Heroes of Darrowshire

Bring Davil's Libram and Redpath's Shield to Carlin Redpath.
Davil's Libram
Redpath's Shield

Description

The heroes of Darrowshire hold a place in my heart, and the book you brought me, the Annals of Darrowshire, tells their tales.

It tells of the paladin Davil Lightfire and how the Crusade took his libram to the town hall of Hearthglen.

Its passages also speak of my brother, Captain Redpath. After his betrayal, his shield was cracked and discarded and now lies in the most unlikely of places -- near the barn of Gahrron's Withering.

Gather these relics, <name>. For fate and tragedy surrounds them.

Progress

Do you have the relics, <name>?

Completion

You have the libram and the shield!

Their history is entwined with the history of Darrowshire, and somehow, I know that fate will bring them together again.

Gains

Upon completion of quests, get:
  • 580 experience (34 80 at max. level)

The libram is in the house looking like the Southshore Inn, first floor, inner room, on a table. It glows.

You can avoid fighting into hearthglen, if you have done the quest ""Scarlet Subterfuge"" before. Just talk to ""Myranda the Hag"", get the Scarlet Illusion buff and walk into Harthglen to get the book.

When you loot the book, the Scarlet Illusion will get removed. Since I play priest, I just caster Power Word: Shield, Fear, and run off after looting the book.

58 priest

This is easily soloable if you're ready to die for it.

Mind soothe the gate guards and the paladins on your way to the town hall, run in and die in the far end of the town hall. Run in, rez and mind soothe the pallyes. Loot, fear if you get an unlucky add, run out. You can get outside of leash range before you meet another mob. Mind soothe your way out.

Think this may be possible without death, if you know where the book is. First table in main room of town hall, btw. :)

Soloed this as a lvl 59 Hunter. When you come to the right house. Dismiss pet. Run in and feign death in the far end of the room. Res and put out an icetrap. Call pet and heal up before you start to fight the Lord. Finally take on the two palas at the other end of the room. The book is now yours for the taking. The shield is outside the barn on the right corner from the front, not inside as has been suggested. It takes a little patience and is absolutely possible to solo.

I suggest at least a small group to do this quest and the ones that follow it for anyone below lvl 60. This quest is a chain with a followup. Once you complete ""Heroes of Darrowshire"" and ""Villains of Darrowshire"" you are then able to get a new quest from Carlin Redpath called ""Marauders of Darrowshire"". Finish that and you can get ""Battle of Darrowshire."" Then ""Hidden Treasures"" is last and gives you a choice of these quest rewards:
[Ring of Protection] or [Archlight Talisman] or [Magebane Scion]

Good luck to you and I hope all goes well!
Also if this was helpful to you please rate it up. TY!

This quest is of moderate difficulty to do without dieing. I did this as a level 60 warlock.

The shield is the easiest, but watch out for aggro from the haunts standing around the grain silos (If you did the time rift quest in Andorahl for the bronze dragonflight you will recognize these structures).

The book is in the main (large room) of the building at 42,19 on the table just as you enter the room. The building has a large clock tower. I had to kill 7 mobs to get the book safely. I pulled the two guards in front of the gate to Hearthglen down the road a ways and feared them unto death. All of the mobs can self heal so this makes the quest difficult especially if fighting two at a time. I was able to go left upon entering the town and stayed close to the left wall and bypassed the mob just to the right.

Follow the left path up around up the hill and the building is straight ahead on the left, next to the ballista missile sqaud. There is a 61 elite that walks up and down the road so watch out for him. I pulled the mob standing to the left of the stairs in front of the clocktower building down the road and killed him. The mob standing on the right of the stairs I pulled behind the building where I could fear him so he couldn't heal. This makes killing the mobs very easy. Next, I had a double pull from just inside the entrance, again, around the back of the building so I could fear. They died, but took longer. The little room just before the main room has one mob so I pulled him around back a took care of business. I then had my void attack the two guards in the main room grabbed the book and ran. I didn't use sacrifice since when you get so far away from your void he disappears you leave combat immediately and you get your soul shard back. Right before the entrance to Hearthglen I summoned my horse and fled cackling all the way.

Just soloed with 55 combat rogue.
Some tips to fellow rogues:

- Carefull with the part at the barn, it's a bit nasty coz some undead tend to hide good but they can still aggro you and they won't hesitate to bring company with them. Clear the space behind the barn from any spiders/bears/undead and lure the rest over there.

- One you get the shield, don't be afraid of the ""Haunted"" debuff. It's just an ornament. A ghost may spawn once in a while spamming stuff but luckily it's presence passes out of the attention of any mobs.

Now for the Hearthglen part, it was the first quest where I had to face radar mobs -I call them that way coz they have this thing above their heads. They have almost the double aggro range compared to normal mobs and they see you in stealth like it doesn't exist at all. Even if you turn them around with Distract and get close to them (in order to sap or w/e), they will still aggro you, probably because The Scarlet Crusade has invented underground movement sensors.

However, even though these sentinels have supernatural vision, they're probably deaf or dumb, meaning you can aggro any of the 4 of them guarding the gate without the fear of aggroing another aswell. So, do whatever is necessary to kill at least 2 of them so that you can pass unoticed (Evasion is required at every attempt to kill). Don't worry, the respawn time is way too long.

Once you get inside the fort, things are much easier. Just stay the hell away from other radar mobs and head to the City hall. Sap everything in your way to the main room. If you have cooldowns in your skills, I suggest you wait a bit until they're ready.

