For those curious, I did not receive anything special for using the bonfire in Exodar. There doesn't appear to be any new reward for trying to turn in the flame of Exodar or Silvermoon (since you don't even get one) if you'd done the Thief's Reward quest previously.

I suppose it is obvious if you do a bit of creative searching (there is no listing for the spells Create Flame of Exodar or Silvermoon, nor items Flame of Exodar/Silvermoon), but perhaps not everyone would think of it.

It wasn't that bad on Horde side doing this either. I just did it on my druid.

For both Stormwind and Ironforge it is advised to get to the tram as fast as possible. Dying your way through Ironforge front gates takes a long time. Stormwind was easy when I took the tram.

Stormwind you should navigate via the waterway. You shouldn't have too much trouble, plus you can sneak right up and out of sight of the majority of players who are guarding it. I just went from the tram to the nearest water and swam the whole way popping up and taking that flag.

Ironforge is straight forward, run and die. It took a lot of times dying to do that. Eventually you get there. I would take the tram and save a lot of deaths that way. There is one or two patrolling guards. They seem to both leave at the same time so it is easy to time it.

Darnassus is hard to tell. Sneaking played a big roll in me figuring it out. I snuck on the boat, and then snuck up to the fire. It's outside the town so it should be easy to get to. Hiding beneath the bridge is advisable, but make sure there are no guards walking on it first.

Last thing to be noted is that I got 4950exp from each flame I turned in and then another 4950 exp from getting the crown. A nice 20k exp benefit is a fairly good motivator for most people.

I hope this saves a few people some trouble. Good Luck to you all.

This should be a helluva lot easier to do now that the casting time to open things has been reduced DRAMATICALLY. Before it used to be what? 3 seconds to open things up? Now its like 1 second? (w/e, you get the point) And in those 3 seconds while 'looting' the fire you would be stabbed, set on fire, mauled, trampled, sliced by a sword, shot, charged and then subsequently killed and camped for alliance amusement.

Now it should be as easy as charging in there completely stark naked and yelling at the top of your lungs while making a b-line for certain doom. I love these holidays!

I've done this horde side numerous times and I can add a couple things:
  • Go at an off time. If you can log on at 5AM server time this will be a cake walk.
  • Wait for a distraction. I stand close to the the fire as a ghost or stealthed. When somebody else makes a run for it, strike. That usually gives enough time to loot before anybody notices you.
  • Ironforge -The tram is the easiest way to get in, but during Midsummer and the Lunar Festival it's often camped and you will get slaughtered before you even load in. Not much you can do about it. It is closer to the fire than the front gates so it's still worth it.
  • Darnassus - The fire is in a non-PVP area. You can wait and unflag (since the boats flag you last time I took one). Then just avoid the guards and loot at your leisure. <edit> Or you can avoid being flagged on the boat. Being in the water right up against the stern of the boat will result in you being pulled along with it. No guards in Auberdine, no flagging on the boat. even on a PVP server this would be safer than getting in the boat.

King of the Fire Festival

Go to each capital city (Exodar, Darnassus, Ironforge and Stormwind) and loot the fire. No quest necessary to loot. Item will give you a quest to turn in near Valley of Wisdom in Org.

Ironforge -> Hall of Explorers
Stormwind -> The Park
Darnassus -> Rutheran Village (arrive by boat)
Exodar -> The Crystal Hall

It wasn't that bad.
Here is how I did it.

For Horde: Fly to Zoram's Outpost in Ashenvale and get to Darkshore from there (go north). Take the boat to Darnassus, steal the flame, go back to Darkshore. (I'm not posting coords for the flame, as they have already been posted)
Back in Darkshore? Alright, now take the boat to Azuremyst Isle, get the flame in Exodar, and go back to Darkshore again. You'll be tired of those slow boats by now, but you have to take the boat again, this time to Stormwind. Steal their flame. From Stormwind take the tram to Ironforge. The flame in Ironforge was really easy to get, it's close to the tram!

