Don't forget once you looted the flame, ""Flame of stormwind"" will accuatly be in your bag, instead of just starting a quest like all other small town's flame does.

Tried to do this with about five lvl 70s and me as a lvl 60 during peak hours. Bad choice. It was fun in a morbid way - if you don't mind running across Elwyn Forest every time you die - but it didn't get us any closer to getting the flame, and we just gave up because people were camping at our corpses.

Lessons learned? If you want to get the Stormwind Flame (or two of the other three flames that aren't as easy to get as Darnassus), then 1) don't go in a group or attack anything - you'll just attract attention - and 2) go late at night when everyone's asleep and pretty much all that stands between you and the bonfire are some NPCs. You may have to do a little body hopping and of course a PvP player or two may try to genk you, but after you first run back from the graveyard, they'll have had to wait around bored as hell for five or six minutes and just give up. I was able to get the flame after only one death.

As for the other cities, Darnassus is easy if you swim up to the shore from the right direction, stealthed or unstealthed - you can make a clean getaway. Ironforge and Exodar are also difficult, but the above advice is the same for them. Thankfully, neither are as quite as popular as Stormwind, so even during peak server times, it's possible to run in with less trouble - possible but not probable.

If you run into overwhelming odds, ducking into the Stockade can save you a hike back. Of course, they may still be waiting there when you come back out...

Anyone know a good place for a warlock to open a summoning portal near the flame?

A tip for the stealthy kind. This is coming in from the Tram from IF and a Rogue

As soon as you get out of the tram and you have your stealth on, hit Sprint and head to the left of the entrance until you hit the water. Jump in the water (after making sure you are still unseen) and dive deep until you hit the floor.

Then swim all the way over to the stockades while stealthed, while it is slower it is also very risk-free as I am sure not a whole lot of people are a) in the water at SW and b) actively looking for sneaks.

By the time you get to the flame, your sprint should be free to use again, jump out and get close enough and pop Sprint again. Get the flame, run to the water, dive down low and hearth outta there.

I did this and was able to get the flame easily even though there was about...20-ish allies waiting around.

I followed some of the suggestions, and it was a piece of cake.

I came in from the docks, using a potion of water walking to get to the docks quicker.

Equipped the fishing pole that gives underwater breathing, ran up the stairs, jumped in canal, dived to the bottom, and swam to where you need to surface. I then used another potion of water walking, summoned my mount, rose to the surface, ran to the fire, and got the item. There were a bunch of people there, and for some reason, I had enough time to hearth.

I didn't do anything too creative here, hopped off the boat after nabbing Exodar and just ran in and took it. Died once after making a wrong turn but once I knew where I was going, I ran right in then dived in the canal, lost the two players that were chasing me, and hearthed.

For my fellow Rogues, there is a rooftop right next to the bonfire. It's close enough that you can access the bonfire on top of it. Fly on to a nearby roof (preferably out of sight), and then stealth, then make your way down to that low-hanging roof. Grab the flame, then stealth (or Vanish if someone is lucky enough to see you in time) and Sprint your way to the Stockades.

For those who are not Rogues, it also isn't that difficult to ge tthe flame.

Fly over Stormwind and find the flame in the Magic area. Stay up high enough so you can make sure the flame is safe. Then fly down from the NORTH. You shouldn't argo anyone. Then, fly out. But beware when you are flying out, you still may argo the flying guards. If you do (like I did) simply res from the Graveyard.

Just tried to steal Thunder Bluff's flame on my Alliance druid and was unable to get anything. Also tried on my Alliance mage, still unable to get anything. My druid did this last year no problem, but my mage has never had done this quest, so I'm not sure if it's bugged or what. Anyone else having a problem with the opposing faction's capital city flames?

For hunters, use https://vanillawowdb.com/?item=42898"">(Item #42898) to give you stealth while moving in Camouflage. I walked right through Stormwind, no problem. :)

DONE! Nihahahaha!
I hitched a ride from Azuremyst to Stormwind, where I had to land, get attacked by the level 53 Sentinels there, who stopped when I flew up just a bit, touching the cabin's roof/net above.

She let me arrive safely at Stormwind Harbour, where at once I went up, up up till I found the place of the fire you all so kindly marked on the map here.

Got killed because I took too long repeating the same stupid action on the fire. I had already had it, and wouldn't have needed to die.

I still hadn't understood until I ran all the way across Elwyn, back into Stormwind, touched the fire again, I took the canal drive, was chased by another player into the water.

This time, I had put my pet's aggro on (Voidlord), and the mobs were thrown away by Soulshatter, in any case, when the Alliance player caught me, I wondered if I was going to die for nothing, checked bags- bingo.

Long story short, nosedive into the place making sure the minimum number of guards are onto you, with your distractions ready for the happy crowd, touch the green flame till the yellow bar that appears fills up quickly, and jump in the water to sneak out, or die with a grin.

Don't know how stealth works with/against flying, so you know yourselves best.

Only thing maybe that could be annoying is if anyone was smart enough to wait at the grave in Elwynn Forest, which the player wasn't. Someone cheered for him.

Le lulz. I wish he could have seen my grin from beyond the grave.

Onward! To Ironforge!

MUHAHAHAHAHA!