Load up some mind numbing and crippling poisons, any agility/stamina/strength scrolls you have on you and prepare for a tough fight. Sap the left paladin, and kill the other VERY carefully, controlling him with stuns and kicks not to heal himself and not to start running around the room like crazy coz he might bring the other paladin in the room next door, ruining that way your hopes for ninjaing the book. Should that happen, Vanish and start over. Continuing our plan, kill the right paladin as fast as you can and trying to save as many abilities you can. Once he's dead, quickly move to the top of the room (if you haven't done it already) and bandage yourself. Kill the other mob saving kidney shot for when he starts running.
These mobs use:
- Heal
- Bubble
- A kind of strike (which damages you)

When the second paladin hits the ground, go stealth -&gt; sap the paladin next door (likewise ""girl next door""), take the libram and gth out of there. Probably, the gate guards wouldn't have been spawned at that time, so you can go out the same way you went in. If, however, you enjoy danger -like me- you can train everything in your way using Evasion+sprint and spice things up!

Stealth detection rofl. Blizzard ftw. I hope they don't put lazers on Arthas.

Quest is no longer elite since patch 2.3 and have a group tag by a mistake I think. Whole Hearthglen's mobs nowdays lost their Elite status and now they are simply lvl 54-57 humanoids. Only thing you may want to know is a 61 lvl elite Paladin patrouiling near city gates and Town Hall and very rare 60 lvl rare mob (Scarlet Judge) spawn in building there your libram exists.

58 Feral Druid -- benefit from my mistakes
Libram: No real problem getting into the town; all the truesight sentries near the gate could be individually pulled and dispatched. The building you want is the other end of town; the town hall which has a large clock on it -- look upward to confirm.

I went behind the building into the mountains. Its a fairly shallow area but was safe for me to unprowl and buff. One easy pally (all were 56-58) beside the entrance. Two in the first room inside, i.e. the entranceway. The problem here is that they run and if one of them makes it out the door the runner will aggro the 61 elite outside. Happened to me twice. Both times I escaped by running into the shallow woods behind the building. The 61 elite is on a very short leash. If you have knocked off the pally outside next to the entranceway you can escape the elite.

I had trouble inside. The small room had one pally but as I was fighting him the judge showed up, then two more pallys. Death one. It's a long run back. DO NOT rez in the room if the judge is there. I waited until he was on the other end of the room, snuck back behind the bookshelves in the far corner, the opposite side from the two pallies and rezzed but he was on me in a flash when I rezzed. Agged him all the way across the room. Death 2. I ran back and rezzed in the back yard. By that time the pallys in the entrance were back but I killed them.

I prowled back into the main room and snuck all the way to the back on the far side of the room from the two pallys and waited until the judge wandered onto my end of the room. That did the trick. Killed the judge without agging the pallys. From that point it was all downhill.

ok so the shield is at 64 57 and it is very difficult to solo at 55 and under, their are 56s and 58s and ive been trying to get to it for bout 10 mins and i keep pulling 3 at a time and end up dyin becuase im a 55 lock and they have stun spells, on top of that they are immune to the infamous fear spel so i have no bubble as a clothie. ALSOOOO the spawn tie is extremly fast,

so i would definitly quest with a partner in this area.

when looting both of the objects I got a debuff called ""Haunted"". Darrowshire poltergeists would occasionally spawn and say things such as ""Captain Redpath! How could you forsake us!"" and ""save him!"" and ""I was devoured by Horgus! I can still feel his teeth upon me!"". They dont cause aggro or fight they just hang out for a while then de-spawn.

As a 54 holy priest,

Mind sooth your way in or ride in as I did, run to back of town to lose aggro. Run into building/room and run to back of room, die (from the multiple guards).
Rez and buff up. You should see 2 pallys by the table.
Bubble yourself and attack 1 of them. The important thing is to concentrate on just 1 until its dead. Dont stop hitting him with damage spells. It should die before the other pally can heal him.
Then rebubble, heal and destroy the other.
When I went to get book, it aggroed another pally in other room, so get yerself healed and mana up before getting book.
Ride out!

Blizzard may have Obsoleted this quest but i did this with my Draenei - level 52 Shaman-Element. As Meeklo says walk inside the guard tower, speak to Calin Redpath for the Annals. Go out from the guard tower to the road turn to your right. Go down the road to the Marris Stead, the shield is inside go past the fireplace, but should see it twinkling at the doorway there. The book is in the fireplace upstairs. Out in the west of Marris Stead are blighted hounds (dogs). There are dogs in the first floor and second floor in pairs. I took them one at a time. This quest counted 18 / 70 completed for Achievement-Eastern Plaguelands Quests. Level up!

To clarify, I just did this quest today and noticed a few discrepencies.

First, unlike what the note says at the top of the page, the quest IS still doable.

Second, the items are in EASTERN plaguelands, not Western. Not sure if this was a change from where it was, but this was the case when I did it. Spent 20 min lookinf in Western given the info here.

Third, both items are in the same town hall style building, 23, 68 Eastern Plaguelands.

I hope this helps!

There are a few people here, posting after Cata, that need to read a bit more carefully. This is the original version of the quest - back when Eastern Plaguelands was a 55-60 zone (which is also why the quest level is listed as 56).

When the Cataclysm hit, the Eastern Plaguelands were changed to a level 40-45 zone, and a lot of the quests were altered, including this one. The quest that you completed is https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=27388"">(Quest #27388), not this one.