A short reminder: You don't have to pick up any quests first. You just have to go into your enemies capital cities and steal their flames. Click the flame that appears in your backpack to start a quest. When you turn all 4 of them in, you're done!

Good luck on getting your title. :)

I also made a ticket, hopefully it will be fixed in today's maintenance. I don't mind restarting Kalimdor, completed the other areas, but I really don't want to have to re-steal all the capital flames.

Today when i logged in, blizzard had reseted all the bonfirequests due to people doing these quests last year couldn't recive flowers for the achivements, and the same with the https://vanillawowdb.com/?quest=9365 A Thief's Reward quest, so now i got https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=23323#reward-from The Crown of the Fire Festival x2 :O
So if you did this quest before the bonfire resets, you can recive 2 Crowns, for no use ofc, but anyway :)

Stormwind was the toughest. Thanks for the tip on swimming thru the canal after leaving the tram. I was able to mount and get to a canal easily with no opposition (must admit I used my little Gnome Alli Spy to scout things first, heh heh).

I equipped my Kalu'Ak Fishing Pole so I could breathe underwater, swam to the point nearest the flame (near the Stockades). The wall was very low and you can jump out of the canal easily here. Stay close to the right wall as you approach the flame (don't be on the side near the boats as this will alert an NPC or guard). Do not try to jump out of the water if mounted, that won't work.

I was able to do a quick check on the campers near the flame. Some of them started duelling (out of boredom, no doubt...what kind of loser camps the flames anyway) and I saw my chance. Jumped out of the water, ran a short distance to the flame (stay away from the guards on right!), grabbed the flame and hearthed before anyone even knew I was there.

Minimum required level for the quest- I do not believe it still has a level requirement.

Vaguely, I can recall, that last year it was level 50 (and I have completed the quest last year as well, but at level 70).
However, I have obtained today both the crown and the achievement on my level 44 priest alt.

If I had way too much time and nothing else to do, it would be a good idea to get the crown for the bank character.
I don't have to tell you the ""coolness"" effect of the thief's crown on the bank toon, don't I? ;)

Just finished this year's Midsummer achievements.

Here's how I went about the King of the Fire Festival achievement.

NOTE: On all the capital flames, you will right click them and have a little fire animation put on you. The flame will be put directly into your bag. There is no dialogue that occurs like with the other flames.

TIP: Start this process at an off time. Anytime between 5-7 AM Server should be good.

1. Fly from Org to Zoram'Gar Outpost, then ran to Auberdine.
2. Take the boat from the right branch of the pier to Darnassus. Mount up.
3. The flame is to the right of the path in Rutheran Village on the way to the portal.
(I then had to run through Darn to get the flame at Dolanaar but if you're just doing the capitals, you don't even have to enter Darn. If you do enter Darn, keep an eye out for the few 80 elites that pat.)
4. Run back to the boat. Mount up. Once you hit the pier, guards will stop hitting you. Take the boat back to Auberdine.
5. Take the boat at the end of the pier (will be to your right as you exit the boat to Darnassus) to Exodar. Mount up.
6. Run into Exodar. As soon as you reach the bottom of the ramp youre running down, hop over the side of the stairs directly in front of you and into the Crystal Hall. The flame will be through the first set of buildings and to the right.
7. Run back out the way you came and take the boat back to Auberdine. I was in combat once I set foot into Exodar, so I couldn't mount up and just had to run out. By the time I was out of Exodar and out of combat, I had about half health.
8. Take the last boat at the pier (will be on your right as you exit the boat from Exodar) to Stormwind. It looks like a human ship instead of all purply so you'll know you've got the right one. Mount up.
9. Arriving at Stormwind Harbor, run up the series of ramps to the top level and run right into the city. The couple of guards I aggro'd ran off once I ran into the actual city. Harbor guards are level 65, while city guards are level 75.
10. Jump into the canal. As a warlock, I have underwater breathing so I could swim at the bottom the whole time. If you don't have access to a way to have underwater breathing, just come up for air when you need to. Take the right fork of the canal when you reach it and come up at the boat at the end. Mount up. Run across the bridge to your right, turn left, and take the flame just outside of Stockades. (During this step, I did not ever enter combat.)
11. Jump back into the canals. Swim past Cathedral Square (it's light brown on your minimap) and turn left into canal between Cathedral Square and the Dwarven District. (dark brown on your minimap) Jump out at the boat, mount up, and turn right. Cross the bridge on your right, then enter the Dwarven District on your left. Turn left and run to the back where the Deeprun Tram is.
12. Enter the tram and ride to Ironforge. Mount up.
13. Enter Ironforge from the tram and turn right, staying close to the right wall. You don't want to aggro the gnomes in the center of the room. Run into the Hall of Explorers. The flame will be in the center of the hall.
14. Run back to the tram. By this time, I had a lot of guards hitting me. (I don't know if it's because I dropped an AoE Fear in the Hall or if I got too close to the gnomes, but the gnome king, a level ? elite, aggro'd and killed me right by the entrance of the tram. If this happens to you, rez as close to the tram entrance as possible.)
15. Hearth inside the tram. In your bag, you should have four flames from the cities. Right click each to start their quests and turn them into a Festival Talespinner in Org or UC. After you turn them all in, you'll have a quest from the Talespinner that will give you the achievement.

