you are a horde, while traversing through the barrens, if you ever find yourself hungry, you may visit Grub, who is east of the crossroads, for a quest to hunt for some dig rats (However Grub will not offer you the quest unless you are somewhat of a decent chef). These meaty dig rats may be found in Bael Modan, in the southern parts of the Barren. (You know you are at the right place if you see lots of dwarves huddling together).

By completing this quest, Grub rewards you with 5 dig rat stew, and the recipe to make the actual stew. In addition, you gain 190-1850 exp plus a pretty decent pair of apothecary gloves so that you don't burn yourself while cooking the stew! For completion, you may honestly consider yourself a seasoned adventurer!

I don't know about you, but oftentimes I would find myself lacking the levels in certain weapon skills. Rats are actually a great source for leveling that weapon skills you may have not have stayed on par with all of your other weapon skills!

Whether you are an alliance or a horde, Go out and prove yourself by killing some rats today!

There is a very small chance when a rat spawns that it will be an albino rat(but the name is exactly the same)

Has anyone else noticed that sometimes a rat will have a cast bar? It vanishes too fast for me to see what they're casting. Wondering if anyone else has noticed this or if they know what the sneaky rat is doing.

It's not displayed on the map above, but you can find a Rat, Roach, and Spider all from Gjalerbron (Howling Fjord 38,10 - around the ""O"" on Gjalerbron) for the 3.0.8 Pest Control achievement.

Here's the jist on this guy.
Another critter needed for the achievement added in 3.08 Pest Control (at the time of this post, it's not in database).
They're everywhere. From instances, to BG's, even near some of your home towns. An easy way to snag this guy, is to include him in your Naxxramas 10/25 package of https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=4075 Rat , https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=16030 Maggot , https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=16068 Larva , and https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=14881 Spider .

Helpful macro for the achievement:Helpful macro for finding the Larva:
/tar Larva
/stopmacro [noexists]
/tell (YourCharacterName) > %t <

Remember to replace YourCharacterName with, well Your Character's Name.

Going to repost this on the others.

add the following:

/stopmacro [noexists]
/tell YOUR NAME HERE > %t <
/stopmacro [dead]
/run
/run RaidNotice_AddMessage(RaidBossEmoteFrame,""THERE IT IS! KILL IT!"", ChatTypeInfo[""RAID_WARNING""])
/script PlaySoundFile(""Sound\interface\RaidWarning.wav"")

to the end of the search macro to make it much more obvious when you come across one

Wondering if anyone else has noticed this or if they know what the sneaky rat is doing.I've noticed that as well, but on various other creatures too. As far as I can figure, if you were just running by a mob casting a spell or were fighting something that was casting, the next creature you run past will have a cast bar with the same spell for a split second. Suspect it's either some weird form of lag or a bug somewhere in the files. I'd thought I was the only one seeing that :-)

Rumor does have it that some are albino, others are just plain scary. They also have more health than the average critter.

Some priests have even been able to mind-control them and wipe themselves out :)

Easiest for Alliance (not sure about Horde). In the alleyway next to the AH in Stormwind, there are always at least 3 rats running around.

Fun to torture!

...on my Death Knight, I would cast Strangulate, followed immediatly by Chains of Ice. While it was still rooted to one spot, I would over-kill it big time by using Death and Decay.

Pleasure.

In north east Stontalon, There are some night elf ruins and a lake. There are three rats inside the lake in a triangle formation. Anyone have an Idea as to why?

I visited later and three roaches were there instead of rats.

Several new locations for the Rat. One is Arathi Highlands. You'll find them in the caves there namely Boulderfist Outpost, Boulderfist Hall and Drywhisker Gorge. Plus there are some in Stromgarde Keep.

In Ghostlands, the spawn points randomly create 1 of 3 critters, https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=16068"">(NPC #16068) , https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=4075"">(NPC #4075) , or https://vanillawowdb.com/?npc=14881"">(NPC #14881) . If the critter you are looking for isn't the one there, kill it and maybe the respawn will be the one you want.