And yes, you'll want to turn them all in at once.

Hope this helps! Happy Fire Festival!

Just did this on my hpally. It's much easier with flying.

There is no boat to the Nelf place that I could find, but you don't die from fatigue flying straight. I don't even remember Darnassus, I mounted, flew in, mounted again and flew out.

The one in Exodar is in the first cubby to your right and you can use the mines on the left-side of that room to shake the guards and mount up again.

Stormwind in is in the mage quarter, you can fly in, grab it, jump into the canal to shake the guards.

Best I could come up with in Ironforge was to fly in, grab it and dash for the lava in the middle. Some swimming should shake the guards, but the damage from the lava (about 600 a tick on int plate at 85) makes mounting up hard. Maybe one of the cubbies would shake threat too?

Ive now done this for two classes, so here is my view on the difficulty from perspective of:

Horde Lv85 Protection Paladin (dungeon blues with a few purples)
Horde Lv85 Elemental Shaman (newbie 85, mostly green quest gear)

Darnassus
Getting there: With Master Riding you can fly directly across the sea from Auberdine.
Paladin: Fly down and click, no guards nearby, NPCs dont attack, generally few players here (easy)
Shaman: Same as Paladin

Exodar
Getting there: I tried flying directly across from Teldrassil, but kept running in to an invisible wall or got too much fatigue. Instead took the Alliance boat from Ruttheran Village. If you land on the back of the boat near the captain the guards patrolling the boat wont bother you.

When you reach Azuremyst isle you will find that flying mounts dont work, so its ground mounts only here.

There are two entrances to the city Exodar:
The entrance nearer the boat is unguarded but you enter the city a long way from the flame.
The second entrance is guarded by a couple of lv85 (non-elite). I found that if you just ride past and ignore them about half way down the tunnel you loose agro, so you can ignore the fact that it is guarded as it shouldnt cause you much concern.

Paladin: I took the guarded entrance and rode straight down to the fire. I had 2 or 3 guards chasing me. I bubbled and clicked the fire and then ran back up the ramp on foot. Lost agro about half way up the tunnel again and was able to remount (or you could hearthstone out).

Shaman: Also took the guarded entrance, but I found it much harder. I think my shield counted as an attack and so soon I had a lot of guards after me. I managed to click the flame even under attack, but died soon after trying to run out. I reincarnated, healed up and made a run for it but got slowed by guards and killed again. Resed at the spirit healer and hearthstoned
Thoughts: Attacking or using any ability which affects the guards seems to make things much worse (more guards come). If you have any kind of on-hit effect it will probably make it easier if you just turn it off.

Stormwind
Getting there: You can fly directly over the fire (watch out for the flying patrols) and wait for your moment to go down. Stormwind is busy so you might have to wait a while.

Paladin: I got attacked by a guard immediately I hit the ground (didnt see where he came from) so had to bubble and click. I then ran north, jumped in the canal and swam to the west a bit and guard lost agro. I was then able to mount and fly off.

Shaman: Landed and got attacked by the festival NPCs Tried to kill them and this brought many guards Managed to click the fire (took a few tries) and then ran north for the canal.
Made it in with low life remaining, but unlike with my Paly two guards followed me in to the canal and I was forced to kill them (lv85 non-elite). Healed up, mounted and flew off.

Ironforge
Getting there: You can go via the tramway in Stormwind or fly in to Ironforge via the tunnels the Alliance flightpath uses.

Paladin: I choose to go via the tramway from Stormwind. On reaching Ironforge you can use flying mounts. Easy I thought, but I had forgotten the flying patrols and one knocked me off mount taking about half my health and dropping me in some guards. A total mess up, but I just ignored the guards and ran to the fire, bubbled, clicked then ran back to the tram and heartstoned.

Shaman: Flew in to the Ironforge via the flightpath tunnels. Got all the way to the fire without any agro (still flying). Landed and again had trouble as I was immediatly attacked by guards and NPCs Managed to click the flame and then ran for the tram. Once inside, I hearthstoned out.
Thoughts: Cant explain why Shaman and Paladin seem to have differing experiences with the amount of Guards/NPCs attacking them, but they did...
Of the two routes, flying in via the flightpath tunnels was easiest.

NB: Edits were to add Shaman experiences (Originally only contained Paladin)

For Horde:

I'm seeing that a lot of people are having trouble with the Ironforge flame; here's an easy way to do it WITHOUT resorting to the tram:

If you're familiar with the Alliance flight path leading into Ironforge, you'll notice that there are several large openings/tunnels on TOP of the main entrance to the city. Use these aerial tunnels to scout out the flying patrols (they're very easy to spot from here), and you just have to make a beeline to the Hall of Explorers (which is where the flame is). You can very easily avoid the guards and land, pick up the flame, mount back up, and be on your merry way!

Alot of people are talking about not having access to 3 of the 4 quests to turn in the flame. You need to right click the flame icons of each city in your bags to access their respective quests. On the Exodar flame it has the exclamation point that suggests that this item starts a quest, but on the others it does not. So right click on the other flames as you would for the Exodar. Cheers!

Horde's Guide to Getting ""A Thief's Reward"": Cataclysm/MoP Edition

Flying mounts make getting into opposing faction's cities just that much easier. Just watch out for those flying guards, those bastards'll knock you off your mount. As such, this guide assumes that you have a flying mount, and can use it wherever it can be used. This guide, however, does not assume you'll live through each attempt, and will offer strategies for you to get back on your feet should you die.

Darnassus [63, 46]: Fly from Darkshore up the side of Tedrassil towards Darnassus, then simply land next to the fire, and it's all yours. Don't forget the fire near Dolanaar while you're here. If you're level 90 and can fly, you can do the whole thing without dying.

Exodar [41,25]: Fly from Darkshore to Rutheran Village, then get on the boat on the western dock. Get off, head into the city via the nearby entrance, jump off before you can get to bottom of that ramp and head for the northern passage, which will take you straight to the room with the fire. Depending on your level and gear, you will have to shake off between 2-4 guards, or you will die by their hand. If you do die, just rez as close as possible to the fire, and you'll get it easily. Once you have it, hearth out, or get on your ground mount and as quickly as possible leave the way you came in, when you arrive back outside you'll have shaken off the guards. Don't forget to get the other fires on these islands while you're here.

Ironforge [64, 22]: The problem here is that you have a limited ceiling and little space to hide from flying guards. Go through the main entrance and fly up the way the taxi mounts go. When you get to the other end make sure there's no flying guards before crossing the The Commons to one of the openings above either side of the bank. Again, check for flying guards before coming out. Go straight across the Great Forge and the fire will be right in front of you. There is an empty house in the southwest corner of this chamber [64, 35], so if you think you're gonna die, die as close to it as possible and rez inside, where you won't be harassed by guards and all but the smartest players. There is also an upstairs balcony where you can mount up in peace. From there, hearth out, or leave the same way you came in.

Stormwind [50,71]: Fly from north from Grom'Gol, and when you get to the city, fly high to avoid guards. The fire is right next to The Stocks. If you die before you get the fire rez behind the fire so you can get it without being spotted. When you're done, run into The Stocks where you can hearth out in peace. It is really hard to mount up and leave from there, but if you have to, it's advisable to jump into the canals, then mount up, fly straight up as high as possible (while keeping your eyes peeled for flying guards while doing so), then leave undisturbed. Depending on your sever, it may be deserted, or (like it was for me) it may be crawling with players, who have laid traps, spamming AoE's etc etc. If it's the latter, consider going during offpeak hours. It is Stormwind, after all.

Good luck all.

This is a pretty easy achievement to do as a hunter as long as you have a flying mount. (I did it at 85)

For stormwind I simply flew up extremely high so not attract the guards on gryphons until I saw the flame. I flew down, grabbed the flame and let myself die. It also helps to have your pet out to take aggro so taking the flame doesn't get interrupted.

Darnassus was probably the easiest. I took a flight path to Whisperwind grove in Felwood then flew through Darkshore and across the ocean until I got to Teldrassil. You should be able to get there before fatigue kills you on a regular flying mount. Once there I flew really high or Darnassus until I saw the flame, then dropped down and grabbed. I didn't get attacked by anything so I just got back on my flying mount.

While still in Teldrassil, go back to the boats and take the west boat dock to get to the Exodar (As 85, I didn't get attacked by the guards on the boat). The only major disadvantage to this area is you can't fly. I simply rode my ground mount until I got to the front entrance. Then I simply camouflaged passed the peacekeepers and into the first main hall until I got to the first 4 guards. I set out three traps near where they were then pulled and killed. After that I went back into camo and took a right and followed my map until I got to the flame. I stayed as far away from peacekeepers as possible and didn't get attacked again. Then I got the flame and hearthed home.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/81179662@N07/7439835412/in/photostream/lightbox/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/81179662@N07/7439835412/in/photostream/lightbox/ (Map to flame)

Ironforge was probably the hardest but if you have a flying mount you can go through and not get killed until maybe at the flame. Fly in the front entrance and the get as high in the air as possible. Keep flying straight and you will see these holes in the wall at the top that get you farther in the building without anyone seeing you. There are two sets of them and just go through until you get to the flame. Once I got to the Hall of Explorers I got targeted by a flying guard. I dropped down to the flame and instantly got attacked but as soon as my pet came out he took all the aggro. I was able to take the flame and hearth home without dying once.

This achievment is also probably the easiest early in the morning when most servers are dead. I got all the flames between 7-10 am and the only place I saw players was stormwind. The other areas I only had to worry about guards.

  • Use the Twilight Highlands portal then go to Stormwind
  • Once you have ember from Stormwind, go to the Dwarven District and take the Deeprun Tram (go ahead and take the tram, there are literally no guards so you'll be fine)
  • Once you've successfully zoned out of the tram area and into Ironforge, immediately mount up on your flying mount and fly to the right, out of Tinkertown and should be immediately in front of you :)
Hope this helps!

Just to clarify, this quest becomes available after stealing the flames of 4 cities and turning in their individual quests to the Talespinner. Simply turn in your flames, accept the quest and claim your crown :)

I've tried to finish this on a level 75 character but i keep dying for the Stormwind Flame. The lvl 90 guards always show up and 1 shot me. The other players aren't the problem, but it's the npcs that call the guards. Anyone know a trick to get this?

Edit: I just finished it. If you have a level 90, then use it to kill Cooking Trainer Robby Flay and the other NPCs around that might call guards. Bario Matelli didn't call guards and he is not able to be attacked, so ignore him. Then log into your low level character to get it. Good luck.
